Description

API MELAFIX Freshwater Fish Bacterial Infection Remedy soothes the transition from store to home by reducing the risk of your fish developing a disease. The fish you bought may already carry a disease. Disease is often difficult to detect, particularly in its early stages. Treat bacterial infections in your fish and reduce the risk of spreading illness to other fish with API MELAFIX Freshwater Fish Bacterial Infection Remedy. Bacterial diseases are caused mostly by dirty aquarium conditions and the addition of infected fish. Fish that are injured and have open wounds are especially susceptible, even in seemingly clean tanks. Bacterial infections, like fin and tail rot, eye cloud, pop eye, body slime and mouth fungus destroy tissue and other organs, and if left untreated, can cause death. API MELAFIX Freshwater Fish Bacterial Infection Remedy is an all-natural antibacterial treatment that heals open wounds, treats bacterial infections and promotes re-growth of damaged fins and tissue, usually within a week. Just add 5 ml per 10 gallons of aquarium water. It will not adversely affect the biological filter, alter the pH or discolor the water. For effective treatment, dose infected fish daily for 7 days, and continue afterward if necessary. Dose new fish daily for 3 days. Remove activated carbon from filter before use, if possible. With API aquarium products, it’s easy to keep a beautiful saltwater, freshwater or reef aquarium. For almost 60 years API has developed premium solutions with proven and effective results for your family and ours. API offers a range of testing kits, water conditioners, and nutritionally superior food, because we’re dedicated to making a better underwater world. They work to provide a safe, hospitable environment for fish such as tropical community fish, cichlids, goldfish and more. At API, we understand the rewards and relaxation of fishkeeping because we have a passion for fish too.

  • Great medicne for all kinds of fish
This medicine really helps get rid of and even prevent ich for me. I have a goldfish tank and getting new ones can be hard because it's not uncommon for them to already have ich or have been exposed to it while in the store. Treating with this when adding new fish can help stop an out brake. Recently I have had both my freshwater and my goldfish tank get ich from new fish after a doing a full daily treatment for 2-3 days I noticed the ich reduced if not disappear all together, then I do a small water change and treat with a little lower dose for several more days. You do have to be careful not to overdose as this can cause fish to die by putting the tank to much out of balance or just from plain over medicating them. It's also not a bad idea to add a little stress coat when treating for ich as ich causes damage to the fish's protective coating. This medicine also helps heal torn and tatered fins and tails. ... show more

  • Good stuff for external injuries or other maladies on fish.
It seems to be identical to the aquarium product except more concentrated and cheaper per gallon of water treated. Just follow the directions and there will be no problem. I deal mostly with oscars and catfish, but this stuff is a great tonic if you see some external problems on the fish. I have big common plecostomus that is always getting into some kind of trouble and his abrasions seem to heal up within days after I apply some of this. ... show more

  • Smell is fine, kind of refreshing plus I new it was ...
This and Pimafix, combined with Medi Koi food at the end, saved my koi. I had fin rot on almost 50 fish, stressed out by unusually hot weather this spring. I never had issues with diseases all these years. My pond is dialed in. But thist came on quick and sudden. I have a 16,000 gal pond, so netting the fish is not an option. I used 64 oz of Melafix and 128oz of Pimafix every 3 or 4 days for a total of 4 treatments each. Water foamed slightly with waterfall and aerator but nothing major. Smell is fine, kind of refreshing plus I new it was there and working. I was able to catch a very sick, 16" fish. I treated him in a small 30 gallon holding tank for 10 minutes following the instructions on the bottle. He was near death but came back out of it and looks good today. I made sure to keep a gallon each on hand and I may add this to the pond every spring now that I'm paranoid. ... show more

  • It's Melafix. It does what Melafix does.
Melafix isn't a medication so much as the fish equivalent of chicken soup (for serious illnesses you should look for real antibiotics, fungicides, etc), but it really helps with recovery and being able to buy in bulk is nice. It helped my goldfish heal up after a series of unfortunate incidents including fin rot and scraping up their whole side jumping out of a hospital tank. Also, it doesn't hurt my snails. The foaming is normal, so don't panic if you see that. Yes, even that much foaming. If you use as directed and NEVER administer Melafix to anabantoids (fish with labyrinth organs, e.g. bettas and gouramis), you'll find it's a very useful thing to have on hand just in case. (When treating your fish for an illness, always remember that the key to helping them recover and keeping them healthy afterwards is to maintain good water quality! All the treatments in the world won't fix a poorly maintained tank.) ... show more

  • For healthy goldfish
I have goldfish in a 1200 gallon pond system. Two of them had developed bumps and another developed what looked to be a scrape on her side. I used this for seven days, as directed, but only treated for a 600 gallon pond, just to make sure I didn't hurt the healthy fish. By day seven, the melaleuca oil had already started healing the fish with problems, and the healing didn't stop there. By day fourteen, the problems had completely subsided. ... show more

  • I've bought this before in a much smaller bottle and would run out after the "week" recommended of usage
I have a large 60 gal aquarium at home. Luckily I hardly have to use this medicine. I've bought this before in a much smaller bottle and would run out after the "week" recommended of usage. Anyhow; I bought this big gallon thinking I can just have it there for when I might needed. Plus in the long run it's cheaper. I don't know what it us but this formula is not working for me. One of my silver dollar fish has white in his face and it's been over the recommended time of usage and my fish is exactly the same. I'm disappointed at spending so much money and not getting any results. ... show more
