  • Maximum Thatch Removal: For larger mowers and lawns, a 48" working width and 2 rows of 12 independently flexing spring steel tines comb through a lawn, lifting thatch up and out of the lawn where it can be mowed or mulched to promote a healthier root system.

  • Transport Wheels: 8" never-flat transport wheels are located behind and in-line with the tray to minimize footprint width and facilitate leveling.
  • Spring Steel Tines: 24 long-lasting, triple-coil strength 3/16 diameter spring steel tines stay flexible and guarantee performance.

Description

Thatch is a layer of built-up organic material (grass clippings and dead roots) between the top growth of grass and the root system. Too much thatch can create a barrier that keeps moisture and air from reaching the roots, stunting your lawn's health. A tine dethatcher uproots dead grass and large clippings, as well as dislodges compact dirt for better planting. Use the Brinly 48-inch tow-behind dethatcher in the spring and fall to help gently remove the thatch that can harm your grass. Once thatch is pulled to the surface, it can be easily mulched or collected. The ideal tractor attachment for large yards, the working width extracts thatch in 48-inch-wide swaths. The unique inline transport wheels easily cross paved areas, minimize footprint width, and facilitate leveling. While raking your yard can be back-breaking and time-consuming work, using the Brinly Pull-Behind Dethatcher cuts job time and lets you get back to your weekend. Indiana-based Brinly-Hardy company has been manufacturing quality lawn and garden attachments since 1839. Taking the work out of DIY yard maintenance only gets more effortless with each Brinly product in our broad line of durable attachments. The best yards require the best tools-- get a yard like the pros with Brinly!

  • Glad I bought this!! Easy to assemble and use
Color: Matte Black Pattern Name: Dethatcher
It was pretty easy to put together and I pulled it with my cub cadet ZTR 50. From just doing a small part of my yard (see pic with pink area circled) I picked up a ton of dead grass (See pick of sweeper hopper). I did make several passes going different directions and going slow, but definitely worth the cost of the dethatcher and new sweeper than paying $1200 to a pro to power rake my acreage once a year! I am a single woman fyi, so if I can do it, anyone can lol 😁 ... show more

Color: Matte Black Pattern Name: Dethatcher
Very good product. Took two old people a few hrs to put togethere. Yes two people needed. Had some assemble quirks. I used it as soon as done, with one brick on top. WoW, great job. Lawn is ?70 yro. Never thatched, has moss, seldom given attention. I have three lawns on this property--all good sized. This product will save you hrs of manual. If your on the fence BUY IT! ... show more

  • Decent tow behind dethatcher
Color: Black Pattern Name: Dethatcher
I give this an overall 4 out of 5 stars. I’d give it a 5 if it had one additional feature, and that is a bar to raise the tines when I am towing it to the section of grass that I want to dethatch. Without that feature, I had to hand tow it to the lawn section. That’s actually relatively easy to do, just not as convenient. The actual dethatching was excellent. I towed the dethatcher over the lawn 3 times using 3 different patterns - horizontal, vertical, and concentric rings. You can get as much or as little thatch out as you like by towing it around more or fewer times. I like a pull dethatcher better than a power dethatcher because it is much less destructive to an established lawn. Note that I did *not* use weights to make the tines dig deeper. It worked just right using only the weight of the dethatcher itself. However, there is a critical step in the assembly to make it work well, and that is the last step. You have to set the dethatcher on a flat surface (like a garage floor) with the tines (but not the wheels) resting on half inch plywood (or other half inch material). You then adjust the wheels to touch the flat surface (not the plywood). If you do this, the tines will be at the correct depth for dethatching a smooth lawn. I towed with a John Deere lawn tractor. The hitch height of your tow vehicle matters I think. The tow bar of the dethatcher needs to be fairly level when you hitch it to your machine. It it is angled high (or low), then the tines may not dig deeply enough (or too deep). The assembly instructions could be better, but if you pay close attention, it should come out fine. ... show more

  • Performs As Advertized
Color: Matte Black Pattern Name: Dethatcher
The product will perform great on pure thatch, but when trying to remove a heavy lay of creeping charlie other measures and conditions must exist. First my yard should had been treated with a post-emergent herbicide and I couldn't do it this summer because of an injury. Tried a backup strategy this fall with the Brinly DT to remove as much creeping charlie as possible. Yard was soaked with irrigation and two days of heavy rain so the extensive creeping connections to the soil could be overcome as much as possible. It took a myriad of passes of 1.25 acres to remove approximately 70% of the weed. Not perfect results but with loading an 80lb bag of drainage rock on the Brinly DT, and pulling it with my zero turn for 8 hours through muck and mire bodes well for the robust nature of the dethatcher. A very tough product! ... show more

  • Did much better that I thought it would
Color: Black Pattern Name: Dethatcher
Very easy to assemble. You will have to cut off one bolt to bolt on the Tow Bars on the Right Side Front. Other than that, no issues at all. I pulled it behind my Textron Stampede and ran my back pasture first with a 50# bad of Play Sand strapped on. There is no crab grass on that pasture and last year it did not grow very well at all. The photo on the left is why. All that came from an approx.. 10 by 15 area. My Front Pasture due to an irrigation issue on my neighbors ranch had alot of crab grass grow in it late in the summer, The photo on the right is from that front pasture. It removed almost all of the long arms of the crab grass and left very nice water rows. It worked so well on my back pasture it would take me 3 or 4 straight days to clean by hand so I ordered a lawn sweeper to speed things up. I wont put my Steers on it until it greens up a bit. All in all I would recommend this to anyone that does not want to buy a full blown harrier drag. My neighbors thought it was cute and a waste of money..... He's using it to do his back pasture today after seeing how well is did. On a straight lawn with pop-ups I would not use the weight. I did the front lawn behind my zero turn and it cost me 4 sprinklers so I speak of what I learned. This is a SOLID PRODUCT and worth the mild amount of money as compared to larger hard to handle and storage options. ... show more

  • Works well but the tines can't be raised.
Color: Matte Black Pattern Name: Dethatcher
As the title states this works as well as expected. The major problem is the tines can't be raised up like the smaller and cheaper version does. We have a large lot 2 1/2 acres. To take this from the garage I have to wheel it upside down to where I want to dethatch my grass. This is very difficult to do. Otherwise it works as advertised and doesn't need additional weight added. ... show more
