Description

Above-Ground Winter Cover with 12-Year Warranty. This Defender mid-priced cover has all the strength and durability to ensure years of winter protection. Heavier woven polyethylene scrim and coating makes this cover strong and able to withstand wind, sleet and snow. The cover is U.V. stabilized to protect it from the harmful effects of the sun. It features a black underside to retard algae growth and features heat sealed seams to ensure a crystal clear pool next spring. The cover features a 4 foot overlap means this cover won’t stretch and rip like smaller 3 foot overlap covers. This Defender 12 Year cover is held secure with a heavy duty vinyl coated cable and tightener that is anchored by rip proof metal grommets. This cover is backed by a 12 year warranty (2 years full rated). This Defender cover comes in forest green with a black underside.

LIke all pool covers we have owned over 30 years they seem to last only a few years and do I not mean five. This lasted as well as any other. Also, very important to oversize the cover so it is not stretched which shortens life further. What I did not like was the cheapo winch, which was like all other pool cover crappo winches, except this one was so hard to crank it was worthless. Fortunately from the 10 or 12 other covers I have bought over the years I have spare winches and spare cables. Reading the "20 Year" PRO-RATED warranty is very valuable learning experience so you will understand exactly how warranties can be written and appear fine but upon closer examination are really worthless. The other kind of warranty on other types of consumer products I really love is the one where it says the "seller can determine the market value at the time of warranty claim". After several years of buying Leslie's Pools winter cover that barely lasted one winter, I decided to give the Blue Wave a try based on Amazon reviews. This cover is a return to the quality products that I was able to purchase from Leslie's 20years ago. The cable grommets are spaced every 22" compared with 37" on the lesser quality Leslie product and the seams are double stitched and reinforced. The Artic Armor cover is also warranted at 100% replacement value for 2 years. The replacement credit at 4 years is prorated at 50%. The 12 year warranty is just silly as, at a 5% credit, it wouldn't pay enough to cover the return freight. Properly installed, as mine is, I expect the cover to last at least five years. Thanks Blue Wave for a quality product. Follow up spring 2017. As I suspected. This is a terrific cover. It looks brand new. Great job Blue Wave! As a hint for anyone reading this review, for the first time in 30 years, I didn't use the cable they provided but instead used cover clips. What a difference they made in ease of installation as well as easeing the opening process. If you have an above ground pool, use the cover clips. You won't be sorry. They work great and save wear and tear on the cover. I reminded of the saying "To soon old, too late smart." Learn from my experience. ... show more

We ordered this pool cover for obvious reasons, to protect the pool from sun damage (chemicals, debris, algae, and water evaporation). Upon opening the package we noticed that it resembles a tarp (the woven kind). The cover is HUGE so it is ample enough for our oval pool, and is precut in an oval shape. There are eyelets on the edge that you thread in and out a rubber coated cable to which you feed both ends into a mechanism that allows you to twist the ends together to tighten it down. For the most part it does what it says. The only thing we noticed is there should be more eyelets so there are no gaps without tension to allow the wind to whip it and balloon the cover up out of the water potentially causing damage to your cover. The cover we got did not have the correct number of eyelets in it so when we threaded the cable through all the eyelets, both ends of the cable would end up on the same side of the cover. Which is where you then install the tightening device. We managed, and got it to work. We are happy with the cover. It is what you paid for. I guess the only complaints we had was there should be more eyelets to better tighten it down from whipping wind, and the instructions need to say to put water on top of the cover to help hold the cover down. ... show more
