  • Long-Term Reviews Matter
Size: 2HP Inground Pool Pump
I bought and self-installed this pump back in Oct 2022. Its hard to find good long term reviews as most people do them in the first couple of weeks. Install I thought was very easy(and this was the first pool pump I've ever installed)... I love the screw on compression connections, makes it very easy for later maintenance which im getting to soon. Electrical couldnt be more simple as a swap out(I am experienced with electrical though). This replaced an old Heyward 2HP that was here when I bought the house... for me this XtremePower 2HP runs stronger than the Heyward did, but I also think someone rebuilt the Heyward as some of the part #'s didnt match up. Regardless, I have a huge pool, and when the cartridge filter is clean, this pump cycles my water like a boss... so strong that the cheap old vacuum that was left here was getting stuck to the bottom of the pool(new vac fixed that, but the Heyward was never strong enough to do that). LONGTERM - It's been 1.5 years and this week the pump motor was running but i had very little water movement...My first thought(specially based on some other reviews) was that this low cost pump was dying. But before replacing it I needed to at least pull it out and give it a maintenance look since the motor was still running. My one knock on this unit is there is a fence on the Strainer Housing between the Pump Cover and the Impeller... so getting to the impeller with a screwdriver to see if its plugged is not an option, you have to disassemble it. I removed the pump, which again was super easy due to the screw on fittings, and electric again easy to remove. Im so glad i took the time to do this, I removed the Strainer Housing(6 bolts), removed the Pump Cover(2 screws), and exposed the Impeller. Sure enough after 1.5 years of debris, enough hardy small leaves from my shrubs snuck in there and clogged the impeller. At first I was a little angry I needed to do all this just to unclog the impeller, but I think after doing it, it was a blessing. I was able to clean all these parts with soap and water, including 3 of the o-rings( I didnt use lubricant as the manual stresses not too). After cleaning and putting it back together the pump looked brand new, and is once again performing as good as it did day 1... no leaks, no issues, great power. So, with a little care and maintenance Im hoping to get another year or 2 out of this little trooper... maybe more!!! well worth the money, specially being a lower cost unit. One other note, motor runs hot, and if left in the desert sun it might get hot enough to open up some sort of black hole or time/space continuum haha... be sure to keep this little gem in the shade, he deserves some comfort for all his hard work! Hope this helps. ... show more

  • Don't buy from this unethical seller
Size: 2HP Inground Pool Pump
I purchased this pump back in August 2022, it worked as expected for a few months, but back on May of this year while sitting next to the pool, the pump started smoking, I immediately turned it off. Checked the electric panel, and the breakers were not tripped off. Next morning tried to turn it on, but it didn't start. Contacted the seller and they said: This pump did include a 1 year warranty card but it's only valid if it was mailed back within the required time framed and the proof of installation. I told them that I mailed it to their address in CA, and they said that they were going to check, a couple of days later they said that they didn't have a record on file that they received it so it had no warranty, and also there was NO proof of professional installation. The registration card had to be sent within 14 days of receiving the p ump, and had to be installed by a certified/licensed tech. Certified installation? One Xtremepower was already installed when I purchased the house, the pump was not providing enough flow to the filter, and the pool guy said that I should replace it. I replaced it myself, I am engineer and I work on airplanes, so for sure I can handle a simple three wires replacement of the pump that was already installed. Long story short, they refused to honor the warranty. Note: I purchased extended warranty when I purchased the pump, when contacted them after I had exhausted all instances to get this vendor stand up for the quality of their products, the extended warranty company said that they cannot honor the warranty since the original manufacturing warranty hasn't expired yet. Stay away from this company, they are unethical to say the least. ... show more

  • Works Well Initially But Needs to Stand the Test of Time - To Be Updated in 1 Year
Size: 2HP Inground Pool Pump
Fully Replacing the Pool Pump ***FULL DISCLOSURE*** This is an ADVANCED DIY project to take on yourself. If you're NOT experienced doing this type of work leave it to a Pro. Here's few thing you MUST be highly comfortable with: 1. Electronics or electrical concepts. My pump runs on a 230v circuit. 2. Cut and weld PVC pipe with and use PVC cement 3. Have repaired or removed your pump before. - Background: Having had my pool built in 2009 the original Hayward pump lasted about 6 years running without a problem. Since about 2014 age started getting to the Hayward pump. I had the impeller replaced originally, It lasted a few more years till about 2020 at which point I had to replace the motor. It cost me about $700 bucks. Since I had already removed the whole pump unit off the pool system I knew how to remove the unit. At the end of this 2023 summer system my pool service man advised me the pool pump was throwing the breaker and therefore had a hunch the pump was gone. I decided to replace the pump. I found the specification dimensions for my Hayward pump to ensure I was buying a unit that would fit the tight space. I found various choices online, both Hayward and off-brand. Trying to save a few bucks I decided to take a chance on an Amazon off-brand unit. **Make sure you get an equivalent unit in voltage, dimensions, and HP.** - Receiving the Pump The units came in packed in an extra large Amazon box, they could have saved a box and just sent it in the original manufacturer packing, the original manufacturer pump box was actually well protected and had plenty of packing. - Dry Fitting the Pump I quickly found the pump was slightly taller than the original, about .75 inch taller. That meant I had to cut the 2.5 inch PVC pipe before the check valve to raise the inlet fitting so I can glue the new pump fitting that screws to the pump. I also had to buy some new PVC fittings and a new check valve, approximately $100 more. - Installing the pump **Electrical** Most important! Take a picture of the wiring before you uninstall your old pump. If you have a 230v circuit, Hire a pro or know what two wires are hot and which is common and where they're connected. My pump is controlled via a 3-cuircuit control unit. There a good diagram to start with in one of these review threads, your electrical configuration may be different, so KNOW what you're getting into. Label your wires and use a permanent marker your designate your connectors (eg...L1=LO...etc) The provided instructions were pretty useless to me. I removed the 2.5 inch behind the check valve and installed a reducing elbow to fit the 2 inch check valve and pump fittings that come with the unit. there was little room left to glue the new fittings back on and the pump ended up a little high overall. I bought some small 1 inch rubber mounts to raise the pump a little and hopefully muffle some of the sound and vibration. The rubber mounts worked perfectly! I also installed a 2 inch PVC union to make it easier to remove and repair the pump in the future. - What's the Outcome It's only been a few weeks but my pool is back to being nice and blue and the pump is doing it's job. I have a vacuum connected and when it's running on high the vacuum crawls smoothly, as it should. I would say I saved at least $1500 doing the work myself but I consider myself very handy, quite technical and have accumulated the correct tools over the years to do this type of work. It did take an extra week and a half to get a reducing elbow I couldn't find locally. Kudos to the pros that do this for a living, and so long as they're not charging an exuberant amount for a new installation (NOT including the pump), knowing the pump was installed correctly is worth the cost. ***BIG TIP*** Keep the water levels at good levels all the time! These units are not meant to run dry, If the impeller cannot pull water consistently, the motor will be run hot and DIE! ****** I'll give this Pump a year end-review around this time in 2024 and see how well this pump is still holding up. Under the right conditions, this pump should have a good 3-4 year life, minimum. Let's see if it stands the test of time. Hope this was helpful! ... show more
