Frequently asked questions

The HTC VIVE Base Station 2.0 can support a play area of up to 7 meters diagonally, which provides users with a maximum space of approximately 20 by 20 feet to enjoy room-scale VR experiences. For optimal performance, a minimum setup of 2x2 meters is recommended.

The HTC VIVE Base Station 2.0 is designed to work with VIVE Pro, VIVE Pro Eye, VIVE Cosmos Elite, and Valve Index VR headsets. Compatibility with other headsets is not guaranteed as the base station uses SteamVR tracking technology specific to these devices.

For a basic room-scale setup, you will need at least two HTC VIVE Base Stations. For larger play areas or to enhance tracking accuracy, up to four base stations can be used.

Yes, each HTC VIVE Base Station 2.0 comes with a standard wall mount and screws for installation. Additional mounting solutions such as tripods or clamp mounts can be purchased separately if preferred for your setup.

Should I Buy It?

If you're in need of a reliable VR base station and are prepared to handle a potential initial hiccup with defects or the absence of mounting hardware, this Base Station 2.0 could be a good purchase. Its performance in tracking and compatibility with VR setups, once operational, is praised. However, take note of the higher cost and be ready for potentially buying additional accessories like a mount or a longer power cord.

  • Good tracking, soft hum.
Edition: Base Station 2.0
Works as advertised with a BSB2 VR HMD. They do make a soft hum while active

  • Works Flawlessly!
Edition: Base Station 2.0
Works as advertised! Had this thing for around 2 months and it has worked flawlessly. I use it for Full-Body Tracking and have a 1 Base Station set up, everything works and tracks perfectly. Obviously i cannot turn around to where the Base Station cannot track, but spinning around only makes me lose tracking for a second. So if you were thinking about starting out with a one Base Station setup or cannot afford two, you wouldn't be missing out on much! Also this Base Station did not come with a wall mount, so make sure to buy some for it. ... show more

  • Good when it works
Edition: Base Station 2.0
I ordered two 2.0 Base stations and they arrived in good time, I was very pleased with how fast the shipping was. as I opened the package though I was very disappointed with how it was packed. One flimsy strip of bubble wrap and that was it. The base stations could easily freely move around in the box they were shipped in. I tested both and only one works. I'm surprised that even one works. as for the other one I plug it in and it seems alright for about a minute. it does the usual LED flashing blue then turn green. after that though it flashes red signifying hardware failure. The working one works great though tracks perfectly and I have had no issues with it. just really disappointed in how Amazon shipped these. ... show more

  • No mount and cord is shorter
Edition: Base Station 2.0
Like other reviews have stated there is no mount. You will have to buy a stand or mount separate. The cord is also a lot shorter (maybe about 5 feet) than the one that came with my Steam VR set. So plan accordingly. It is steamVR compatible. If this is your 3rd+ base station when you first start steamVR you may get notified that you need to change the channels on the base stations. The steamVR popup window will guide you through this process. If they add the mount and increase the length of the cord. I will raise it to 5 stars. This base station is $50 more than it is on the steam store (but at least it is available). edit: I had a mechanical failure under a year. HOWEVER vive replaced it for free and even has a recycling program for the old broken one. Because of this I am raising it to 5 stars for the time being (I will lower it back to 4 if this one dies under a year as well). ... show more

  • iffy quality, missing parts, inferior parts, packaging is very sub-par
Edition: Base Station 2.0
Mine were scratched up and didn't have the film to prevent it that others come with, and beyond that, these are about 30% overpriced compared to a number of other options, and offer fewer features. you get no wiring to plug them into your computer, and even the power cable is cheaper and angled sideways, resulting it unnecessary strain, even if it's less obstructive to other plugs than others would be. as the cherry on top, there's no mounting bracket, so if you get these, you'll also need one of those. it's a standard camera screw, I believe, but mine is still printing out (thank the fact that patents end for 3D printers, am I right?) I think it's supposed to be laser based, so I hope these scratches don't affect its accuracy. UPDATE: one was DOA. I suggest you look at a different one. ... show more
