  • Well built works great.
Purchased three months ago, made ribs, chicken, and steak. Food had been a big hit with the family. First time grill would only heat to 550. Since then 600 as advertised no problem. Extremely well built and designed. They recommend you use their pellets which burn hotter and are smaller. I am assuming so auger doesn’t clog. App is a little kwirky, but I still think it is a great feature. Seems to trip my gfci breaker until warm. Maybe better to run this on non gfci outlet. Overall extremely pleased. ... show more

  • Very disappointed
Although I did a lot of research about the broil king regal 500 the bottom line is that it performed poorly and I had to return it and replace with a taeger ironwood 885. As I have now owned both of them I can compare the functionality and the performance of both. The regal 500 is built like a tank, very solid and easy to assemble. The issues started right a way when it would not fire up, I was able to resolve this by unscrewing the controller panel and finding a loose connection to the fan which I fixed. Once the grill fired up it would not reach a temperature of 225. The lowest it would go was ~350. I called up customer service who told me the fan was most likely bad and they would ship me a new one within 5-7 days. They explained that it seems as if the fan is not obeying commands from the controller. When looking over a video of how to replace the fan ( which was on the way) I noticed that my fan was wired differently than BK’s video. I sent customer service an email but it has been over 2 weeks and no response. I joined a broil king group and found out that this problem does happen but should only effect the grill at 250 and below, so I set the grill to 256 and smoked a brisket, unfortunately, after 5-6 hours of holding at ~265 the grill climbed up to ~325 and would not come down. The end result was serving a dried out brisket to my guests. About 10 days after my initial call with customer support at broil king I called up to see why the fan did not arrive. I was now told that the fan is on back order and they have no idea when it will arrive and I should return the grill which I did. The other issues I ran into while running the grill 1. The 2 probes showed ~25 degree difference when placed at the same place. 2. The temperature in the grill measured by a calibrated thermometer is 25-30 degrees off between sides, and is 30-50 degrees off from what the controller says. So the controllers display can not be trusted. 3. Poor design of controller and app. If you hit the off switch by mistake it goes into shutdown and the process can not be stopped. 4 the target temperature can only be set after the grill reaches 360 even if it is lower which causes a huge delay (customer service said that this is the way it works ) 5 it takes close to a full hour to teach its target temperature. The ironwood 855 may be built less solidly but it performs exactly as it should right a way. I now understand that most of the reviews I read comparing the 2 before making my decision were reviews where the reviewers seem to be compensated by broil king. Bottom line from my experience - do not buy this grill. If you do however want it, do yourself a favor and join the broil king user group on Facebook and read what problems customers are running into. Having gone through all this I am so glad I purchased the grill from Amazon as they were incredible when it came to returning it, they picked it up fully assembled and refunded the purchase (which I used to get the ironwood) Thanks Amazon ... show more

  • Problems of temp regulation
Broil King has been excellent in trying to solve my problem…not being able to get temps lower than 320. They have replaced the controller and no joy there. They are sending out a new thermocouple and hopefully that will fix it. I have cooked using higher temperatures and like the results, so I am really hoping the fix works. ... show more

  • Solid pellet grill, easy to use and maintain, great food results
Extremely solid build quality and spot on temperature control. The ash clean out system which is a variation from what you get on a Camp Chef makes maintenance and clean up easy. Note, 2 of the parts did have slight imperfections but Broil King has made good on the warranty and is shipping out replacements. So far we have cooked brisket, chicken wings, burgers and ribs and everything has been fantastic. Only non 5 star rating was for ease of assembly because this thing is heavy! 275 lbs but the weight is also a "sign of reliability". ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY A SINGLE THING FROM BROIL KING - Buy a Traeger!
Purchased this grill for over $1300 (after shipping). Worked fine for 8 months, then died. The Manufacturer does not replace grills if they are in the warranty period, they will only send you parts to fix your issue. After 4 months of going back and forth with them, and receiving at least 6 different parts, the grill still does not work. These aren't little issues. I've literally taken this huge grill apart half a dozen times to replace things like motors and heating elements. Way above any normal operator maintenance, and the parts come without any directions what-so-ever. It's essentially like buying a brand new car, that breaks down 8 mos later then, instead of fixing it themselves, the dealer sends you a couple door, a crank shaft, and transmission for you to install yourself...without the directions. Finally, I had enough. The grill has been assembled and disassembled so many times it is starting to fail structurally. When I told the manufacturer I was done trying their solutions and either wanted a new grill or a refund, they said "we don't do that, you'll have to talk to the store you bought it from". Save yourself the trouble and buy a Traeger. This has been the worst purchase experience I have ever had. ... show more

  • Malfunction after 4 uses
Used it 4 times and just stopped working!! Once it’s powered on, It shuts off after 2 seconds. Gonna check in with their support team on Monday to see if I can get the issue resolved, but for now it gets one star!! Very disappointed! Dec 30th… Amazon was kind enough to pick up the grill and provide a refund due to the nightmare customer service by Broil King. 4 separate calls with BK and all they did was try and blame my electrical. The grill never lost power as indicated by the blue power light. However, the motor continued to shut off once it was turned on. Customer service is everything. Amazon gets 5 STARS, while Broil King FAILED!!! ... show more

  • Built like a tank some minor issue but I love it
Love the pellet smoker. Built like a tank and holds heat well. Temperature control is very good and accurate. Cons the delivery was terrible the box came damages and torn but all the items were there . Con does not like the larger pellets like pit boss or bear mountain. • Great smoker... while it worked
Beautiful looking smoker. Customer service is decent. The one month it worked was great but it's been 8 months, about 15 phone calls and 3 or 4 warranty shipment and is still not running. But hey at least their starting to charge me shipping for these warranty parts.
