    • It’s small compact and a necessity to have
Love it. I used this mini scanner to program the fob for my key. It was pretty easy since the app gives you all the steps to follow and it shows you how to set up and activate the key fob. I also loved that the scanner is easy to use, I’m not much of a car person so I don’t know much about cars other than the basics so I loved that once it read a code it gives you a description of what the problem is and some ways to fix it. It inserts videos so you will know how to fix the code. It comes in handy for small fixes and just figuring out what’s wrong with your car. I mean this scanner saved me a couple hundred bucks since everyone kept insisting my car needed a new alternator and timing belt when in all actuality it just needed a new battery. ... show more

Without the app, the device is like a stone, doesn't do anything. The main issue is that the seller doesn't specify that it doesn't work in any country, or that it works only in the USA or EU.     • Great Scanner, but beware buying on Amazon
"I purchased this scanner for my 2005 Acura RSX Type S. I needed an updated OBD2 scan tool since mine was over a decade old. It still functioned but did not have nearly the amount of useful functions as the AP200. When I recieved the scanner I opened the sealed package and went through the quick reference guide, setup steps. After scanning the QR Code on the side of the VCI for it to enter the serial number nothing happened. I played around for 20 minutes downloading different Autel software in Hope's I had maybe just made a mistake. Finally after being super frustrated I called the 1-855-AutelUS phone number. It was later in the day around 2:30PST and I'm on the West Coast so I wasn't sure if I would reach anyone. But sure enough someone named Nithin answered. I told him my issue and he had me download teamviewer so he could see exactly what was happening. He though it was odd also and asked for my Units Serial number. After checking that he said my Brand New AP200 had already been registered to some guy and he had downloaded the Volkswagon diagnostic information with it. I was rightfully upset and angry. He explained this actually happens often with these because Amazon has a no questions asked return policy. People apparently purchase these Scanners from amazon, scan the bar code through the clear packaging or use the Serial number which has an easily noticable sticker on the outside of the package to download the $20 vehicle software and then return them for a refund. Pretty Pathetic and Sad. So Autel needs to fix this issue by making it impossible to scan the QR code through the packaging and make a no return policy on these items. Luckily the customer service representative Nithin was awesome! And we had a few good laughs at the expense of the VW guy. The rep said he would unlock the unit from the scammers account and I should be able to use it within a day and get my free software for my vehicle. So today I was able to finishing setting it up and I immediately programmed 2 new keys I had already had cut by using my only original for the vehicle. This AP200 actually saved me money on just that alone! The dealer wanted $125 to program 2 keys because they use special scan tools and software but this awesome scanner was able to easily do it for me once I followed some basic steps. This is just the tip of the iceburg! This little scanner does so much more useful stuff I cant wait to try out. Well worth the cost in my opinion and better than more popular OBD2 Bluetooth scanners that do way less. But beware about what I said above regarding these people who are trying to scam the system through Amazon. At first i thought i had made a big mistake and was going to return it, but Autels customer service saved the day and made me a happy customer. These units are sold at Auto Parts stores also. So maybe that is a little safer way to purchase these scanners than on Amazon. I am using Android on a Samsung S8+ and so far haven't experienced any issues.     • Best code scanner for the money
I can’t afford a $800-1000 scanner right now, but I needed something better than the $50-75 simple engine only code reader. The manufacturer software is only $22 per manufacturer/brand per year, so it’s not expensive to keep. So far with the manufacturer. The other expensive scanners require yearly renewal of $400+/year. If I was a garage that would be a deal, but I only work on my own cars. I do all my own work as long as I have the tools needed and don’t need a full car lift to do it. This Bluetooth makes it easy to work on the car with my phone and kick off diags and do things like TPMS and so on. I’m actually able to read transmission codes and BCM also and reset the systems. These codes do not show up on a normal code scanner. If I’m buying a used car, this tool will be VERY important to determine what’s really wrong with the car before buying. I highly recommend this if you can’t afford a tablet scanner. I now have time to save for one of those. I’m able to help others with repairs or knowledge also. It’s easy to use just read the instructions and know that you will need to download an additional app launched with the main app. That app does the specific manufacturer diags. ... show more

I bought this product to program all the keys after an ignition switch replacement on a 2009 Honda Ridgeline. The setup was a little clunky using my Google Pixel 4a, but after a few app installs and creation of accounts, it worked perfectly. If it had not, the car would have had to be towed to the dealer where the programming would have cost over $150. So the tool paid for itself at least twice over on the first use. Fair warning though, it worked for the key programming, but I have since attempted several other of the "special functions" and found them hit and miss. For instance, I tried to perform a steering angle sensor calibration on the same car. That function did not work. I sent a message to Autel through the app, but never received a response. Don't expect $2,000 scanner capability for under $100. But for $100, totally worth it. ... show more

    • Not sure it's worth it. Not much difference than other simple ODB II readers.
First blush. Mostly disappointed. Not much different than my other several years old Actron OBD II reader. Some additional function that doesn't seem exceptionally useful. You get one free registration of a single manufacturer and pay a yearly subscription for any additional manufacturers. I knew this going in but hoped that would get me some truly useful functions. As far as I see that gets you recalls and TSB's (which I could look up or find in owner's forums). Maybe some additional diagnosis steps (which I can generally find online anyhow). Newer DTC definitions (which I could look up online anyhow). When I registered my Honda Clarity PHEV) that also opened up some "advanced functions" like battery state of charge. Not particularly useful. There's some functions to reset various things. Things I can do from the vehicle's console. Service reminders. TPMS relearn. I could clear DTC's with my Actron on all the cars I own and there's no additional subscription fee. Hoped for more. Manual module operation of output devices: solenoids, motors and such. Battery degradation current state and history. Engine hours (especially useful for a PHEV that gets mostly in-town battery only use). ABS bleed (I'd be really surprised if this wasn't fairly easy to add). TPMS replacement (you'd think this would be doable as well). Any two of those would have been enough for me to rate this a 4/5. Any 3 and I would have rated 5/5, and been telling others I know personally to "buy it now" and adding additional subscriptions for my other vehicles. ... show more

    • It fit my needs for detecting trouble codes and routine maintenance of my cars.
Update: I subscribed to four makes of automobile, however, my fourth subscription did not work, though I had to pay for it. I’m disappointed. The scanner still works well for the other three. Previously: It helps if you read up on using ODB ScanTools before you use the scanner. It can be confusing if you do not understand the hierarchy of trouble codes. Also, the enhanced codes will make more sense. I took off one star for the lack of complete instructions that explain each function. I’m using the enhanced functions more than the standard ODB tests. This gives me the transmission fluid temperature necessary for doing routine maintenance changing the fluid. I noticed that the speed at which it gathers data depends upon the vehicle make. My Honda was fast and my Mercedes was much slower because it’s testing more functions. Also, the Benz app took a long time to download and had to be downloaded several times for my iPhone 6s. I also use this with my iPad Air, which has a faster processor, bigger screen, and more memory. I do not know if these apps work with iOS 14 because I haven’t updated yet. Comparing the scanner to my friends $500 scanner, it appears that I get About the same information. His annual subscription cost is more than the purchase price of the scanner. ... show more
