The engine was shipped fast delivered promptly and performs very well. That being said I bought the engine because I wanted the same reliable engine the edger I started with had. The edger was a top of the line model and to put a lower end engine on it just didn't make since. It does surprise me that you can go out a buy a mower or other powered yard tool with an engine cheaper than a replacement engine makes to many items throw away models. ... show more

Bolt holes and pulley all lined up as I had hoped. The only issue I had was the crank housing was larger than the previous motor which required me to add several washers to raise the engine to compensate for the needed clearance.

Replaced an original Briggs and Stratton 3HP motor on a McLane mower. Mounting holes in the eact same location, 30 years later. Used original pulley, and besides getting a longer throttle cable, it was a super quick replacement. Very pleased with the entire process.

    • Great Product. Starts on first pull, runs smooth, good gearing.
I purchased this to replace my existing B&S engine on my McLane front throw reel mower. This model was a perfect fit and starts just as good as the one that was on the McLane when I purchased it. One pull is all it takes to start and it also seems like B&S changed the gearing because even at max RPM, I'm not running after the mower anymore. The only reason my original B&S motor quit working was due to operator error. I did not check the oil properly when I first bought my mower and inadvertently ran the motor without any oil in it. The mower ran for about eight minutes before seizing up due to heat. I realized my error and let the motor cool off and then properly filled it with oil. That motor ran for three years after that before it finally seized up. Point being, for what I had done to the original motor, I expected it to be destroyed but it fact ran perfectly for three years after that. I won't make the same mistake again with my new motor and probably will never have to replace it again now. ... show more

    • Exact replacement on a McClane reel mower
4 bolts on the old deckplate and it fits right on. If you just buy a new pulley you don't have to remove the old one. I reused my old sheave. I suggest getting a new v belt while its off. If you have a newer McClane you can use a more powerful engine as it takes a larger diameter pulley. My dad told me 40 years ago that this size engine will be just fine and he was right. Never needed more than half throttle. The new Briggs design is much better. Having the piston at that angle improves the splash lubrication and the compression release makes starting easy. Started on the second pull the very first time and has started on the first pull ever since. ... show more
