Personal info- my old vacuum broke. They usually last about two years tops in my household. I have 3 dogs (a long haired collie + 2 other excessive shedders) and two children (under 3), plus a husband. All women know thats like another kid. Also, vacuuming sucks. One of my least favorite chores-but who has a favorite right? I vacuum every other day if not every day. I don’t normally go for the expensive machines because of how quickly we go through them. This time though, I had my eyes on a high functioning, high powered, expensive quality machine for a weeks. I was hoping for something that would last longer!! While going through all the pros and cons on multiple vacuums and brands, I decided to buy this one until I could find a “really nice one” that I liked enough to pay $300+ on. Save yourself from hours of comparing and buy this one. Like I said, this was my temporary replacement. I ended my research and comparing after I received this in the mail (took 3 days). Best vacuum I’ve ever had. I’ve had at least 5 different machines since becoming a homeowner. All of them have been pretty generic with no features other than function. This vacuum is awesome-especially for the price. I love the automatic rewind, the swivel, the easy removal of the brushes for easy cleaning, the easy dump dirt container, the easy clean/replace filter, the brushes on the side that grab the loose hair near the floor boards, and most importantly the suction. I couldn’t believe how much I picked up with just one rotation in my house! (I used to go over high traffic rooms 2-3 times). BUY IT. I can have a baby on my hip and get the vacuum out, use it, and put it away with ease. Seriously, EASE. Even my husband likes vacuuming but don’t get your hopes up ladies. I can’t promise that for you. If only BISSELL could add the husband feature in the future! It even has a nice suction indicator- I haven’t seen it change from green (good suction) which I assume is a good thing! I will hopefully be able to see it change if the motor isn’t functioning or if something is stuck. I’ve had this machine for 4 months and today it works like it did when I took it out of the box. I’ve cleaned my brushes once and I empty the dirt container after every use. I haven’t had to mess with the filter but it looks like I’ll just have to rinse it. The swivel took some getting used to but I’ve never had a swivel turn vacuum before so that just might be me. I love it now but that’s why I docked a star. Some reviewers mentioned they had trouble maneuvering corners and such but again, it just took some getting used to. I definitely recommend for parents and dog owners as this picks up everything from spilled Cheerios and food crumbs, dog hair, and dirt I thought my old machine should have gotten. I hope this review saves a few buyers from wasting time comparing brands and machines! I feel like I saved a hundred+ dollars by purchasing this. Again, I’ve never had anything more than a $200 machine but I’ll purchase this one again when I have to. It still works great and I expect it to last twice as long as any vacuum I’ve had in the past. Good luck cleaning!! ... show more

  • Amazing Vacuum that Makes Carpets look Brand New!
Style: Teal
I ordered the Bissell after my previous vacuum broke. I am AMAZED at how great this vacuum works!! I had NO idea how horrible my previous vacuum was until I received this one. My husband and I were both so amazed at how much it pulled up from our thin rug in our living room that we took a video of it! I will upload that video at some point. It worked great at pulling up human hair, pet hair, etc. It made our bedroom look like we had brand new carpet. Again, I had no clue how horrible my previous vacuum was until I bought this one. I love the automatic cord retractor - however - it did cut through the cord and strip it in a section. I reached out to Bissell and they had AMAZING customer service. They sent me pre-paid postage and paid for me to send the vacuum back for them to fix my vacuum. They sent it back to me in a very quick turn around. I am extremely pleased with Bissell's customer service. They even included a complementary pet clean-up product that was sent back with the fixed vacuum. I think I'm a Bissell customer for life now. Again, I'm very happy with this product! My only complaint was the cord was broken in the first place, but Bissell did what they needed to do to make it right. ... show more

  • Awesome quality and performance
Style: Blue
I love it. It’s powerful. Has a retractable power cord. Long extension hose so it’s easy to get crevices. Easy to push (has different settings for thicker carpet/hard floors) and if you have pets , it’s super awesome for vacuuming the sofa. It comes with a turbo brush attachment which makes things a lot easier than just a traditional hose or brush. I’m super happy with it. Doesn’t feel cheap at all. ... show more

  • If you have pets that shed you're gonna want this thing!

I have had this vacuum for 2.5 years now, so I think that's a pretty good amount of time to know what's good and bad about it. My previous vacuum was a Dyson Ball Animal, which I had for five or six years, so that's what I'm comparing it to. Overall the Bissell is a good vacuum, mainly because the suction power is amazing. Even when my Dyson was new it didn't have the suction power that the Bissell does, and for the last few years before it died I was having to use one of those scraper tools to pull all the cat hair up out of our rugs first before vacuuming, which was very labor intensive. We currently have 13 cats in the house, so it's extremely important for us to have a reliable vacuum that works very well and can handle all the cat hair. The Bissell can do that! So here are the main things I like about this vacuum: it has absolutely no trouble pulling ALL the cat hair out of the rugs, and of course hardwood/tile floors are no problem. The little side bristles help to pull in dirt and hair next to baseboards, which is also really helpful. It's very lightweight and swivels on a dime, so it's easy to handle. The tank is large and very easy to empty, and even when hair gets stuck up around the filter, it's big enough to reach into. That was a problem with the Dyson, because hair would get stuck up near the top but it was almost too small to reach into so I'd have to use a hangar to get everything out. I also like that the cord retracts, and there's a little thing near the top of the handle that you can clip the cord into to help keep it out of the way. Changing the belt is fairly easy - but I'll get into that later. The things I don't like as much: The hose works fine and some of the tools are good, like the one with the brush on it, but it could be improved. This is one area where the Dyson was much better - the hose was longer and had a sort of handle, and everything was better quality. The Bissell tools are cheap and don't work as well, especially the "triple action brush roll" that's supposed to pick up cat hair. I have tried and tried to figure out how to make that thing work and it just doesn't. That is probably the biggest disappointment with the Bissell - I absolutely need an attachment that picks up cat hair to vacuum the couch, chairs, and everything else that gets covered in hair. The Dyson has an attachment like that with little rotating heads that works incredibly well. Fortunately, it fits on the Bissell hose! If you have pets I highly recommend buying that attachment by itself to use with the Bissell. It's the Tangle-Free Turbine Tool that goes with the Dyson Animal DC40 upright vacuum. I also still use the "articulating hard floor tool" that came with the Dyson, because the Bissell doesn't have anything like that and it fits on the Bissell hose. The Bissell corner tool may be useful if you have carpeted stairs but I don't have stairs and have never found a use for it. The Bissell is bigger than the Dyson and doesn't fit under things as well. Also, when using the hose you have to be very careful not to pull too much or the whole vacuum will fall over because it's so lightweight. I have learned that you have to hold onto it or lay it down to use the hose. Also, over time it has gotten louder; I'm not sure why. Those things are all minor annoyances. The main negative is the same thing many other people have mentioned - the belt breaks too easily. I'd had it less than two months when the belt broke, because I had the vacuum sitting on the edge of a rug that had fringe. While I was busy vacuuming under something with the hose, it somehow sucked the fringe up and I guess it got clogged and that snapped the belt. I was prepared for that because of other reviews, so I ordered more belts from Bissell and they arrived pretty quickly. In the directions it tells you to remove the screws from the plate on the bottom, but there is one more than it says there are. After a few minutes I figured out how to get the belt in the right place and around the roller, put everything back together, turned it on, and there was immediately a horrible noise and I swear flames came out of the vacuum before I could get it turned off. I took the bottom plate off again and not only was the new belt broken but the roller was also broken. I'm not sure what happened because I followed the directions. I contacted Bissell support and told them what happened, and it took them a couple of days to respond, but when they did they said those things aren't usually covered by the warranty but that they would send me a new roller and belt free of charge! They arrived pretty quickly. The roller was a different color than the original, but I wasn't going to gripe about a free replacement. This time after I reinstalled everything it worked perfectly. Since then it has worked great, and no more broken belts! I have learned to be somewhat careful with it. If you buy this vacuum be aware that the suction is so good it will suck up small rugs (like bath mats), and don't roll over small cords or anything loose that could get tangled up in the roller. I never worried about that with the Dyson because even if something did get sucked up I could just pull it out. The Bissell is not as sturdy but will EAT things if you're not careful. Bottom line - even with the minor annoyances I would buy this vacuum again in a heartbeat just for the suction alone, but the price definitely helps. ... show more

  • Good suction

I like to vacuum my floors daily. Still, this vacuum was able to suck up dust and stuff that had been low in the carpets and crevices for too long. It’s a good vacuum and worth the price.
