Have not had this product on the lake yet but seems to be made well and I don't anticipate any issues with the wind. (Update: setup was very sturdy in high winds) The umbrellas ribs are made of square metal tubing rather than most that are wood or thinner round tubing. I decided to add two additional seats and utilize the existing pedestal base and pole. Pole diameter of the umbrella is 1.5 inches outer diameter, the same as the inner diameter of the pedestal pole. I cut 21 inches off the bottom pole of the umbrella to get the height I thought was bet for this application. You will have to push a small roll pin from the previous application towards the outide of pedestal pole to accommodate bottom half of the umbrella pole sliding in. I inserted bottom half of the pole all the way to the bottom of pedestal tube. Before inserting pole I used a sharpie to mark the plunger on the pedestal pole. I kept the lever up until the pole was completely seated then released the lever to transfer the sharpie mark to the umbrella pole as a reference for drilling holes. I drilled the proper size hole, which is a 1/4 inch drill bit for this pedestal so that it would lock the pole in place and not turn. If doing this, make sure the holes you drill are large enough to let the plunger button fully seat. I also added additional holes to raise it up or down. I tilted the umbrella back so that when opened it was centered up with middle of boat and made additional holes with the same process to lock it in from rotating in pedestal pole base. The pedestal pole I had used has a 3/4" threaded rod that goes into floor base. This setup had very good support and minimal movement when umbrella is installed. The bottom half of umbrella pole is threaded and has a secure fit to the upper assembly of umbrella. This setup was done on a 1991 Bass Tracker Panfish 16' with Springfeild marine pedestal post and base for reference. Somewhat of a tight fit but great for the kids or even two adults in the scorching summer heat. Hope this helps anyone out there looking for ideas on adding some shade to their boat. I couldn't find alot of ideas or pics for this type of setup and maybe this post will save others the trouble of figuring how to add some shade. Great price for umbrella and better quality than others I researched for the price.

This was just what I was looking for, for our back deck! I'm glad I got the smaller one - the 7.5ft umbrella. This is plenty big enough for our smallish table that seats 6 people and our deck. Any larger, and it would take up too much space out there. Before this, we'd had a much smaller, beach umbrella! I chose the cream color one - this practically matches the new peachy-cream paint-work on our deck, and tones nicely with the new orange floral chair covers. The umbrella provides shade but not dark shade - it filters the sunlight, but keeps the deck looking bright and sunny, which I'm actually very pleased with. I loved the ease of assembly, and I love the ease of putting the umbrella up or down, with a few turns of the crank handle. (So much easier than our previous beach umbrella!) I also like the fact that it has a strap to keep the umbrella tied up when not in use. I used to have to take our previous umbrella down completely in rain, wind or storms. Now (so far), I've been able to leave this umbrella up, but closed and strapped down during rain and wind, and it's been just fine. (I will of course store it inside during the winter). The canvass material seems very durable and the frame seems very sturdy. I imagine this will last a long time.

7/11/20 update: the umbrella still looks great and no fading in the 115F weather. I haven’t tilted it since the review. I use to to provide shade to a corner of the backyard that I use for lunch breaks or early evening wine. It protects from the birds flying overhead. I rinse it every couple weeks to keep it looking nice. I’d recommend this umbrella for its beautiful colors and coverage from the sun. The ties on it help prevent it from blowing over from the monsoons. It fell over once but it got a bit loose in the cast iron stand. I wish it came in 6 ft to put under my pergola. Still 4-stars because of the difficult tilt mechanism that’s inset rather than extending outward. I like the umbrella and the color. The pole is very sturdy. The crank is sturdy. The only ISSUE is the button to tilt it is SO Difficult to press. I broke fingernails. After the third tilt, I don’t tilt it. The worst designed mechanism I’ve ever had in an umbrella. The button is inset so it makes it more difficult to press. If they fixed the button to be more convex, it would be a perfect umbrella.

This Umbrella is pretty nice. Its a good size for us, probably the largest one we have had, at I think a 9 ft diameter. It looks nice. The finish of the pole and crank are holding up, I like the color, its sort of a bronze brown. We got the blue or turquoise model, and the color has held up pretty well. It may have been a bit deeper in color but not much. The button you press to angle the umbrella works ok, you do have to press and then push the top section to get it to move towards the direction you want, that seems not to be the easiest to do but it does work, and you want to make sure you do not pinch your fingers or hand at the pivoting section of the pole when you do that. The air vents at the top do what they are supposed to do when it is breezy, but if its really windy I put the umbrella down. If a hurricane is coming I take it down completely because it will blow over with the table it is in, with the weighted stand still firmly attached. This was a good choose for us.

I am surprised at how much I love this umbrella. I am in a windy area but this umbrella has held its own. Great value, great shade, easy to use, sturdy and well made. Definitely recommend
