  • It’s not meant to spin on its own while the user watches it spin.
Color: Color
Technically, the tri-armed weighted spinners that most of us are accustomed to using are not really fidget tools. They are “Spin & Watch” or if you have OCD, “Spin & Time” devices. If you have super OCD, they are “Spin & Time & Adjust & Fix & Time & Readjust & Time..” devices. But you don’t fidget with them, per se; because it is drawing your attention away from your problems and thoughts, and placing your focus on the device. THIS fidget device IS a fidget tool. I read the same type of reviews on similar fidget tools. Many consumers are disappointed with this item because they expect it to spin by itself for a lengthy time while it is being watched.. Fidget tools aren’t meant to draw your entire focus away from something important and place it on that device. Instead, they are meant to be fidgeted with to keep your hands occupied while you concentrate on something more important. Yes, many autistic kids do enjoy watching a spinner spin. My hand is raised! Shoot, I bought a washer and dryer with clear doors so I could watch my laundry spin! I always enjoyed the laundromat for this reason! But there’s a difference between watching a spinner spin, and fidgeting with a spinner. THIS item is a fidget tool. So many low-rated reviews are disappointed because they don’t spin the way tri-armed spinners spin. I’m not downgrading tri-arm spinners. I have several. But THIS item has earned the right to be called a fidget tool. It allows you to place your focus on your thoughts or projects while drawing your attention away from what your hands are doing. Occasionally, the user will look at it while they are pondering, feel the weight of the device as it spins, listen to the sound of the spin, etc. but they are actually thinking. I can’t explain why fidgeting helps us learn, it just does. Someone wrote a review saying he wasn’t one who used fidget tools. That’s fine! That’s him. Diversity is a beautiful thing. A lot of people can focus on their thoughts, and something like fidgeting is not only a distraction to that person, but teachers who don’t fidget often believe the student can’t learn while he his fidgeting. How can a teacher possibly understand how fidgeting works if they don’t feel the need to fidget? Does this sound familiar: “Stop playing with your coat zipper! Pay attention!” or “Leave your pencil at the top of your desk! Stop rolling it down your desktop onto your lap! See? This is why you are failing! You aren’t paying attention! You play around too much!” Because many neurotypical instructors don’t understand that fidgeting actually helps us learn! However the fidget items back in the 1970s when I was young, aka “Anything we can hold and fidget with” - such as a pen - were not given our complete undivided attention while trying to think, understand, memorize, or solve. They were something to do with our hands while we learned. Does this make sense? So this particular gadget works well when fidgeting. It has two movable parts, and YOU keep the spinner going. I’m telling you, once you begin playing with it while thinking, you will have difficulty putting it down…assuming the reader is a fidgeter. You will discover your own personal way to use this while you are allowing your brain to do its job. There is no right or wrong way to put this to use. But I have every one of these fidget tools, and this is just as beneficial as the others. So, the way I use it is hold the nucleus (the center part that is meant to grasp between thumb and index or middle finger … however you prefer), then spin the entire device by moving my hand back and forth. I also flick one of the two small spin arms so they will spin, also. Or I hold the main arm stationary while spinning the smaller arms. But this just gives you an idea how these can be used. One reviewer said that we get two wrenches, but only need one. Not true! We need one wrench on both sides, turning in opposing directions to tighten the device. Please don’t give the second wrench to Dad for Christmas. You need them both. The provided zippered pouch was included for a reason: it keeps the fidget tool clean and dust free for easier maintenance. Don’t stick the fidget tool in your pocket. All that gum, string, dirt, clothing lint, snake scales, tattered report card and melted taffy will end up inside the bearings making the moving parts more stationary. Keep the device inside the zippered pouch, and leave the baby snake out of the pouch. I enjoy this device so much that I purchased a second one. I will also leave a review on the second delivery. But since I’m working the Amazon delivery dude a bit much, I opted to have it delivered on an economical delivery date. A word to the fidget tool engineer: if the person who is designing these needs some ideas, I have an idea that would really make these fidget tools interesting to use. So feel free to reach out to me. The rest of you: alter your expectations for this device, and you will discover that it comes in very handy while you are trying to figure something out or listen to someone speak. ... show more

  • Not great as a fidget toy
Color: Color
It does spin. Not sure how it's supposed to be a fidget spinner. You have to constantly manipulate it, and I haven't figured out yet how to do so without it hitting my hand in some way which stops the spin. I have had three colleagues try as well with the same result. Unlike a traditional fidget spinner, this doesn't keep spinning when spun the weight all being on one side means it won't stay balanced and stops spinning quickly if you manage to not hit the palm of your hand with it. ... show more
