Great automatic trash can! I’ve been really happy with this 13-gallon automatic trash can. The motion sensor works well, and I’ve had no issues with it opening or closing. It looks nice and holds a good amount of trash without taking up too much space. The only thing to know is that the lid closes pretty quickly unless you press the stay open button. If you’re changing the bag or cleaning up after a big meal, using that feature makes it much easier. Other than that, it works exactly as expected, and I’d definitely recommend it.

No one reads 2-4 stars so here's a 4 star review. It's ok-good. The lid open and closes with motion. About 50% of the time, it doesn't open all the way. If its placed against a wall or counter and bumped, the switch will turn off. I'll need to place a spacer by the switch. The open and close button is nice and the lid doesn't close until the open button is pressed. An other brand I had would close after 5 minutes.

Cannot say enough about this phenomenal trash can! Great value for the money, you cannot go wrong with this one. The motion detection is spot-on and works every time. It keeps odors inside with the tight sealed lid and the bag insertion & removal is a piece of cake (there's a simple hole in the back of the can that you pull the bag through). Works like a charm!

For the price, you really can’t complain however I do have some complaints. My biggest complaint is I have to wave my hand over the trashcan a lot to trigger it to open not every time but enough for it to be annoying on the other hand. It was super cheap a lot cheaper than any other trashcan. I’ve seen like this so you get what you pay for I’ve had it now for a little over a month and I can say that it consistently requires me to waive my hand a lot to open it sometimes it does open a little easier than others. Sometimes I have to wave my hand a lot. One thing I can say is it does not open when I walk by maybe because I haven’t tucked away so it’s not directly in my path, but it very rarely opens when I walk by. I have to like have something in my hand that would go over the sensor. My other grip is it doesn’t feel like a true 13 gallon. I would say 11 gallons and I know that because when the item arrived, I had my old 13 gallon trashcan next to it and there was definitely about a 2 to 3 gallon difference. I honestly consider sending it back just based off of that but again I had to remember the price that I paid and I have been looking for an automatic trashcan like this for quite some time and they’ve always been $80-$100 so I was really excited to get this. The other thing that I loved was most trash cans are stainless steel, which are great until you get fingerprints all over them or they start to tarnish so I really want something more of a heavy duty plastic like this, and this just hits all the bells and whistles of what I was looking for minus the fact that you have to beg for it to open. It doesn’t bother me on a daily basis because typically what I’m doing when open the trashcan is not anything that’s gonna cause an issue if it doesn’t open immediately however it is a little bit inconvenient as far as just functionality wise. I would hands-down recommend and I would repurchase again just based off the price. Now, if this price goes up even $15 my review would completely change. I’m serious lol. Another thing that I love about the trashcan is that it doesn’t have another trashcan inside. I know a lot of manufacturers think that’s so amazing to have two trash cans in one, but it’s really super inconvenient for me and I’ve noticed that it just create something extra for you to clean. I really love that. It’s just straight to the point. You just put the trash bin on top of the bag and you’re good to go. I have experienced an order and it did very well with containing that odor in my trashcan. I was very surprised because I did not think it would do that. I had fish in there for two days that smelled really bad and I had no idea it was coming from the trashcan and every time I opened it, I kind of got it with but again it takes so long to open the trashcan that by the time it close back that’s when I got the width and it was kind of like a delayed situation for me to understand that that’s what it was causing the issue. It was causing the smell so it does keep odors contained unlike some of my other manual ones in the past. Overall this is a good product despite my complaints about the delay with opening. I think with a product like this there’s really no middle ground because if it’s too sensitive, it’s gonna open all the time and if it’s not sensitive enough, it’s gonna require a little bit more manually intervention to get it to open automatically so I think this is actually the best option. Another thing to know is if the trashcan is full or kind of full it seems like the lid doesn’t wanna close automatically so be mindful of that because again remember this isn’t a true 13 gallon so you’re gonna have to empty the trash more than usual and because it’s a little oddly shaped, I’m not able to put as much trash as I was in my previous trashcan so like I get a lot of packages and I have a lot of packaging and that kind of stuff is just way too bulky and the trashcan is full almost instantly by the time I’m done with like packaging and things like that so that kind of stuff I kind of put to the side and don’t even use the trashcan for it anymore at this point. So all in all good product for this price point. I think I paid $40 ish

Super cute but super glitchy. As a regular trash can, this thing works great! Holds a bag very well, it is a great size, and looks great. But, the motion dector works intermittently. The opening/closing also works well sometimes and not do well sometkmes...it doesn't always open fully. It is not an item that I would buy again or recommend.

Everything in my kitchen has to be smart now. The fridge has an app, the oven talks to my phone, and now apparently the trash can needs a sensor. This was my husband's idea. I sometimes wonder if everything around him being smart is compensating for something. So here it is, a touchless automatic trash can. The sensor detects your hand, the lid opens, you toss your trash, the lid closes. Simple. And it actually works really well, the sensor is responsive and the lid opens fast. Maybe too fast and too well, actually. We keep our trash can under the prep counter and the sensor picks up the countertop, so it just starts going open close open close open close like it's having a conversation with the granite. We had to position it just right with the sensor sticking out past the counter edge. Not ideal, not what we planned for, but it works. I was prepping dinner one night and every time I went to dump garlic remnants the lid would close on me mid toss. I glared at my husband. He wisely retreated to the Amazon product description and came back with the revelation that if you press the open button it stays open until you press close. Game changer. That feature alone saved this trash can from becoming the thing I threw in the trash can. When it opens it makes this very distinct little sound. Within a week we were both mimicking it at random times around the house for no reason at all. My husband, who doesn't even like sci-fi, named it R2-Trash2. So now we have a named trash can that we impersonate. This is what smart home living does to people. The build quality is solid, noticeably better than what it replaced. We went with plastic over stainless steel because the last thing I need in my kitchen is another surface that shows every fingerprint. What are we, CSI? We picked the regular black because they also sell a "dark black" which is apparently the black hole in the universe black and costs five dollars more. We were not paying extra for existential darkness in our kitchen. The regular black goes on sale pretty frequently though, so if you see it under forty dollars, that's your moment. It fits standard 13 gallon bags perfectly, no fussing or folding. The "odor control" claim sounds like some miracle technology but let's be real, it just means the lid stays closed. Which, fair enough, a closed lid does control odor better than an open one. They're not wrong, just creative with the marketing. Now the batteries. This thing runs on four C batteries, which I literally had to order because nothing in this house uses C batteries anymore. I briefly considered raiding the old Maglite in the emergency drawer but figured leaving ourselves without a working flashlight during a power outage to feed a trash can was not my smartest move. Everything else has gone rechargeable at this point, including things in rooms I'm not going to talk about. But honestly I love that this runs on batteries. No cord, no hunting for an outlet behind the trash can, no cable management in the kitchen. Just pop them in and forget about it. They claim 40,000 openings per set which means you'll probably forget this thing even runs on batteries at all. It's a good trash can. The sensor works great once you figure out the placement, the stay open feature is essential, and R2-Trash2 has somehow become a member of the family. Just don't put it under a counter without expecting a little drama first.
