Description

Compared to others this was a very good value. The instructions and videos on YouTube enabled me to install it within 1 hour with very little experience. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was that the unit is high quality, and the install kit that comes with it is also quality. The instructions are intuitive, easy to follow, and even have pictures. It took me all of 15 minutes to install the unit on my 4 ton Geocomfort geothermal furnace. I installed this primarily so that my generator would run my hvac during power outages. Well, it works perfectly. After I installed it, I hooked my generator up and ran a test, and the unit ran great. Also, now when my compressor kicks on, it's quiet and smooth, and the lights don't dim. It makes sense that this would also extend the life of a compressor. I have also heard that customer support with this company is superb, I can't comment on that because I haven't had to call yet. Installed on a Lennox 4 ton and dropped start up amperage by over 60%, 5 star now , but time will tell if soft start holds up and longevity. Worked on elevators for 30 years and our soft starts on hydraulic elevators lasted for decades. This seems to be the same concept and build, just on a smaller scale. As for as installation a piece of cake , the only change I would make is in instructions you are told to take compressor load wire off factory starter contact in early steps then later on down the instruction procedure you told where to put it and can be a little confusing. I would rather the instructions telling you where to put wire once you take it off and not later on. I could see where some may get a lil off track with their method. I had to read twice before understanding what and where that wire was to go . An a/c tech. would have realized right away where the wire would have to go, but not us novices. With my electrical background I knew it had to go somewhere and I rather once I take a wire off and it has to go somewhere else let that be the next step in instructions. ... show more

I found wiring it up a bit confusing as the wire colors were different on my AC unit but after about 45 minutes we got it connected and it seemed to work perfectly. I purchased this soft start because during power outages I use a 12000 watt whole house generator and my AC unit had problems starting up at times. After connection and testing, it has no problem starting up when on generator power. The other thing I noticed is that my electric bill has actually started going down even though its still hot outside and I have done nothing different inside. Maybe its because it dosen't need a huge load of power at start up anymore for the compressor, I'm not sure but I am very happy that I purchased this soft start, it does exactly what its supposed to do. ... show more

I’ve been wanting a soft start for a couple years now and finally bought one. The AirGo had a much better price than others and I read great reviews on it. I have a 13000 watt generator and it ran my a/c and everything else but when the unit kicked on my lights blinked and the tv goes black then resets and comes back on. I also needed to run one extra portable a/c when electricity goes out. I researched for weeks and studied the wiring over and over and even asked a HVAC man about wiring. Worked very well, I have zero experience doing alectrical work on A/C units, but following the instructions was easy. My A/C is a 3.5 ton central. The label on my A/C states that it has a LRA of 109ah, but when I measured it before installing the soft start unit, it read 122ah, so I went ahead and installed the soft start. The very first time I started the A/C, the compressor started, but the fan was running backwards (inverted), so I realized I made a mistake, and I has plugged the brown wire from the soft start unit, to the fan connector on the capacitor. So I plugged it to the right connector, and the unit started again, and this time the fan was running as it was supposed to. The soft start does have a learning/training period, for the first 4-5 starts, the amperage keeps going lower. So my A/C was pulling 121ah before the soft start, and then it pulled 56ah the very first time after installing the soft start. By the 4th cycle, the amperage was 46ah at start. I have uploaded a video, this is day 3 and the A/C is working fine, cooling the house as it was and should. Although I do not hear "softer" start when the compressor starts, I hear a loud click like a relay, and then the compressor starts with the normal thump it always did, but the amperage is definitely lower. I wonder if the much more expensive soft start from microair would have lowered the amps even further, but for a lot less money, this one is working and I hope it will last for quite some time. ... show more

Recommend and installed by a professional HVAC technician. Worked for 24 hours, then died - no power supply light on. It's tough in Florida in summer when your AC goes out. Tech came back and removed this unit so I could have AC again. The internal capacitor seems to have exploded as there was oily liquid on the underside if the unit. Cheap junk. ... show more
