  • Pretty hard to ask for anything extra at this price
Style: 1 Bike
I have no real complaints about this rack. It was easy to assemble, fits well on the car and holds bikes very securely. Folds up nice and flat against the back of the car and can tilt to move the bike out of the way (better for hatchbacks/suvs). The rack snaps into the 1.25" or 2" hitch receive tightly and you can lock it to the car for theft prevention. The arm that holds the front wheel in place even has a keylock on it (though it can easily be defeated by removing the front wheel, which can be done without tools on most modern bikes...I wouldn't trust the rack for that). My 27.5" mountain bike fits great, as does my 29". There is even a groove for skinny road bike tires. You can adjust the length or height for different wheelbases and wheel sizes. The single-bike version says the weight limit is around 40lbs, so I think an e-bike or heavy downhill setups would be pushing it. It doesn't rattle (much) or move around, or really have any loose parts once it's set up properly. It's very well made and low profile. Only (minor) complaint I have is that the straps to hold the wheels down to the rack are made of a plastic that looks and feels like it may fade in the sun, and possibly get brittle over time. I have also noticed the triangle shaped piece for screwing the rack in the receiver hangs very low, I have scraped it on low entrances but I also have a low car. Trucks and SUVs probably won't have that problem. I have left it on my car in the rain several times and have also noticed a little bit of rust forming; not a big drawback but I'd say keep it dry if possible. I try not to leave it on my car unless I'm using it which helps prevent these issues. But if you don't care, or usually park in a garage then it would be fine. Overall this is a really good rack for a modest price. You can pay 3x this for a big brand system but I honestly don't see what you'd really be gaining by doing that. It's a humble piece of equipment, looks great and works great. ... show more

  • Solid construction & safe
Style: 2 Bike
It took a few hours for my husband and I to put this together; we wanted to make sure we read the directions a few times to understand the names of the parts referred to and any snafus. For the most part, directions were clear & diagrams helpful. Previous reviewers' comments were also very helpful re: the stiff red straps for the wheels and positioning the front wheel base in the correct direction. But, we came across 3 snafus of our own. First, we had trouble inserting the front wheel part into the frame- metal against metal. We found that by waxing (from a candle) the sides of the front wheel insert, it slid more easily into the frame. Our second problem had to do with the locking mechanism. It didn't seem to function as the directions indicated- clockwise, counter-clockwise, locking, etc. This was a frustration, but not a deal breaker. We installed & secured our 2 bikes as directed, putting the largest one on first. Neither my husband nor I are very strong, but it was fairly easy to install the bikes and they seemed secure after a short trial run around the block. Our third snafu was more of an issue for us. When we tried to remove the entire rack from the hitch, it would not budge. We followed insertion directions & didn't put the rack in too deeply beyond the silver button as described in the manual. But we had visions of having to live with the rack forever in place or pay to have it removed somehow. My husband spent some time searching for a video to help & was able to find one that better explained the locking mechanism & how to detach the rack from the hitch. We were finally able to get the rack off fairly easily, but it does take two people & some slight rocking. Hopefully, this process will get easier as we use the rack over time (fingers crossed). The rack is made from solid metal; the thick plastic straps are tricky, but secure the wheels well; the spur arms to secure bikes on the top work well, and we love the ability to move the rack up when bikes are not on it. We did add a few of our own bungee cords to keep things secure, but they really may not be needed. But we feel better safe than sorry. We have used it twice for short distances at speeds no higher than 45mph, but I suspect it will feel just as safe at higher speeds. The bikes seem safe and well-secured. There are no rattling noises from the rack or the bikes. We look forward to using this well-constructed rack for years to come & we can strongly recommend it... but read the directions, re-read the directions, watch the videos, read the directions again, and again, and take your time. ... show more

  • Update: not recommend
Style: 2 Bike
Update: had a chance to take it out for a spin over the weekend. The 1 inch or so square tubing is grossly under size. The bikes bounce around like ping pong balls. It's not a matter of if, but when it will break and to top it off they drill holes in the tube. Not recommend. First impressions: Pro: 1. Looks good. 2. Light weight. 3. Works. 4. Hitch mount is decent. Con: 1. Folding pivot point is loose--- RATTLE. 2. Hold down arms won't lock in down/folded position---RATTLE. 3. Putting a lock in the hold down arms doesn't make a lick of sense to me. Overall an "OK" bike transport hitch. ... show more

  • Minor details to be aware of...............
Style: 2 Bike
Appears to be a good design. The assembly instructions are NOT in English. However, assembly is simple enough that just looking at drawings and the shipping box photos will suffice. Comes with the usual cheap tools. My first shipment had a defective part and I had to return for replacement. Original shipment was fast, (PRIME), replacement came USPS, it took many days to receive it. Will update this review in a couple of months to see if this product holds up. ... show more

  • Great rack, better support
Style: 1 Bike
The 1bike rack has been working like a charm for 2 years. Easy to use regularly, study, safe and good looking. Not a single issue on heavy utilization. I can only recommend it. But the BEST part of it it has been the customer support. I have reached out a couple of times since we bought it with some questions and they are really responsive and helpful. This last week, the clamp for the wheel stooped working and the guys at Allen have provided a solution in just one day. I cannot ask for better product support. Great product and value for your money. Outstanding customer support. ... show more
