  • Works for pools, but you must wait and be okay with a high power bill
Alright so I’ve had this for a month now after doing so much research on how to effectively heat my 1000 gal above ground pool. It was nearly impossible to find the info I needed, so I decided to give this a shot. When after 24 hours the pool hadn’t even heated a full degree, I was ready to box it up and send it back. There were mornings I’d go out and check only to see it had dropped in temp over night. It was discouraging, but I didn’t have any other option. So I decided to wait. Finally after an ENTIRE WEEK, my once 65 degree pool hit 84 degrees. My target was 86. It finally got there, but the downside is that my power bill is going to be over $500. So if you can afford that and are willing to wait for it to heat your water, this electric heater is worth it. Now that we’ve reached our target temp, I hope it doesn’t cost as much to maintain, especially with August and September being our hottest months in the Bay Area, because the hot temps definitely help. I would do a solar cover but our pool is covered by a sail shade and lots of trees. We do keep a tarp over the pool when not in use (because a proper cover that actually fits has also been seemingly impossible to find). At first I was worried about the probe touching the wall of the pool but it’s not an issue. I do remove it when we use the pool. I just unplug it and hang it in a towel hook. ... show more
