  • Great rack, but it's missing a key part....
Inferred Variation Dimension 1: 4 Hitch
Buying used from Amazon, but in "like new condition" sometimes doesn't pay. It didn't in this case. The rack is great, but the hitch bolt/pin is missing. Now I have to buy a stainless 4 inch bolt & locknut that will end up costing me more than what I saved by buying used/like new....them's the brakes! Buyer Beware! ... show more

  • Great bike rack
Inferred Variation Dimension 1: 4 Hitch
Love the functionality of this product. Chose this over the tyger system because of the better functionality features like the pull tab tilt feature as well as the quick trigger release feature to Lower the arm bar of the rack. I would make this purchase again 10/10 times.

  • Sturdy and easy to use
Inferred Variation Dimension 1: 4 Hitch
This folds easily and lowers easily when I need to open my trunk. It is stable during transit with or without bikes on it. The rubber straps are a little hard to fasten/unfasten over the bike frame, but that’s because they lock well. They just take some getting used to. I like this rack a lot.

  • Great Bike Rack!
Inferred Variation Dimension 1: 4 Hitch
I read a lot of reviews and tested a few items, including Thule and Yakima products, at the local bike shops. I ended up buying the Doubledown 4 and I have to say I am extremely happy with the choice I made. I was looking at some cheaper options on Amazon, but when I read the reviews, although most of them were positive, I thought I'd better stick with a more solid construction. This bike rack is extremely easy to put together (took me maybe 5 minutes to put it together). Connecting it to my car's 2" hitch was also very easy. The bolt that comes with it actually threads into the hitch and when you tighten it, there is absolutely no wiggling. Loading the bike is very easy. There are three straps for each bike, one horizontal and one vertical for the back of the frame, right below and in front of the seat, and one horizontal one in the front that holds to front of the frame. It also comes with a short and a long strap that are used to strap the front wheel to the frame to prevent if from turning and more importantly, from swaying side to side and hitting the other bikes. I have a Honda Odyssey and needed to buy a Hitch for it. We traveled 5 hours from VA to the Outer Banks, NC with no problems at all. No wiggling, no noise and no issues at all. I didn't even notice that the bikes were there, except for seeing them on my rear view mirror. We drove on highways and paved roads mostly, except for may be a mile of rough bumpy road (even there the rack was pretty quiet). To open the back door completely, you need to remove the bikes from the rack, which is pretty easy. Folding mechanism on the horizontal part and the also vertical part is extremely simple and well designed. No pins to remove and reinsert. I only loaded two bikes on a Doubledown 4 and it was pretty easy. I could have easily added a third and maybe a fourth one it too. The bike holders can slide on the horizontal bars back and forth and that way you can adjust the distance between bikes. Overall, I highly recommend this bike rack. By purchasing from Amazon I saved about $40. I am a Prime member and received the bike rack in 24 hours for free. Follow up (June 2013) We went on another trip (6 hours each way) using this bike rack and this time I put 3 bikes on it including my brand new Cannondale. The bikes fit very well, but I think fitting a fourth one would be difficult. I still love this product and very happy I didn't buy one of the cheap ones. It is a real solid product. Once the screw is tighten, there is no wiggle at all. I have to say, we only drove on highways and country roads (some of which were a little rough). The only downside is that you need to take the bikes down to be able to open the back door of the minivan completely. If you want to avoid this issue, you need to spend a lot more money. I highly recommend this bike rack. ... show more

  • 5 Bikes, No Problem.
The dilemma of wanting a 5 bike rack is that they are nearly impossible to find in stores. I'm a guy who really likes to get hands on before making a purchase, so it was gut wrenching spending this kind of $$ site-unseen. However, 3 weeks and 1,000 miles into having the DoubleDown, I'm very happy. What I like: First things first, I've got 2 adult bikes, 2 24" kids bike, and 1 16" bike on this thing. It takes me about 15 minutes to load it now. And I do have to get creative. What I LOVE about this rack is that the brackets and straps are infinitely adjustable and I've been able to get even the irritatingly small 16" on there solidly. Pedal placement is critically important putting on 5 bikes, so be patient, take a deep breath, and occupy the kids elsewhere while you work on it. But I can't imagine it's any different with any of these racks. Second, it's solid. I installed a Draw Tite 2" Hitch (which incidentally I bought on Amazon as well) on my 2003 MPV at the same time I bought this, so it was a lot of new hardware carrying a lot of $$. I had a pit in my stomach the first trip we took to Tahoe from the Bay Area with this thing fully loaded. I looked in the mirror every time we went over a tiny bump, but there is very little play or bouncing. Several trips later, there hasn't been the slightest bit of play or tightening required. What I don't like: First, there are no rings/loops/cutouts to loop a bike lock through. Forgive me for not wanting to spend more $$ to buy a lock to put on the end of the arm. Yakima could have helped a lot by putting something on there to run a cable lock through. Second, it sticks out very far from the hitch. I think this is to allow SUV's with a separate window from their trunk to open, but on our fixed window MPV it just means it scrapes the ground easily. I am considering cutting it down a few inches and boring a second hole, but something tells me that is ill advised. Third, it's possible to swing it down fully loaded, but it's not recommended. Yakima tells you outright not to do it so it's not like they're misleading you or anything. I'd just like to be able to do it. All in all, I'm very happy with the rack. I would have liked to have played around with more of them before buying, but I took a gamble and it was a good buy. The negatives keep it from getting a 5 star rating, but it does what it needs to do very solidly. ... show more

  • Works great
Inferred Variation Dimension 1: 4 Hitch
Made it multiple time on road trips, great bike rack. Only 4 stars cause the hitch pin is threaded so a standard lock won't work unless you drill it out.

  • Bad paint job and average straps
Inferred Variation Dimension 1: 4 Hitch
The bike rack is low priced for a reason. The paint job is bad ( see photo as taken out of package). The bike securing rubber straps are made from a cheap quality of rubber and are very hard to strap on - especially temperature is little colder 50 or below. Hindsight, i would have paid a couple hundred more to get a high quality product ... show more
