Our MaxxHaul 50" x 22" Premium Folding Aluminum Cargo Carrier is constructed from extruded aluminum material that is durable and lightweight and easy-to- install. Unit will come with the basket already asssembled and just need to attach the heavy duty steel frame under support with a 2" x 2" hitch shaft to fit standard Class III and IV hitch receivers. I really wasn’t expecting much out of this especially with the plastic corner prices but I use this often. It has hauled 6 full 5 gallon gas cans many times. It has held up very well. Lightweight. Easy and quick to assemble. I use a bolt on hitch stabilizer to keep it tight while using it.

The carrier looks well made and is relatively light. Most of the weight is in the bottom steel frame and the hitch tube. I have not used it other than hooking it up to the vehicle. This is a first look review. Dislikes: it requires a cross tip screw driver, 10mm deep well socket(can use s 10mm wrench), and Allen key(luckily I had one the right size), a metric equivalent( 23mm wrench/socket) to 15/16(this will work also but careful tightening the nut, the bolt is metric equivalent for 1inch. Now that I've tested on the car, I think I would have liked the folding mechanism on the Elevate hitch, I believe it's called. That one has a handle which one pulls to find and unfold the carrier. If this carrier had another hole for a slight angle which would allow trunk access without hitting the hatch, it would also be acceptable. ... show more

Perhaps the folding and non folding carriers are made by different people because unlike the reviews by others, the folding carrier came in just a few pieces. If you need instructions to put this together you might not have enough common sense to be driving. A Phillips head screw driver, a ten mm socket, a 4 mm Allen wrench and either a 1 inch socket and/or an adjustable wrench. The base comes already assembled and has reinforced aluminum edges. The black bracket gets attached to the base with four nuts and bolts. A ten mm socket and a 4 mm Allen wrench is helpful with that. The folding part is attached to the bracket with a nut and bolt either with a 1 inch socket and an adjustable wrench or two adjustable wrenches. There are two red reflectors that need a Phillips head screwdriver. That’s it! Comes with two pins also. I’ll probably put a receiver clamp on it to keep it from wiggling around. I certainly ain’t a lucky person, but it took a half hour from taking it out of the box to having it on the back of my vehicle. It’s sturdy enough to hold me sitting in it and I’m an old beer drinking, donut eating, retired cop. I read the stories of others nightmares but this definitely was easier than changing the oil. ... show more

Bought a couple years ago. Used once and it served its purpose well. Had a little bit of rattle when mounted but nothing a small wood shim couldn’t fix. Interestingly enough, I left it outside behind my garage through two harsh New England winters. I found it a couple days ago when I needed to pick up some fuel. To my surprise, it held up amazingly. Still works as intended. Still looks good all things considered. Oh and still needs a shim. ... show more

This folding cargo carrier was very easy to install and very sturdy. Only thing I’d recommend adding is a slide hitch tightening bracket, this will eliminate any movement between the slide/receiver when loaded.

One of the features listed for this carrier is that it is lightweight. On one hand, that's a compliment. On the other hand, criticism. In this case, it is criticism. This is a very lightweight carrier and I question that it can carry up to 500 lbs. It is assembled with small screws and plastic brackets. The four corners are held together with plastic inserts that are held in place by small screws that strip out easily - so you know that the material the screws is made of is very soft steel. I bought this with plans to mount it on the receiver hitch of my RV to carry a small generator and auxiliary gas tank. I am probably not going to trust the carrier for the purpose I bought it for. The generator weighs less than 50 lbs and the gas tank full of gas is 54 pounds. That means the carrier only needs to be capable of holding 1/5 of the weight the manufacturer claims it can carry. If I had to do it over, I would not buy this again. I liked the fact that it does not have high rails, which other carriers rated for the same weight all have, but there is nothing to secure bungee cords to because there is no rail. Shipping - the pieces for the carrier were well-packed and the package arrived without damage. Assembly - there are no instructions, just a picture of all the parts. You have to figure out where the screws and bolts go. I took my time and it took about 2 hours to assemble. If you need something for carry mulch or something simple like that, this would be adequate, but I would not recommend it for something valuable. ... show more

I’m extremely disappointed in the quality of this aluminum cargo carrier. It arrived dented and scuffed up right out of the box(the box itself was in damaged). For something that’s supposed to handle heavy loads and outdoor use, the construction feels flimsy and cheap. Not what I expected at all for the price. Definitely not worth it—will be looking for a better-built option elsewhere. ... show more
