Since we already had a big supply of B&D 20v batteries for other products, this was a no brainer. Works well but as mentioned battery life is short. So if we vacuum the whole house on medium setting, you need one of the 4000 mAh batteries to do it. Otherwise, you can swap batteries. Main usage though is to get under products (it folds very flat )to get under couches etc if you don't have the attachments on the back of the body and does well to spot clean throughout the house to pick up dirt. Moderately noisy and works okay on thin carpet on medium. High, it works better on carpet but short battery life. ... show more

    • Excellent Performance from a Cordless Vac

My wife and I have a real problem with the current generation of vacuums. While bagless vacuums have become the "thing" we have always preferred those that required bags. It has just seemed for years now that the performance of bagless vacs just could not match traditional models. But the traditional models are just about extinct. We went through several full sized bagless vacs before we found one that could actually handle the hair from our Golden Retriever and Sheltie (the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Lift Off Bagless Upright Vacuum, which I've also reviewed). But I wanted to add a cordless stick vac to our arsenal that I could use in places such as the workshop in our old barn where electric supply is hard to come by. Persuaded by some good reviews and the fact that it takes the same battery as other B&D tools I own I decided to try this one. It turns out to be great. Great run time, plenty of power and thoroughly satisfying performance. I love that if I do need to use it beyond the capacity of its battery I can just swap it out for the battery from my B&D drill and keep on going. Yes, it is frustrating that the dust canister only holds 750 ml - but consider that this is almost twice as much volume as a Dyson that will set you back three times the price - or more! Contrary to the reports of several reviewers I have not had a single problem with the dust canister falling off or getting knocked off. And it's very easy to empty and clean. When the filter gets too dusty I just take the top of the canister out to the front porch, bang it on the steps a few times and a vast majority of the dust trapped in the filter falls right out. I was also surprised that it handles pet hair at least as well as the Bissell I mentioned earlier. And the design of the brush roller makes it a piece of cake to clear anything that gets wound around the roller. As a matter of fact, the entire thing is incredibly easy to clean and maintain. One day early on I was vacuuming away on the carpet and not yet used to the limited capacity of the dust canister. After a while it seemed like the vac was humming merrily along but wasn't picking things up very well. I stopped to investigate and discovered that not only had the canister filled up, but it kept on sucking away, filling the entire shaft clear down the the intake port...and still churning its little heart out trying to pick up more. Worried that I'd have to spend the next hour disassembling everything to get up and running again, I soon found that the process was unbelievably easy - no tools necessary other than a stick to push the accumulation out of the shaft once I disconnected it - and I was back up and running in minutes. Outstanding! Once upon a time B&D made some reasonably decent tools. Then - for years - the quality of their products (in my opinion) got progressively worse and worse. But in the last several years I believe they have come out with a general line of tools that now rival the best names out there. This stick vac continues that revival and I believe this was an excellent purchase - and on the first try, no less! ... show more

    • Very decent Vacuum, Removable batteries make it worth it along with Price

Got it today, and tested it out: Findings: -Suction is okay to good, had issues under counters doing the running boards and edges/corners. -Suction pattern leaves a sliver behind in the middle that a simple pass can solve. -LED lights are perfectly positioned to light up dust on the floor. -You can't easily pop up the front end to get it to rest and glide onto quarter round. -The profile on the pet vacuum is a little too low which is a blessing and a curse, it's great since it means I don't have to constantly fish out pens and wood scraps from under it, but also means it's not going to easily pick up cereal pieces, dog food, peas either. -The dust I collected from my quick test really stuck to the center column in the chamber even though I might of only picked up 1/10th of what it's capable of holding. Meaning that it will quickly clog that up and kill suction until I go in and scrape it off the metal filter/grate. -Having a lot of Black and Decker 20V tools, I was curious to see if this vacuum would accept their own larger capacity options, like their 4Ah ones, essentially doubling run time to nearly 2hrs. It does. So if battery life is an issue, you can kind of finagle it to better suit your needs, and those extended batteries aren't that much more expensive. There are even third party options that promise 6Ah too, meaning that you're now tripling the battery life and getting about 2.5hrs out of it. Also, those extended batteries out there don't add enough weight to mess with its standing while resting ability. At this price, it performs similarly to the Shark Duo Ion Flex vacuum I have, well under the Dyson I own, and is half the price of the former and a fourth of the latter. So, yeah, as an alternative to their dustbuster line, I recommend it. I would like to try out the other heads and see if I can't find one that I like better. ... show more
