  • Works great, but controls are complicated and the manual sucks
Style: CW5200-New Version
This refrigerating chiller is priced practically the same as models that simply circulate water through a heat sink with fans, so it's clearly a bargain. Does it work? In one word, yes... If you're willing to take the time to sit down and figure out the manual, written in extremely approximative English. It took me quite a while to find out the factory password: 50. Without it, you're stuck with the default behavior (lowest temperature is 20C) which is way too high for a CO2 laser. Once you figure out how to enter the factory parameter programming mode (you have to switch it on while pressing three keys simulatenously for 5 seconds: Up, Down and RST, then use the up/down keys to display the password -- 50 -- and SET) you can start updating the F1, F2... parameters. Of course, you need to look at the manual for the meaning of all these. Then, press RST to store the settings. On one hand, it really is a "set it and forget it" device. On the other, it really should not be so hard to configure! But at least you know that the settings won't be changed by accident. There are two error conditions for a variety of failures (temperature out of range, insufficient flow...) and there is a 3-wire port on the back to connect it to some emergency stop on your cutter, it even comes with a connector to wire. Unfortunately the manual contains absolutely no information on the wiring. It should be easy to figure out, but honestly, come on, one diagram and paragraph? Please? The chiller's tank fills up from the top of the unit (make sure to use a funnel!) pulls air from both sides through removable, cleanable filters, and hot exhaust is in the back, which also features barbed inlet and outlet ports, alarm connector, and power connector. TL;DR: You need to read the (poorly translated) manual carefully, but once you get a hang of it, it does a great job at an unbeatable price. The compressor is noisy. ... show more

  • Never worked
Style: CW5200-New Version
DO NOT BUY!!! I’m giving this 1 star because I can’t give it a zero. It never worked. Received the item pretty quickly. Read the directions filled the unit with distilled water and hooked everything up. This is where the simple things ended. The instructions on how to change the factory settings are terrible at best. Once it was figured out using online videos and input from customer service I was able to change some settings. After getting this sorted out the “chiller” wouldn’t get any cooler than room temperature. After discussing with customer service it was determined that the unit did not have refrigerant added from the factory. Since I’m not an HVAC person, I had to once again, watch online videos on how to vacuum and charge the system. So I purchased the pump, gauge, and refrigerant. All of the “savings” by purchasing the unit were erased by these extra components that shouldn’t have been necessary if the chiller would be correct from the factory. I followed the process for vacuuming and charging the system and the unit would still not get any cooler than ambient. I’m guessing the compressor isn’t turning on. Anyway, customer support has been somewhat helpful but I believe they are on the opposite side of the earth because responses were delayed about 12 hours, which made the troubleshooting more complicated. Anyway, I’m done messing with it and will be returning the unit for something that might actually work as intended. ... show more

  • Works great for 60 Watt CO2 Laser Table
I bought this system to replace the fish tank pump that used to operate my "cooling" for my 60 watt CO2 laser table. It works great, the only complaint I have is that it's actually built better than my Laser table, when I applied the new chiller the flow was so high compared to the old pump that it blew all the water lines inside the table off of their connections which were just "slip fit" on, so I dumped about 3 gallons of water inside the table, and then I had to buy hose clamps and clamp everything inside. Overall very happy with the product. The alarms are loud and I know it will protect my system better. ... show more

  • Interesting price point decision
The parts and the design of this chiller are the same as the S&A version. However the quality of construction (tin solder joints here, silver solder in S&A) is evident everywhere. Neither have service ports so both are very difficult to repair. With the S&A at $650 and this at $400 the $250 is more than half way to a replacement unit when they fail. Be aware this ships in "Intelligent" mode which is not likely the mode you what your want for Co2 laser coolant. Default Intelligent mode just keeps the coolant 2°C below the room temperature. ... show more

  • The seller is very honest and helpful
I had an issue with the original chiller that was sent to us. The compressor would not turn on and therefore it would not chill the water. The seller was contacted and they were very nice and easy to deal with. Over a few emails and even a FaceTime live chat, we started out by trying to do some self diagnosing to see if it was something that could easily be fixed on our end, but when we were not getting any results, they immediately shipped out another chiller no questions asked. The new chiller arrived and so far it is working perfectly. ... show more

  • In Flow and Out Flow are inconsistent
The intake has a hard time keeping up with the out. I eventually figured out that the cap for the internal tank wasn't sealing properly and after putting some thread tape on it, it mostly fixed the problem. However, for what you're paying, it shouldn't have this kind of problem so I've dropped the rating I would have given it. Also, the controls are a little ridiculous. ... show more
