I bought this vacuum because I have some other 20 volt B&D tools. I sure didn't expect this vacuum to be quite as good as it turned out to be. On high speed it sucks out dirt that I didn't know was even in the rug since it was cleaned before with a well known vacuum. Only problem with high speed is that the battery doesn't last long but on medium speed it holds up very well and does a very good job of cleaning. I spent a ton of time researching different cordless vacuums to find one that had everything I was looking for: - Something that wouldn't spit dust back out or blow the dust around it while you vacuum - A canister that opens/cleans easily, because I hate cleaning so I need it to be super convenient - A removable brush roller because I have a lot of hair and need to be able to easily get it out of the roller - Replaceable battery since basically every cordless vacuum review complains about the battery life getting worse over time - Of course decent suction - Less than $200 This vacuum seemed to tick all the boxes and so far, it has. We've been using it now for over a year and it's still going strong, though we don't use it every day, probably a couple times a week. I think the suction is great- it has 3 power levels and I primarily just use the lowest level. The battery life is imo comparable to other cordless vacuums (it seems like generally cordless vacuums aren't known for having long bettery life)- I can vacuum my entire 2400 sqft house in one full charge using the lowest power setting and changing it to medium or high power only when needed. The only time it's ever died mid-vacuum is if I forgot to charge it after the last time I used it. The like that the canister opens on the bottom, so all you have to do is hold it over the trash and press the button to release the lid. The canister and filter are also easy to take apart and clean. Note: The first time I took the inner filter thing out, it was pretty stuck in there. I had to use a bit of force and I wasn't sure if I was doing it right. Once you take it out the first time, it's very easy to pop out. The top filter also pops out easily. You're also able to twist the top to knock off some dust- this doesn't seem to do too much for me but that's ok, I just pop it out and knock it over the trash if needed in between actually flushing it with water. All the pieces are easy to rinse/wash. Some of the "nice to haves" that I could have lived without but really appreciate are the extra brush attachments, that it's freestanding, that you can either take the battery out to charge or attach the charger to the battery while it's on the vacuum, that you can install the charger on the wall to charge/hold the vacuum, and that you can easily detach the vacuum and use it in handheld mode. Plus, in handheld mode, you can detach it close to the handle for a classic handheld size or you can detach it at the bottom of the handle for an extended handheld size (see pictures). If you own other Black + Decker products, the battery is also interchangeable. Our other power tools are Ryobi, but I still liked that this has the interchangeable batteries because that means it will likely be super easy/affordable to replace the battery or buy extras if needed. I didn't want a vacuum where the battery was replaceable but hard to find or just as expensive as the vacuum itself. If you do use other B+D products, that'd probably be even better. I do have pets but I didn't really buy this because it's advertised as a "pet" vacuum. Honestly, it just had all the features I wanted and if it happens to work better for pets, then that's an added bonus! ... show more

Style: 20V Pet Vacuum
I'm writing this on Black Friday having just decided to pass on buying this again just now; hoping to get another year or more out of the one I've had for over 4 years now. Here's what I don't like so much: 1. The roller is mediocre and roller maintenance is not simple. It seizes often, with hair getting wrapped in the end nubs. When it does, you must take apart the one end of the roller and give it a cleaning. Sometimes this involves hitting the end with a plastic mallet to get it off. I also give it a little spray of silicon lube (the garage door type) to keep it free moving. I thought I'd replace the roller with a 3rd party, but the 3rd party roller was equally mediocre. So if it seizes and I don't have time to do maintenance right then, I swap in the 3rd party roller and finish up. 2. Battery life was good initially, but after 4 years of weekly use, keeping it plugged in when not in use, the battery only lasts about 10 minutes. I just bought another B&D 20V battery, so expect that will solve the problem. 3. Putting the canister back on after emptying is somewhat difficult. Aside from lining up the holes and tabs correctly, it takes some force. I've learned "the touch" that slaps it back into place nicely. What I do like: 1. It balances and stays upright on its own. I store it freestanding in an area that sees moderate traffic and it takes a direct hit to knock it over. Much more stable than you'd think looking at it. 2. The filter is easy to clean and replace 3. Suction is decent for a battery powered vacuum. It's not gonna get the ground in stuff, but picks up nearly everything that's loose and visible. For the price, I'm satisfied, would and probably will buy again. For a person who's older or a bit more feeble, I could see emptying the canister being a challenge, and removing the roller requires some finger strength. ... show more
