I have bleached hair that has always been very porous and holds color too long for my liking. When I use color I first dilute it with conditioner and apply all over for a pastel look. I absolutely love this company. Their customer service is astoundingly responsive and kind, their love for animals and making a quality vegan product is super important, and the product they make smells great and works great. Too great. Like, it'll never, ever, ever come out. Ever. I hate my hair color and I've used clarifying shampoo for two months and it's still screaming red. I'm currently bleaching it and I have about an inch of outgrowth of my regular hair. I will cut it off if the bleach doesn't work. I've wanted to go red for a long time but will never bleach or treat my hair so this seemed like a fun way to experiment. I got the Ginger Flare color and tried a test strip of hair for an hour then rinsed it out. I didn't notice any difference in color or texture so went all in and put the entire bottle in my hair and left it in for 3-4 hours. I rinsed it out with cold water and went to bed. I did not have any staining in my tub but USE AN OLD PILLOWCASE OR TOWEL. I used an old one and it was very orange in the morning and a little soaked through onto my pillow cover. Take the warnings seriously and wear dark or old clothes the first day or two. The dye seems to come out fine in the wash but don't risk it. It was super red in the morning but after a hot shower the color toned down a lot. I really like it. My hair is normally medium to dark brown and the color change was noticeable but somewhat subtle. I would say it's comparable to the example pictures they gave for dark brown hair, just a little less saturated. When my hair is wet or sweaty there can be a very small amount of color bleed but it's very light. I'm not wearing nice white shirts but everything else seems fine. Now for the reason I'm only giving it 4 stars: It's only been in a few days and the color seems to be fading already (despite barely washing out in the shower anymore). To me this isn't an issue because I wanted to try something short term but I think others may want it to last longer. That being said, if you take steps to maintain it like leaving it in even longer at the start, only washing your hair with cold water, or if your hair is treated/lighter, it will probably last much longer. I really like trying this product and would recommend it to anyone wanting a short term change, but for some it might not last long. ... show more

So according to my purchase history I have been using this color (ish) for 5+ years and they have made some not amazing changes over the years. So It started out as Purple Rain which was an amazing color, a very deep purple that only stayed purple long. It didn’t bleed too bad and washed off non hair surfaces pretty easily. It also would fade to a nice magenta after a while. Actually hydrated my hair, was easy on the skin and smelled amazing. So a year or so ago they changed the formula and the name to “Purple AF” which honestly is much less purple. - Not only is it a purple on the pinker side it fades to pinkish much quicker, like 2 washes, than it used to. - I figured they use less blue now because generally blue on its own washes out a lot faster. But there is a much higher red/pink concentration here than I would like. - Additionally this stuff is much less skin/or accidentally eye friendly. It will itch on the skin/scalp if left on for the same amount of time (45 minutes +) as the old formula. If you get it in the eyes they will burn AF (maybe that's where they were going with the AF). -It will dry out my hair pretty badly now to the point I have to add extra moisturizer after I rinse this out. -Now it doesn’t smell as good at all, more of a “meh” smell. I was hoping they would change back or maybe it was a bad batch but over a dozen bottles (year and half) later and it is still not as purple and not as skin friendly as it used to be. I used to be a dye ( ;) pun intended) hard Arctic Fox fan but I have to say now I am starting to try some other brands in hopes they are what this used to be. ... show more

When we first applied it to my newly bleached hair, it came out a weird red color and we were a little worried what color it would come out. After 2 washes and letting it fade to its color, it turned out beautifully and I've had so many compliments! Love it.

Unless I have processed my hair super recently, I know this black dye is not really going to keep well or stay long. But I do like using it to freshen up my black without putting harsher dye on my hair. I have blonde roots so it also does pretty good at quickly getting those covered for a bit. Smells good, and does do a good job at keeping my hair really dark between my full on dye sessions, but will wash out/fade quicker than you’d think (I’d imagine super quick if you wash your hair more that once or twice a week) ... show more

The color is so vibrant. It’s fuchsia at first. It’s lovely as it fades. I’ve gotten tons of compliments. The color only lasts for about two weeks. I spend a lot of time in the sun and wind which fades it pretty quickly. Also, a hot iron makes the color disappear pretty fast. And of course hair washing makes it fade. Nevertheless, I’m happy with it overall and just reapply when I’m ready for another pop of color. I’ve recently purchased the teal and the “Frozé” colors too, and can’t wait to try them. My hair is naturally white, so I’m not bleaching before applying the color. ... show more
