  • We’ve loved zero water but ……
Style: 22-Cup Dispenser + Filter, 2-Pack
We have really enjoyed zero water. It comes with a way to test the water although not really sure what it’s testing or what the particles are that it makes up. I need to explore that a little bit with the company. Just because you have high particles doesn’t mean that it’s bad water. When I took reverse osmosis water, which read at almost 0 on the meter, and added some quality Redmond real salt to the water, which just adds extra minerals. It reads in the 200-300 range. So the question becomes what is it actually picking up on. Somethings may be contaminants, but some may just be minerals. Anytime, you have stripped water such as reverse osmosis, or even zero water, you need to remineralize it, it’s actually quite important for your health. We sprinkle just a little pinch of Redmond real salt or you can use Himalayan, to remineralize. There’s also some drops you can get it, but water needs to be charged in order to get into the cells in the minerals help do that. We are electric beings and it’s critically important to hydration include the minerals. Zero water filter system, remove the common scary garbage that’s in the water today, but you do need to remineralize it after it’s been purified. We bought this because of listening to some podcasts that did some independent testing on several different filter systems. Zero water was shown to removes very concerning things…. Without getting into details, and an incredibly affordable price. Downside - I have had some issues with both of the units I’ve purchased. We keep one out in our RV and use it to travel with with some back up filters. And both filters have had issues with not flowing with a new filter. One of them wouldn’t flow at all when it was brand new, and the other one did a couple different batches of filtering and then wouldn’t flow any longer. I called customer service. They were super helpful, and they said the filters are prone to having air bubbles in the filter. All you have to do is leave it on the reservoir with a little bit of water, and squeeze the filter to release the air. You’ll see some air bubbles come up and then it will flow appropriately. Both my filters are working great now. I love the shape. This unit replaced a baby Berkey for us. Berkey has had some mixed reviews recently in independent testing, and I’m in the Wellness and Cancer arena where the water really matters. I have sense learned that Berkey filters are being copied/mimicked my some unscrupulous companies, so it’s really important that you get the filters directly from the manufacturer or someone that you trust because there’s lotta knock off brands that actually don’t work. They are selling them as Berkey filters but they aren’t. Sadly, several of them are on Amazon. So be sure if you are using Berkey filters that you’re getting them from somebody that is authorized or direct. We opted for the zero water because of the size of the unit and because it fits a little bit better on the countertop and I haven’t had mold issues when storing as I have had with Berkey. I’m not bashing Berkey - if you do your own research, you’ll find that they pass some of the testing really well you just have to make sure that you’re getting an actual Berkey filter. Pretty disheartening people can copy things and miss leave the public but that’s the world we live in. This filter just has been easier to use for us. ... show more

  • Couple Major Design Flaws
Style: 22-Cup Dispenser
So for the most part, this water filter is stellar. The taste of the water takes some getting used to (I primarily drank tap water for years) and tastes almost alkaline. But once you get past that it's ok. Would be much nicer if it filtered faster as well. Takes a while between filling the top and it filtering the water before you can refill the top. So the two major design flaws: When you fill this, YOU NEED IT TO CREATE A VACUUM IN THE PITCHER. If you don't, it will stop filtering correctly. Easiest way to do this is to fill up the top tray, let it filter, then immediately fill the tray again and lift the top off and rotate it so that the air can get out. From there when the top tray is almost done filtering rotate it back and fill the tray all the way up again. DO NOT LET THE TOP TRAY EMPTY AFTER THIS POINT, if you do it'll stop filtering until you repeat the process. This could be fixed by creating a vent at the top that allows air to leave the tank (air cannot be compressed which is what causes the water to stop filtering). Second flaw, the TDS sensor attaches to the spout but there are two contacts that go through the spout and are supposed to test it as it dispenses. The issue with this is that the contacts (at least on mine) do absolutely nothing. This causes the TDS sensor to not function when mounted to it. Each time I have wanted to check the water I have had to remove the TDS sensor and check manually. This could be improved by completely forgoing the probes and just design it so that the TDS sensor is incorporated into the tank so that it can be checked at all times. ... show more

  • ZeroWater is great; this unit is a good size and works well
Style: 22-Cup Dispenser
This is our second ZeroWater unit; I bought the first one as a way of getting deionized water cheaply for some testing work I was doing. Later I brought it home to use for fresh-tasting drinking water. Recently, my wife and I got more serious about avoiding nasty chemicals in our tap water, so we bought this larger one and now use both. This one is larger than the first, so we don't have to refill it as often. (That's the one downside with pitcher-type solutions like this; its a minor nuisance to refill the top reservoir when it runs low.) How long the filter cartidges will last will depend a lot on how hard your tap water is. Ours is moderately soft (it reads ~40-50 on the included ppm meter), and I've yet to have to replace the cartridge on the first unit. I have no idea how much water I've run through it, but have been using it for most of my drinking water for several months now, and the meter still reads zero on the output. If you're in an area with very hard water though, you might be better served with one of the reverse-osmosis units you can get online. The RO part will make the ion-exchange cartridges last longer; just be sure you also get a unit with an activated-carbon filter stage to filter out organic nasties. I'd eventually like to plumb-in an RO unit to our fridge water dispenser, but for now the two Zerowater units are working great and required no installation. ... show more
