Description

The easy-to-read dial on the Rhinowares Milk Thermometer allows for quick and accurate measure of textured milk and other beverages. The specially designed stainless steel clip allow the thermometer to sit perfectly in any milk pitcher. Designed with positive lock, quick-release action, the thermometer stem can be adjusted to the desired height. When the clip is removed, the thermometer can also be used for general purpose cooking needs. Height of thermometer is 7" (18cm). Effective temperature range is 0 to 220F or -18 to 104C. How to use: Insert the stem of the thermometer through both holes in the clip. Pressing the clip together will allow for easier positioning along the thermometer stem. Push the clip down onto the side of the pitcher and position it until the stem tip is sitting just above the bottom of the pitcher.

I can’t rate this product too poorly because, for all intents and purposes, it does what it’s supposed to do. But I definitely have some gripes with it. As far as proper function goes, the biggest issue would definitely be the lag time; I have to stop steaming around 10°F early because it takes a while to catch up. Of course this is something that you will find on almost all thermometers, but this one’s lag is especially long compared to others I have worked with. My next couple problems don’t directly effect how well the product works as a thermometer, but they are annoying quirks nonetheless. Whenever you turn it on it defaults to Celsius, so you have to switch to Fahrenheit every time you turn it on (if that’s your preferred unit of measurement. And yes, I know I should switch over to C°, I have gone metric with all other things in my life so it seems the most logical next step). It’s a minor thing, but it gets annoying if you are turning it on many times a day. Either that or you could leave it on, which leads me to my next issue: the device doesn’t have an auto off function. I appreciate when things have a longer auto off timer, but to not have one at all is just asking to drain your batteries. The last issue has to do with the temp alarm. The device will allow you to set your desired temp and it will beep when it is reached. It’s a good feature for a barista who is steaming something for a child, or even one who is just starting out and is trying to get used to steaming to the proper temp. The only problem is, the device will flash the last temp read over your setting but won’t continue to read the current temp. For example, if you have it set to 140°F and it goes from 138° to 141°, it will flash 141° until you push the up or down button, and then it will give the current reading. This combined with the lag time means that if you stop steaming right when your alarm goes off, you will likely be 10ish degrees over your goal, but you won’t know until you push one of the buttons for it to go back to giving the current reading. I originally purchased Brewista version but it seemed inaccurate, the clip difficult to move and the dial could be easier to read. This one rocks! The larger dial with clear green/red zones make it easy to get consistent microform and the clip easily adjusts to different pitchers.

Great thermometer, rusty clip! Out of all the milk thermometers I have used this is the only one that the clip rusts after the first use. It also left a permanent rust stain in one of my milk pitchers! I reached out to Rhino and they tried to pass me off back to Amazon but I told them that was not good customer service and that I would probably get another clip that rusts. They contacted me back and said they would send me another one in the mail so that is why they get another star instead of one but this time I put the clip in water overnight along with a clip from a different $5 thermometer and the cheaper clip did not rust but the more expensive Rhino clip rusted again! Whatever metal they are using for the clip is not right for liquid environments and they need to fix this or pull this item off the shelves until they do! Until then I will use their thermometer with a different clip. ... show more

then seal of it not good the water hit the button it very hard to push on it to turn on/off and the down arrow to lower the temp to set it same problem the need to put a seal in it to be water proof
