This hang on back filter is one of a kind. I haven’t had a hang on back like it. It has a giant container to host all the filter media. There is a collection of sponges and bio plastic balls provided. There are also empty boxes to customize the filter media such as adding chemical filtration like carbon or resin. This container is probably 3-4x of the space of a regular 10 gallon hang on back filter, which is nice. Another unique thing about it is that it has an intake pipe similar to a regular hang-on back, but it has this unique outlet that goes underneath the water (instead of the waterfall outlet from a regular hangon back filter). This is a feature I appreciate since I can customize and direct the water flow effortlessly with this outlet. The filter came with a gentle rainfall adapter as well as a duckbill adapter. The duckbill is my choice and can be used to create strong current for CO2 distribution (when directed against a diffuser on the other end) or to agitate the surface when pointed up to create a shimmer effect similar to a wave maker. One can also fit a prefilter sponge to the outlet to baffle the water very easily. The flow adjustment is quite cool. There are two knobs that can be used to regulate the flow to the point the filter is completely turned off for tank maintenance and plant trimming. That is so much more convenient compared to having to unplug the power. The filter is extremely quiet. It is hard to hear it operating until I hold my ear next to it. I’d say it is quieter than any hang on back filters I have owned. Some things worth noting. The large container makes the filter quite unsightly and it also takes a lot of space against the wall. I couldn’t fit it where I used to have a hang on back filter, so it is now hanging on the side of an aquarium and it is not exactly nice to look at. The filter does take a bit of effort to get it running. You will need to follow the instructions closely to fill the container before plugging in the power, and the internals of the filter need to be assembled correctly. Overall, I think it is a filter I can recommend as it does offer some very unique advantages, like the super large containers for filter media and the customizable outlet, over the traditional hangon back filter. This sucker means business! Looking forward to a continuously clean tank. The waterfall on the side is a really nice aeration bonus. The only downsides are that the power cord is only about 3 feet long, and the set up directions were not easy to follow. If I didn’t have aquarium filter experience, I would have been much more frustrated. ... show more
