Should I Buy It?

This aquarium kit is recommended if you are a novice seeking an all-in-one solution for starting a fish tank. While there are some concerns about the noise level of the filter, the overall positive reception for the convenience and completeness of the kit makes it a good purchase, especially if you plan to house GloFish or tropical fish. It's essential, though, to consider buying additional or higher-quality accessories in the long term.

  • Good buy
Color: Color Fusion Size: 20 gallon
I wish it was bit longer instead of taller. Most of your gallons are in height but the tank itself is beautiful and my sharks love it. Easy to clean and the heater that comes with it works great to keep the water warm. I have no leaks or cracks and the filter that comes with it works good. It is a bit louder than other ones but it puts in work. And had a great waterfall sound. It is decently heavy so be prepared to lift with your knees. All in all it’s a great tank and great size for little tetras and angelfish. ... show more

  • Noisy filter
Color: Color Fusion Size: 20 gallon
This was my second aquarium set. Tank is good, lid is good but the filter makes a lot of noise and replaced it.

  • Great Tank, Like Hinged Hood. Make Sure Pump Tube is Pressed Down Tight.
Color: Tetra Size: 20 gallon
There are several components to this aquarium to review. Firstly, the tank itself. It seems made well, simple enough. Now the hood. It has perforated cutouts for a filter and such. It also has a rectangular feeding hole near the front. There are extra spaces in the back for the light cable and air tubing if so desired. The lights actually have to be placed into their respective slots on the underside of the hood and there is a channel for the cord. The light cord can come out the left or right side, depending on preference. There are also 2 hinges that need to be installed. We found installing them onto the hood first worked easier than putting them on the tank's rim first. Just make sure that the front lip of the hinge clip (shorter side) goes under the tank's inner rim or the hood will not go down flat/sit flush. I like the hood overall, but I am concerned about the light strips constant contact with water. They're not submerged in the water, but they stay wet nonetheless. The heater is not being used, so I can not comment on that. I did stick the exterior temperature strip on the outside of the tank. Now onto the other accessories. The fishnet is basic, simple. Tjere is also some aquarium starter to make tap water safe and a small sample of fish flakes. I highly recommend having your own fish food and aquarium solutions. The decor is sparse. They actually gave me the wrong decor for my tank. I did get the boxwood gravel mat, but the rest of the plants that were in my kit were the "GloFish" plants. They're really bright and cheap looking and are better suited for the GloFish version kit, which they are actually intended for. If I had wanted the GloFish accessories, I would have chosen the GloFish kit. All the rest of the decor in my picture was from my smaller aquarium or ones that I purchased separately. I'm glad I had my own stuff because the included decor is pretty chinsy. Lastly we're onto the "Whisper" filter system. Whisper is a bit of a stretch, more like humming filter. As you can guess this is not as quiet as they make it sound, but it is tolerable... well at least now it is. I did have an issue w/the filter being super loud for days. I was so annoyed because it sounded like a small aircraft taking off in my dining room and it could be heard throughout the house. I almost dropped the star rating severely because of the amount of noise this thing was making. I decided to tinker w/the filter system again to see if I got a defective one or if it was some other issue. I'm glad I did because it's way more quiet now, not a Whisper, but definitely not obnoxious. The tube that presses down into the pump had somehow gotten slightly loose. This was causing vibration and also the pump gear wasn't catching like it should. The result was the filter was super loud. Once I tinkered around and pulled the tube back up and pressed it back in until it clicked, then the noise dropped drastically. Also, I found that I can not use the bio sphere filter type mediums in the back of the filter either because they cause vibration too. The pump comes w/1 Large size filter. Make sure to buy/order more of those too for monthly changes. ... show more

  • Great tank, hard to find replacement lights
Color: Tetra Size: 20 gallon
This is a fantastic tank. I purchased it in September 2022, and set it up in October. I haven't had any issues with it, and the same fish I bought then are still happy and healthy! As of today though (July 30th 2025) the light strip has started to flicker and shut off on its own. I have been looking for replacement lights, but the lights in this hood are very unique and I cannot seem to locate a replacement. After searching Amazon, customer reviews, the Web at large and the company site, I still haven't located this particular light strip. I did call and left a message with customer service as it's after hours over East where their headquarters are. I hope to hear back soon with some options, but am wondering if anyone has had to replace the light and may have other resources? ... show more

  • Good tank, meh accessories
Color: Tetra Size: 20 gallon
I ended up having to replace the filter. It died after just a few weeks. AQ Advisor doesn't like this filter in any case. The lid didn't stay down at first, but I put a book on it and after a while it adjusted and not it is good. There is a hole on the top to feed through, which is a good feature except if, like me, you have a betta or a frog or anything prone to jumping out a hole in the top. I've kept the water level a bit down to prevent that. Functionally, it's a 19 gallon for me. The heater is solid. I have had no issues with that. No matter how nasty cold it gets, and this tank is by a drafty window, the heater can handle it. The plastic plants are nice, and if you want that they're all the plants you will need. They have no bad edges for a delicate betta. But live plants are a lot better for a tank, and make maintenance a lot easier. I'm upgrading to those. Overall, the tank is good, but the accessories are meh, and I would bypass the fake plants right out of the gate if I were to do it again. I'm happy with this tank, but I'm not sure I'd buy it again. If you do go with this, you will need gravel, and for a tropical tank SafeStart, a water conditioner, and an API testing kit. If it's your first tank, look into the nitrogen cycle. Makes things a lot easier. (TLDR, put in an entire bottle of Tetra Aquarium Safe Start Bacteria for Aquariums, 3.38 oz the day after you establish the tank, and follow the bottle's directions for cycling fishless or with two small fish.) It comes with everything else you will need. ... show more

  • Broken filter, bad fake plants, 5 stars!!!
Color: Tetra Size: 20 gallon
So let me start with the bad. The thermometer is a plastic stip that doesn't work. The horrible plastic plants will hurt most fish. The filter was broken and sounded like a bunch of rocks were grinding inside it. And the light is a super basic on off. Now why you should buy this over all the other tanks. That's the tank and the price. The tank is a perfectly functional 20 gal fish tank. It has a nice lid. And I was surprised I liked the heater. All this for less than what a 20 gal fish tank without a lid would normally cost. Seriously just replace the stuff you don't like. The tank alone is worth the price. My tank has been set up for a month now. Photo attached. ... show more
