It does the job to soften the water without bad taste. You can buy some water Ph test strips and test your water to see how hard or soft it is. Florida has hard water. Hard water causes Build up of scale and minerals on pots, pipes, in plastic holding tanks, in water heaters and scale spots on shower doors, stainless/chrome fixtures and sink. Soap doesn’t lather up or feels like it’s not coming off. Great in our RV. With two of us, no washer, regular showers and water use about 30-45 days between regeneration cycles. Our water was extra hard but within a week it was way down in ph and softer. Better yet the regeneration of softener only takes 2 boxes of regular table salt to regenerate the softener every 30 to 45 days. Just use test strip to keep up with softness.

Being an RV'er in the southwest I stumbled on THE hardest water there is and couldn't survive another day without a softener. ALL my research pointed to the On The Go brand so I ordered up and had it in 5 days during Christmas rush! DO YOUR RESEARCH! Just running water through a softener wont solve all your water problems. Where I'm at the water is salty well water so a softener accentuates this but stripping Mg/Ca and replacing with Na... GREAT for bathing and cleaning but no way can I drink it! Thoughts vary on drinking soft water but this water is too salty to determine if I can. Took a few minutes to hook up and flush. Then let run through your plumbing. IF you're RV'ing in the SW or other places with very hard water note you can have build up in your plumbing that will take some time to clean out with soft water. May need a vinegar rinse to really clean out. Over all my research indicated using soft water is great for RV plumbing and especially the water heater and this is your best option for a portable version. Get this size for 1 or 2 people.

We have been very pleased with the results we've had with this water softener. It is easy to regenerate. We check the water quality about every 2 weeks to see how hard the water has become since the last regeneration. Once the hardness level is starting to spike up we follow the instructions to regenerate the water and we are back to soft water in no time.

I cannot say enough good things about this. I don't have a water softener at my home but after buying a new RV I wanted to insure we had good water quality when traveling to different parks. Let me tell you. The difference is night and day. Before setting this up I thought the water where we were staying was good until I hooked this up. I would never not have one on my RV after using this one. The set up was a breeze and came with all the appropriate fittings and O rings. The provided tester was spot on when comparing it to other testers
