  • Great affordable EVSE
I needed a charger to leave at my parents house since I drive a Chevy bolt and a Tesla and they don't have any kind of EV charging. I installed a NEMA 14-50 outlet (Hubbell brand, not the cheap Home Depot junk) and it works awesome with this EVSE on both my 2022 Chevy Bolt EUV and my 2021 Tesla Model Y (with an adapter). I really like the fact that it has a screen that tells you the amps, volts, state of charge, etc. Keep in mind it only charges at 32 amps, but that should be plenty fast for most people. It also has a great manual which explains what everything on the screen means and what all the lights mean. I've been using this for a little over a year and it's still running like a champ. If you are looking for an affordable and safe EVSE, I would definitely suggest this one ... show more

  • Don't need more than this. (Except maybe 24A)
I've been using this charger for about two months now. I have never owned a different one, but in my opinion, this is an excellent choice of a L2 charger, especially considering the many options to spend much, much more money for similar chargers, or chargers with many more features most of us don't need. The charger is missing the cheap plastic feel that one fears when purchasing such a thing. Feels very sturdy to the hands. The display gives excellent status information but not more than most people can understand. Says what it needs to. Cord length is excellent. It reaches the charge port on the car no matter what orientation it is in the driveway (forward, backward or either side). There is an attached cap for the car plug to keep spiders out. Engages to the car cleanly, removes simply. ONE criticism, it seems very odd that for a charger with this level of current adjustability (more than nearly any other charger) it does NOT have a 24A setting. It jumps from 16A to 32A. 16A is not enough to warm up the car in the morning without draining the battery, but 32A charges so fast it generates heat on the 40A circuit (which = waste). A 30A circuit on a home is far more common than a 40A, so it seems a 24A charging level would be ideal. But that is missing from this device. A small criticism on an otherwise terrific unit. ... show more

  • Crapped out after just over two years
I bought this EV charger just over two years ago and have used it to charge my Kia EV6 since then. I do not drive very much -- only about 11K miles in the last 2+ years. So it wasn't like I used this charger all the time. In addition, I also only charged my car to 80% (per dealer recommendations). Then, just a few months after the two year warranty, the charger completely failed. No way to reset it. And the customer service was terrible. They told me to unplug and replug it again (literally the first thing I tried). I will not be buying this brand of charger again. So frustrating that it failed just a month or two after the warranty expired. ... show more

  • Makes the most of our PHEV Chrysler Pacifica
This charging station maximizes the efficiency of our Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid. A salesperson at the dealership recommended the BougeRV charger based on feedback from prior customers. My research indicated good features and quality for the price. We wanted something we could unplug and take with us if we move, so not a hardwired charging station. The Pacifica has a 16Kw battery and will accept a charge up to 6.6Kwh, so I selected the 32A version of the charging station, which will supply power that fast. Our charging time from empty had been more than 14 hours with the factory-supplied level 1 charger. With this unit, it's about 2.5 hours. We've been using the BougeRV level 2 charger for a month and have not used any gasoline during that time. I built a charging station to keep everything organized and up off the floor. The control box is at eye level and easy to use. I recommend the BougeRV charger holder, which works great. See my picture. It's too soon to comment on how sturdy the charger will be over the long term, but the initial quality seems good to me. The charger connector clicks easily and firmly into the charging port on the van. The cord is flexible and coils/uncoils easily. The cord holder is perfectly sized for the cord and is definitely sturdy. ... show more

  • Stopped working after 16 months
UPDATE: After I posted the original review, BougeRV contacted me and greed to send me a replacement, which is working properly. So their customer service is excellent and they check reviews. Changed rating to 4 stars. Hope this one lasts for a while! I purchased this EV charging cable for $330+ when we got a new car that only came with a 110V cable. (Our prior EV, a Tesla, came with both 110 and 220V.) It worked well but then we started having problems with charging several months ago. We had the car checked out with the dealer to eliminate problems with the car's port or software. Finally we determined it was the cable. I wrote to customer service last month and provided the requested documentation. They responded that it was out of warranty--1 year--and offered an $80 credit towards buying a new cable. I was annoyed, to say the least, because a cable at this price shouldn't have such a short life. (Our Tesla cord worked for almost 10 years before we sold the car, and is probably still working!) Even more annoying is that several other reviewers had similar problems and received a replacement cable. (I plan to copy those reviews and send to BougeRV customer service. If they send a replacement, I will update this review.) For now we are managing with the (ridiculously slow) 110V cable, as we aren't going on long drives. ... show more
