Description

Our MaxxHaul 60" x 22" Basket-Style Hitch Mount Cargo Rack is constructed from extruded aluminum material that is durable and lightweight and easy-to- install. Unit will come with the basket already asssembled and just need to attach the heavy duty steel frame under support with a 2" x 2" hitch shaft to fit standard Class III and IV hitch receivers. It comes with reflector strips and red colored corners to provide extra visibility for safety. Whether you are going camping, going to a long road trip, or picking up someone at the airport or simply transporting a load that you don’t want to put inside your car or don't have enough space, this basket-style cargo carrier is just the right solution to provide instant cargo space. Raised side rails help keep cargo in place and provide multiple-tie down or anchor point options. Includes hitch pin and safety clip for added convenience.

For starters, this is a great price for a medium duty carrier. And I'll just say that I'd never put 500 lbs in this thing. The metal is thin, it's light, and the support beams don't inspire confidence. However I have no worries about putting 300lbs or so of evenly distributed weight on it. Being light it definitely bounces around, I would recommend getting a support brace to go around the hitch and receiver connection to eliminate the bouncing. I did and it's silent now. For the price that this was, I have no complaints, it works great and being aluminum it should last a while too. ... show more

Profile walls are too thin. It is a fairly strong structure when assembled but profile walls are so thin that my plastic tool chest left impression marks on it. Fyi the tool chest weighs approximately 35-40lbs

The MaxxHaul aluminum cargo carrier has been a great addition to our outdoor gear setup. It’s lightweight yet surprisingly sturdy, and assembly was quick and straightforward. It fits securely on our hitch and feels solid even when fully loaded. We’ve used it to haul a fully packed Yeti cooler, camping gear, and even a 22” Blackstone griddle—with no issues at all. One of the features listed for this carrier is that it is lightweight. On one hand, that's a compliment. On the other hand, criticism. In this case, it is criticism. This is a very lightweight carrier and I question that it can carry up to 500 lbs. It is assembled with small screws and plastic brackets. The four corners are held together with plastic inserts that are held in place by small screws that strip out easily - so you know that the material the screws is made of is very soft steel. I bought this with plans to mount it on the receiver hitch of my RV to carry a small generator and auxiliary gas tank. I am probably not going to trust the carrier for the purpose I bought it for. The generator weighs less than 50 lbs and the gas tank full of gas is 54 pounds. That means the carrier only needs to be capable of holding 1/5 of the weight the manufacturer claims it can carry. If I had to do it over, I would not buy this again. I liked the fact that it does not have high rails, which other carriers rated for the same weight all have, but there is nothing to secure bungee cords to because there is no rail. Shipping - the pieces for the carrier were well-packed and the package arrived without damage. Assembly - there are no instructions, just a picture of all the parts. You have to figure out where the screws and bolts go. I took my time and it took about 2 hours to assemble. If you need something for carry mulch or something simple like that, this would be adequate, but I would not recommend it for something valuable. ... show more

This is just what I needed. It’s really sturdy and was easy to assemble. I will only use this on my camper to haul firewood and maybe a cooler, but in the fall I will put it on my truck to haul a deer. I don’t really ever intend to put a whole 500 pounds on it, but was impressed it could hold that weight. It weighs half the amount of the steel one I previously used. Don’t buy this cargo basket unless you have the ability to fabricate. The tolerances on this are absolutely garbage, tons on slop in the 2” receiver and the cross section where the aluminum basket attaches to the steel bar and supports. I ended up using a 5/8” bolt to attach to the receiver, then drilled a second hole at 5/16” to thread a second bolt to eliminate the vertical slop. I wrapped the 2” tube with gorilla tape to take up some slop since the provided tube measured at 1-7/8” on a micrometer caliper, so with the tape and the two bolts the tube became tight in the receiver. Now, I had to take up the play in the steel cross supports that attached to the square tube. The play was over 1/8” per side where it saddles the square tube, the provided bolts would never be enough to take up all this slop. I broke out the welder, prepped the surface and laid a bead down. Now when installed there is about a 1/2” of play side-to-side and very little vertical. Before all this there was 6”+ side to side and 4”+ vertical. It will work now, but I can’t recommend anyone purchase this item. ... show more
