  • Almost Perfect Portable Projector
I am quite satisfied with this projector. Obviously, you should not use it outdoors or in a well-lighted room, but it's perfect for small meeting rooms or a bedroom. There are a few gripes that shave off a fifth star though. 1. The physical keys are finicky and sometimes work in unexpected ways (pressing a button for X is registered as button Y), which means you need to use the remote control. 2. The projector battery discharges VERY quickly, going from full to almost empty in less than a week. I suspect this is due to the projector always being in a ready state to respond to remote control presses. 3. Some of the network features, once you buy the compatible dongle, feel half baked. The only reliable way to connect a phone is through the Asus app or via physical MHL cable. It SEEMS to want to support Android screen mirroring via Miracast (Note: Asus never claims this, but there is an option for it), but it almost always fails. 4. I feel the included carrying case is too small considering the bulkiness of the power adapter. In all, these are all minor issues with available workarounds which I hope Asus can possibly address with a firmware update (assuming it's supported). So, I would still heartily recommend this product if portability and utility is what you're looking for. ... show more

  • I researched a great deal, and had steep qualifiers... this one rose to the top.
Before getting to the device itself, the company selling the device, Galactics passed the normal PERFECT service I get from Amazon. I usually try to buy things that are fulfilled by Amazon just to ensure (better my chances) of a well packed, working product. Galactics went over and beyond. Not only was the shipping fast, (ordered on Monday evening, had on Tuesday)...which I suspect because we are both in GA, but it was perfectly packed and I could tell it was handled with care. The device... well... it took me days to find the perfect projector. I had so many things I wanted it to do: 1) Battery powered 2) Computer based resolution, (at least 768 horizontal) 3) Short throw 4) Audio out 5) Multiple input 6) Bright enough What I got was something far greater. This unit is small and compact, comes with a nice carrying case. While the menu system leaves some to be desired, it is very functional and allows for some wonderful features. I had a spare wireless dongle hanging around, plugged it in, and found myself creating a connection to it in ways I had not anticipated. Home schooling our children, this now has become an electronic white board, at a fraction of the cost. I could connect PLEX to it using an old android tablet with NO adapter needed. I will be looking for an AirPlay adapter soon so I can throw my iPhone to it. The audio is actually far superior to what I expected. It will not power a backyard movie night, but it will fill a conference room. Speaking of backyard movie night... that was the main reason for getting this, (and so I could stop borrowing my friend's projector). We camp a lot and go outside in our backyard for movie night. So far, setting up for movie night has been a royal pain, and the things needed to bring with us when camping was enough to have us think twice, (yes we camp... without technology, but sometimes, it is nice to watch a movie with the fam under the stars when the ghost stories have ended). This has simplified things wonderfully. With our Amazon Tap, we bring this, the Tap, one cable and the Epson screen, (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004OBYYWG/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_67), we have everything we need that can be carried by one and setup in under a minute...yes... The battery life has not been fully tested. When camping, we usually bring a portable battery supply to charge things, we have adapters to charge this if needed. So far, we have been able to watch a full length movie, (roughly 2 hours) and play a few video games on the Xbox One and the battery meter showed half full. I suspect the lower half will drain faster, but it gave us about 135 minutes of display at full power before we turned it off, and it still had power. I will test it one night when we backyard camp so I will know what to expect when traveling with it. I like that it can be mounted.. Buy yourself a small mini-tripod, you will need it. They rate this at 800 lumens. I have not the equipment to test this, but I do work with several projectors both lower than and above this rating between work and church and home. This thing is by far the BRIGHTEST battery powered projector out there. I have had or used at least 7. It was one of my stipulations, had to be bright enough to not need to turn the lights off when using. In my conference room, all lights on, this thing is a jewel, everyone can see everything, and with the native resolution being so high, (for a portable projector), words were crisp. Only complaint, the menu system. It is not very user friendly. The manual is appropriate to get one started, but the full manual can be downloaded from the projector, or displayed on the projector if you desire. I am VERY pleased with this purchase, very pleased. It will get a lot of use. ... show more

  • Threw It In the Woods
I am so frustrated trying get this projector to connect wireless until I finally gave up. I was upset but I finally hit the ceiling when my ASUS laptop stopped recognizing it and the last few times I’ve tried I can’t get it to connect with the HDMI to my laptop. I threw $500 in the woods and it felt great. ... show more

  • set up quickly and show a great picture in a moderately light room--big hopes and expectations
This projector fulfilled my dreams after several months of searching, purchasing other products and failing to find a match for my needs. I wanted a light weight, portable projector that would work off of my iPhone, set up quickly and show a great picture in a moderately light room--big hopes and expectations. I tried the new Sony, and it was a total failure--dim images, poor technology integration, very poor performing app interface. I tried the Amazon DB power, and it was just cheap--I couldn't read any text on the screen. The Asus is totally great! It throws out very sharp, clear, bright images. It is very small and light and easy to set up quickly. The ultra short throw is fabulous. I put the Asus on a small table about five feet or less from the screen, and it makes a big, clear image. That saves a lot of space in the room, and you don't have to worry about people walking in front of it or knocking it around. It warms up fast and is ready to go shortly after you turn it on. I don't worry about turning it off and on because it is so quick. In one of my regular settings I don't need to turn the lights off. In another room with plenty of daylight, I turn off the lights and adjust the blinds and still get a functional image. Words show up sharp and clear. I recommend that you don't even try to work off the battery. It takes the image quality and brightness way down. But that's okay with me because the whole package is so small and light that I can carry a power cord without much extra weight. Because of the ultra short throw, I find that a short adaptor cord usually works fine without the need to carry a big orange cable around. I add a Bose speaker to the system for great sound when I want to show a YouTube. I use a headphone adaptor to connect the projector and speaker because there are always complications with bluetooth when there are other devices, such as my hearing aids, in the vicinity. I prefer a smooth presentation with no tech glitches. All the little connectors and cords fit into the case with the projector, except for the extra wall extension cord. So all I carry is the projector case, the Bose speaker and an extension cord. It all fits into a shoulder bag. The projector has all the connections I need--HDMI is the big one for me. The projector works really great with my iPhone through the HDMI. Be sure you use the Apple digital AV adaptor, or nothing will work properly. Do not use third-party adaptors with iPhone! The Apple adaptor makes everything work perfectly with the iPhone. I strongly recommend purchasing the little Manfrotto stand that screws into the bottom of the projector. It makes it very stable and you can adjust the throw easily. This projector is small but mighty. It would be great for throwing a big picture on a wall for viewing movies at home. I love it and would recommend it to anyone who needs a small, lightweight projector for informal settings or even on-the-go business needs. ... show more
