My first unit came and when installed wouldn't run - Amazon replaced it the next day and I used Kohl's to send back the old unit. Very easy install - I had to cut and replace a bunch of pipes as this was a different size to the old pump, but the machine itself was easy to install. The two pipe connections to the pump are hand tightened so the unit should be easy to take out for future service needs. This unit does require 240v (2 live wires at 120v each) - my old unit was 240v so this was OK but please check before you order! In addition to 2 lives there is 1 ground that goes to the electric panel and a second ground on the outside of the unit that I connected to a ground rod. The unit is quiet. It is almost inaudible at low speed, at high speed it's a little louder but still much quieter than my old unit. BTW another review mentions that the low speed will not move your pool cleaner and I can confirm this - you have to use the high speed setting to use a pool cleaner.

Extremely unreliable motor. This is the third pump I've installed in three years - so far, based on my statistics, the life expectancy is about one year (12 months +/- 1 month). The operating temperature is about 180-195°F. Runs quietly, but performance is low. And it is very hot. Manufacturer does not support the warranty. Requires proof of professional installation. I am an experienced technician, and can perfectly well connect those 4 wires myself - 220V and ground, and screw inlet and outlet fitting - and I change this myself. However, self installation voids the warranty. Yuck. I installed the last motor a few weeks ago, installing with a rain cover - we'll see how long the motor lasts covered. By the way, I bought the last pump from amazon "used" and at a very decent discount. However, I received a brand new pump - obviously the previous buyer had not even taken it out of the box and returned it immediately. Nowadays, the cost of replacing a pump costs more than the pump itself, so even though it's extremely unreliable, I'm willing to replace it every year. And that not to change the fitting will continue to order this crap. Maybe at some point they will learn to make them a little better? ) To summarize: based on my experience I do not recommend buying this at all. TBC.

This was the perfect replacement pump. The dual setting for high and low works great. It’s so quiet that I have to check the pool to make sure it’s running. Super easy to install, I installed it with my son. The pump is as powerful as my old high end brand. The package included all the fittings needed.

So when i bought this as a replacement for an old Hayward pump that worked well for over 10 years, i was very skeptical since the price point was so low. The Hayward would have cot 6-900 dollars this was 250. My thought was i could use one of the other Haywards and use this for accessories if it did not work well. First, if you have EVER touched wiring of any thing this will be a snap to install. I think it took longer to screw the conduit adapter in than to wire the thing. Super easy. The connection we standard PVC work so that is just boring, no fault of the pump. When i turned it on i was SHOCKED! So quite i did have to look thru the top of the lid to see it filling. It was on slow speed so i switched to full and it was not much louder. After it fully primed i moved it back to slow speed and only saw a slight drop in flow rate but the sound disappeared again! Very impressed. I will have to see how longevity is but so far it is supper! The negative i have is not its fault as i think it is performing as rated, i should have paid more attention to the flow rates. I replace a 2hp with a 2 hp and did not consider the flow rate. The old one move TON of water. This unit does fine but about 1/2 the flow i was expecting. Again not the pumps fault but i was still disappointed

End of day 1 so take with a grain of salt (have a salt water pool btw). I've had 4 pools including one I built with help from a few subs of course. I've used nothing but the "name brand equipment" in my build and repairs until now. Anyway, I'm not a rookie. So I admit it this was a hard order to place until I unpacked this motor. The filter basin is identical quality of the others to put it simply. I didn't have to move a pipe replacing my Pentair basin and motor. So on to electrical and the confusing post I read before buying. This couldn't be any easier L+L+Ground =220v. The difference with this is its DUAL speed with a switch so one hot on the switch which tied back to the motor which left the other hot in the middle of the two. You WILL need to buy female electrical connectors for the install and they don't come with the motor. I had them but most folks don't. Finally performance is clearly better then a 10 year 1HP Pentair. Everyone say DUH! However, my pool cleaner is moving twice as fast and I had to adjust my jets down more center. They water was being pushed that much harder causing a splash effect on the deck I never had before. So to wrap this up, it's a great buy. Just try to find another dual speed pump for this money which appears on day 1 well spent. I'll post again if any issues or in 3 months.

Pump has fairly good ratings from most sources. I replaced a Hayward 1.5 hp pump with this 2.0 HP model. Had to make significant modifications from 1.5" to 2" PVC to connect which included a couple of elbows. Pump would not pull water from main drain. Reconfigured PVC back to 1.5" and eliminated elbows. Still wouldn't prime. Returned pump. in original carton. Refund TBD. Ordered the same pump again. Packing looked a little different. Electrical layout and connection in back of motor was a little different. Filled reservoir, applied power, opened main drain valve and it primed, no problem. Net/net, faulty pump. It doesn't seem to have as much power as Hayward 1.5 HP TBD. P. S. If you install this product yourself the 1 year warranty is useless. You have to have an invoice from an "installer" with the serial number.
