This works great for our large SUV. On roadtrips most of our stuff can go up in this box and then we can keep essentials like the cooler and snack bag in the car with us. The large we got is HUGE. Pay attention to the dimensions and take a measuring tape out to be sure it fits your load bars and won't be in the way when you lift up your rear hatch. This box sits low on the cross rails and was surprisingly quiet. Not any noticeable wind noise. The lid is a bit flimsy feeling when open and a bit tricky to get latched when the box is full but no real problems so far. The integrated clamps are easy to use and hold very securely. This was definitely a two person job to get up on top of our large SUV so be sure to have a helper and maybe a stepladder also. We just went on a trip and it carried an inflatable paddle board, 3x inflatable river tubes, 3x carry-on size suitcases, an xtra-large duffle bag, 2x small duffle bags, a small air pump for inflatables, a tote style hand bag and 4x pairs of sandles. Still had room for more smaller items if we had needed. It was raining on the first day and no water made it inside. For what you are getting, the price seems steep compared to off brands but the quality and function of the hardware and hinges are far superior. Plus, replacement parts are available for these. Although a costly item, i highly recommend, especially if you have a large family in your car and need room for your gear.

This review is more about the company that sold us the carrier. We love the skybox NX16 and highly recommend it! It is very easy to install, it's lightweight but sturdy and holds a lot of stuff. The best part is that it's waterproof in torrential downpours which is really important while traveling. The company on Amazon actually did not sell us the correct item, I am not sure which one they sold us but it did not open from both sides and to make matters worse it was broken when it arrived and obviously used. We did not order a used product. We were able to return the item free of charge but it was a huge inconvenience and we ended up having to spend a lot more money ($200 more) locally It is well with it though. We highly recommend the investment!
