  • One of the best EV chargers you can get for home use
Earlier this year, my wife and I both got new EVs. She's had one before but my Tesla is my first EV and having two new vehicles in house gave me the chance to become really obsessive about their care and upkeep. As is my nature, it also gave me the opportunity to try out every piece of EV related equipment and accessory I could find. My plan all along was to set up a state of the art charging station at my home, at my wife's office and at my office. The biggest issue with my plan was that I could never find equipment that I was really happy with. This charger is a marked exception and that's why it's now pulling the freight at my home charging center. Simply put, I haven't seen a better charger for the consumer facing market. This isn't surprising, since it's essentially a commercial grade product packaged for the consumer niche. When my wife started talking about getting a new EV--and getting me one as well--one of her selling points was the ability to set up my own fueling center. Unfortunately, most of the chargers I tried didn't give me the vibe of a top quality charging station. That's one of the first things I noticed about this charger--it's one of the only ones I've experienced for home use that has the look and feel of a premium product. You can use it on any EV and it has just about every IoT connectivity known to man built in including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, 4G, RS485 and even CAN (Controller Area Network). The touch screen is large, vivid and sleek. The app allows you to do even more including tracking charging session which is obviously something I love. It's screaming fast, seriously weatherproof and won't have an issue at any temperature between -40F to 131F. It's also built with all of the safety features and certifications you'd want. There are definitely cheaper EV chargers but sometimes you have to pay for quality. This is quality and for home use I'm not sure this isn't the best device of this sort you can buy. My highest recommendation! ... show more

  • Very high-quality with all the bells and whistles
This charger far exceeds my expectations. It literally can do everything you can imagine and as a smart charger it’s easy to monitor and control even remotely it charges quickly and has a very long cord which is much longer than our old one and that has been fantastic as well, the Bill quality is great everything seems very robust and well-made which I would expect at this point I can’t speak on the installation side of it because we had our installed by our electrician but he didn’t seem to have any issues or anything getting everything connected and wired up This is something I would recommend for anybody with this is to have it professionally installed but that’s just my opinion we do have an adapter so we could use this with the Tesla vehicles as well and even with that adapter this thing works great. Yes I know you can get these types of chargers cheaper but if you want the high-end with all the features without going completely commercial charger I don’t see how you could do any better than this. It’s amazing. ... show more

  • Amazing charger
This was not overly complicated to get set up. I love that it has an app for it, and if you wanted you could set it up to let it be publicly used and be able to charge people to use it. It's a pretty cool option if you wanted to set it up at your place of business. It charges my truck very fast. You can set it up with whatever amperage you want. Would be nice if it had a holder for the cord, I bought one separately. That was the only downside I've found so far. ... show more

  • Full Featured Quality
This has all the boxes checked for features. It can be a bit of overkill for private use unless one has many friends with EVs and who want to charge while visiting and then you want to be able to have them pay for what they used without hassle then this is great. Otherwise ofc it's great for commercial use as it has that necessary capability. be sure to check out all the features as there are many and they do make a difference, especially if you like to monitor usage, off-peak charging and so on. Nice to see a product like this with all the features and still at a decent price. Good quality and well made. A good deal. :) ... show more

  • Wow, this charger has so many features!
This is an expensive charger but but boy does it have all the features. Touchscreen control, remote app, and the list goes on. Wifi range is good and you can even put in a sim card if you dont have wifi and want it to run off of cellular. There are lots of features that allow you to customize the device. You can input your electrical rate and it will show you how much it costs to charge your vehicle. The charger itself was super easy to setup and I already have a plug in my garage for it. Upon starting the charger up and connecting it to wifi, it had a software update. I had no issues upgrading the unit although it took a little while to do this. We tried it out on my parents plug in hybrid Rav4 and it worked awesome. There are cheaper and simpler chargers out there but if you want a top of the line charger that not only looks cool but has so many features, this could be the right choice for you. I love Autel and this is another great product by them! ... show more

  • A great charger for personal or commercial use
This is a great charger for your home garage or your business. What's nice about this charger is the many different configurations available. You're not limited to a certain amperage, so if your circuit is loaded too much for 70A, you can dial it back to 60 or 50 or 40. The other great feature for business or maybe even personal use is that you can set it up to be a networked pay per use charging station. So you can theoretically have some passive income by charging folks to use the charger so you're electric bill isn't just shooting through the roof. ... show more

  • Would be Great for Most People, but not for My Application
Let me just point out that while this is a very capable charger, almost overkill for a residential situation, there’s one “bug” that makes it not a good fit for me. I’ve used Autel chargers in the past, and I was hoping that this would be fixed by now, but they still don’t work properly for how I want to use it. Otherwise, this is an amazing charger. It looks nice mounted on the wall, and it is the only charger that I’ve used that can charge my Mach E at the full 10.5kW power rate. My 48A charger, even though it theoretically should be able to charge this fast, doesn’t quite make it. Either that 2kW extra makes the difference, or it’s just a better charger. I swapped this charger for my 48A one, and it was very simple because I already had a hardwire setup. All I needed to do was swap my 60A circuit breaker for a 70A, and my wiring was already good enough because I planned ahead in the installation. I had it swapped out and powered up in less than 30 minutes. There was a firmware update available, so I installed it. This took quite a long time, because it failed during the first attempt and I had to do it a second time. It took longer to update than it did for me to install it! The setup was easy, since I already had the app set up because I’ve used Autel chargers before. It should still be easy enough. I hit a little snag when setting it up. You need a code to set it up, but the 6-digit PIN on a sticker in the manual wasn’t the right one. Luckily the QR code on the sticker worked, which displayed a completely different number when I scanned it, and it worked fine. The phone app is pretty nice. You get detailed data on your charge history, and if you set your electricity rate, it will let you how much you’re spending to charge your car up. You can also configure lots of things, including lowering the charge rate if you need to. More on that later… This apparently has commercial features for billing for public use, but since I’m using it at home, I haven’t looked into any of that too much. The WiFi connection is strong, so it’s able to stay connected to my access point even though is is pretty far away. The Bluetooth range is more limited, but that’s usually the case with any charger that I’ve tried out. I’ve since connected it via Ethernet for even more reliability, and you could install a SIM card in it if you can’t get WiFi or Ethernet to it. Very nice, as the connectivity is outstanding. The cable is nice and long, and the J1772 looks sturdy. It stores in a holster in the unit when you’re not using it. If you install it where it is publicly accessible and you don’t want other people using it, you can set up an RFID tag. I had a bunch of these sitting around from an electric door lock, and I set one up. It’s very easy to do. You just add a new card in the app, chose add from charger, and touch the tag to the RFID spot on the charger. It will beep when it reads the tag, and after that, you just need to tap the tag to the spot before it will begin charging. Again, this is for home use in my case, so while it was neat to set up, my wife doesn’t appreciate the extra step so I turned that feature off. The touchscreen display is pretty cool. I thought it would be more gimmicky, but I really like it a lot. It shows lots of details while you’re charging, so you can see how it’s doing without needing the app. It shows a lot of Autal ads, which is kind of odd, but it’s a commercial charger, I suppose. I’d like to see if I can modify this later on to customize it a bit. The images in the description show information on a PC screen, but I haven’t figured out where to get the PC software yet. I’ve only been using this for a day, but I’ve used an Autel charger in the past and it was rock solid while I used it. I would still be using that one, if not for that “bug” that I mentioned earlier. The “bug” is kind of a deal-breaker for me, and it’s why I won’t be able to use this as my “main” charger. I have two plug-in vehicles, and this one will be more of a spare for when we need to charge both cars simultaneously.. The bug is that it’s not fully OCPP compliant, despite what the product description says. It’s “mostly” compliant, except for the one feature that I require - being able to dynamically adjust the charge current. I have solar panels on my roof, and I use automation that compares how much energy my solar panels are producing vs how much energy my home is consuming, then adjust the EVSE current so that the car will only use extra power that my solar panels are making. This keeps my electricity bills down, and since my utility doesn’t buy my extra power at the same cost that they sell it to me, it keeps me from “wasting” extra power by sending it back to the grid. For some reason, Autel doesn’t use the OCPP standard for setting the maximum current. It doesn’t work on my home OCPP server, and it doesn’t work on the ChargeHQ service. When you try to adjust the power, you just get an error on either platform,. You can adjust the current using the app if you’re connected to the Autel Cloud OCPP server so they have some way of doing it, but not any other server. There is presumably some way to do this using a third-party power meter, but I already have two meters that work fine so I don’t want to buy and install another one, and there is zero documentation from Autel on how to do this or what is required. If they simply used an OCPP compliant method for adjusting the current, I could get it working the way I want in minutes, like I did on my primary charger. If you’re just looking for a nice charger and don’t care about controlling power, this is a solid 5-star EVSE. Maybe the best I’ve ever used. If you want to have more control over it, it only gets 3 stars, because it won’t do what you want. ... show more
