I have owned five prior Yale Assure locks -- the original HomeKit ones with August built in, a lever lock and the more recent Yale Assure 2 (before HomeKey). All were generally quite reliable and if anything ever failed, it was the geofenced auto-unlock, but I could live with that occasional failure. I've love the DoorSense function and the overall usability otherwise. When I saw that the HomeKey version was available, I immediately jumped on it. We're all big into he Apple ecosystem and I was excited to be able to go out for a run without my keys or phone and just tap my watch when I get home. After replacing my Yale Assure 2 with this new HomeKey variant, all was fine for a while, but then eventually it would fail to auto-lock. The app would show that the door was closed and lock -- but it was not locked. This proved to be a big security risk as we had all grown accustomed to the auto-lock function when leaving the house. And the prior locks were dead reliable at locking -- but this one is not, and worst of all if you look in the app, it would tell you the door is locked when it is not. I have spoken with tech support many, many times. We run through the same steps a variety of different ways, but there is no resolution. So I'd stay away until these serious security flaw bugs are figured out. This lock is not cheap. If it worked as promised, I'd be fine with that. But as it is, this is unacceptable at any price.

Got this because it was recommended by a family member who knows what he’s talking about. It was super easy to install and works amazingly well. The screws were easy to use especially since we were replacing an existing smart lock. It fits the door very well, in fact better than the original lock on our door. Only a few small complaints. 1. It’s frustrating that to connect it to wifi to use remotely you have to buy another expensive component. While the cheaper one we replaced came with that feature out of the box (the design look use and hardware quality on that one was much worse so it’s obviously a trade off). I will likely buy the wifi component still, but it isn’t absolutely necessary. 2. When the battery is dying it’s honestly not immediately obvious. It seems to notify you with a different sound but if I’m honest it’s not clear. When the battery is low but not dead the touch screen seems VERY slow to respond and takes longer to open but the phone key and keypad still both work. With full battery the thing works fantasticly and the app and setup for guest codes is awesome. I love it, it was an upgrade for sure.

Works great easy to install definitely paying for quality **Update. I saw on the reviews ppl were having problems with connectivity issues. I had the same problem but fixed it. Super simple. Your lock needs to be on a 2.4gHz internet. If you have multiple WiFi access points like me, you need to connect your lock to the modem and not the access points. Very simple fix. The locks work flawlessly. If you want the best in locks; this is the product

Hope this helps some of you… *** Resolving Door auto-lock issues (Read thoroughly - devil in the details): *** 1. To fix issues 1 and 2 (see below under “Old Issues resolved by above troubleshooting”), needed to install DoorSense into door frame. Once I did this and tweaked the Yale app, lock began to function correctly. 2. Tweaking Yale Access app: under Automation 1. Ensure, automatic lock enabled (mine was probably disabled when someone pressed passage mode button (page 30 of instruction manual)). 2. Calibrate DoorSense 3. Configure Auto-lock function and all settings under Automation. *** Also very helpful: *** 1. Advanced Settings: turn on light indicator to indicate lock status. The most important one is when passage mode is activated, it will blink yellow on inside portion of lock. With this mode ON, it will **PREVENT** Auto-lock from functioning until passage is disabled. Yale should add a settings in their app to disable the passage button. Light color indicator alerts descriptions (page 28)…yellow means, red means… 2. Lastly, enable smart alerts for door ajar/open…it took 6-12 hours before Yale Access app generated door ajar/opened notifications on my phone. Homekit notifications will continue to be unlocked/locked…with no additional ajar/open notifications. 3. You can Unlock and LOCK using Home Key. I save time by LOCKING door with my watch or phone…instead of trying to press the Yale logo…especially when dark. *** Old Issues that were resolved by above troubleshooting: *** 1. Locking features stopped working - unable to lock from outside - pressing Yale logo fails to locklc 2. Lock status reported incorrectly in both Home App and Yale App - the Apps reported it as locked, however, it was unlocked - auto-lock also failed to lock *** Persistent Issues *** 1. Limited HomeKit functionality - unable to provide guest Home Keys in Home app (maybe Apple or Yale’s fault, not sure), needed to use guest codes on the Yale App as a workaround. 2. Sometimes Home Key fails to unlock from Apple Watch Ultra 2, have to switch to iPhone 3. Poorly designed Yale App - it is very basic, UI is clunky 4. Yale Support is terrible; their staff is not trained correctly and lack troubleshooting/analytical skillset for the products and have limited knowledge of the products. *** Additional Thoughts: *** 1. Previous lock with Homekit modules very worked well. 2. RANT - If Apple and their partners are going to be serious about HOME AUTOMATION, then they should put more effort into it - if they are charging hundreds of dollars for their products (locks, cams, HomePods etc), ensure the experience is a good one…and it all just works. Is this asking a lot?…I and others spent $300 (and more) in response to that question.

I love this. No more digging for keys out of my purse because I can use my watch. Sometimes it’s slow to unlock on its own when it senses me pulling into the driveway but it’s not a big deal at all. Kicking myself for not getting one of these sooner.
