I love how everyone says this is easy to setup. I am a seasoned IT professional, and it took me a good ten minutes to figure out how to get past all of the pimping of their cloud service before I got the camera to work. As mentioned in other reviews, you can only use this on 2.4 gHZ wifi network. I have both, so it wasn't an issue hooking it up. Then there was the task of trying it out. The picture is pretty good actually, and the night vision as well. The app is cumbersome and confusing to use. It says you are limited to 6 second videos saves unless you buy and micro SD card for it. I bought a card, put it in the camera. The camera sees it just find as it asked me to format the card. I waved my hand in front of the camera for 30 seconds to test saving to my phone. EVEN AFTER PUTTING A CARD IN, I was still limited to 6 second video clips. Two deliberate attempts to fire the motion detection never alerted my phone nor saved the video. DO NOT BE BULLIED INTO BUYING THEIR CLOUD SERVICES. It's really pricey for what you get, and the camera won't work well enough to even warrant it. Oh, and I scanned the QR code that came with the camera, and it took me to the app that is all in Chinese. I had to search for the app anyway, so that was worthless. I purchased 5 of these cameras and after their latest app update, the cameras are now COMPLETELY USELESS and I have now taken them all down to trash it. You are FORCED to purchase their monthly plan or else you cannot even access your own microsd card footages! You cant even see a preview of the motion activities unless you pay. DO NOT BUY IT!!!!!!!! ... show more

I just returned a YI security home camera with baby monitor because the night vision was horrible as well as the alerts and color kept fading to black and white. I ordered this one, hoping that it would be better(“updated camera”) Lo and behold! SAME PROBLEM WITH THIS CAMERA!! Forget about “customer support!” Practically non-existent. You have to send an “e-mail” and try to explain your problem. I have done this in the past(I have other YI cameras)and received “answers” totally unrelated to my “problem.” Why bother? Usually I “fiddle around” with cameras and try to resolve problems on my own. YI definitely needs to improve on customer service. Guess I will have to “mask up😷”, brave the cold weather, try to avoid “crowds”, and return this camera(I just returned the other camera 2 days ago.) My search goes on... UPDATE: I sent e-Mail to YI Customer Support and received a prompt reply! Several suggestions were made in an effort to resolve the issues I have been experiencing with this camera. None of these suggestions proved to be effective and I informed Customer Support. I was informed that a new camera would be sent (no expense to me😁!) The new camera arrived within a few days. I am upgrading my overall rating of this camera (and YI Customer Service.) I am impressed by this company’s willingness to maintain customer satisfaction.     • Excellent Camera (price range can't be beat)
Ignore any negative reviews. This is a cheap camera that does the job. First super easy setup. Literally took me 5 minutes. Second, it let's you record local to an SD card or pay extra for cloud. Third, while it records 6 secs and notifies you. If you open the app and search the timeline it records much longer (with motion detection on). It works as advertised. Ignore those negative reviews. For 24 bucks it does what you expect. Update: I returned it due my missing the ability to pan and zoom. Since my first Yi was the dome version. I just can't live without the pan and zoom. ... show more

    • works ok. need yi home app (not yi iot app). need sd card for recording
Pro: easy to connect once you download yi home app. put on same 2.4GHz wifi. Once it is paired, you can hook up app to 5GHz wifi and still look at it - you can access it from any wifi anywhere, actually. Camera itself works on 2.4GHz wifi only. Pretty good pictures. Don't need cloud service for either live or recording. Con: not too good at motion detection. Mine pretty much does continuous recording even when set for just medium sensitivity, record on motion detection only. Does NOT work with yiiot app - i was fooled. I did set it up (paired it) using the yiiot app but it won't save the camera name so you can't access it - I think they purposely did that so you would have to use their other app (yi home app). It showed up without any help on the yi home app (guess it was paired correctly). Other: Apparently, the cloud service is good for both. Also, the user account (set up with your email - its mandatory but is free) is the same for both apps. I have both cameras and now have to run 2 apps to see them *sigh*. Mine has a habit of going into night mode (black and white, no color) even in ok light. That is pretty sad. My old camera didn't do that. They do have a setting where you can turn off the night mode but I also want it to work in the dark...*oh well*, guess I'll have to get used to no colors unless the sun is shining in the room. Power cord is 6 feet long, included with separate 5V 1Amp power plug. Microphone works well both ways. App has a setting for only 1 talk at a time OR both can talk at once.     • Disappointing compared to my other YI’s
Not only disappointed in the night vision not being in color like my 2 others, but the app is ridiculous frustrating, and is required to use these cameras. There must’ve been an update to all my cameras due to the Company’s pushing their Cloud Service. I never needed the Cloud to record over a month (and still be able to “complete the motion) using a 32mb card. Now you only get one week, and can only view more then the 3 second clip if you purchase their Cloud Service which is more than the camera each month. No thank you YI ... show more
