I replaced the plastic cam and gear on my GE water softener at the same time I replaced the valve motor with a stripped plastic drive gear. Both new parts are metal and superior to the plastic OEM parts. Fairly easy to replace both. The cam was a bit snug going on. A little lube or a light tap with a rubber mallet will do it. Just remember it's going onto a plastic part so don't use too much force. VERY IMPORTANT - you must reuse the small plastic ring on top of the old plastic gear. It's actually a bearing and has to be in place or the new parts will not mesh properly. I almost threw mine away because it looks like just a part of the original plastic cam. Overall, very pleased with product.

Gave this a 4 star as it does not come with the rotor (blue plastic ring) which is probably a 10 cent part. When replacing the cam gear assembly DO NOT throw away the blue plastic ring. When you get the new cam gear assembly on, you will need to put the plastic ring back on exactly as it was or your water softener will not work. I haven't found a seller on Amazon (or anywhere else other than G.E.) who sells it. Just be sure the motor gear and the cam gear are the same material (metal is best) or one will grind up the other. Otherwise the seller was great and I got exactly what I ordered.
