  • review for the D7W!
Great product, my experience with it. Honest and True review for the Xtool D7W. Super fast shipping! First thing I noticed was the box it comes in. Very nice, it has velcro straps on the inside to secure the diagnostic tool from bouncing around, and comes with detailed instructions on how to connect it, set it up, and use it. It needed about 180 updates but that only took about 30 minutes or so. I originally bought it for recalibrating my EPS (electric power steering) on my '07 Malibu. The infamous flaw/recall/extended warranty issue. The D7W worked great and I was able to recalibrate and sync the Torque Sensor and the EPS Motor back to 0° or "straight". No more "shakey" steering wheel or no power steering. Saved me from replacing parts that I didn't need too with a simple 5 minute recalibrating. So it paid for itself right away. I'm a mechanic and have used a lot of scanners/monitors but this quality/functionality for the price, ya can't beat it!! I continued to play around further and see what all the D7W features could do, and was actually amazed. I literally spent the next 2 hours on it, LiveData Monitoring , time flew by. You can control individual injectors with live Data Monitoring, turn them on and off as well as seeing the injector pulse width, reading volts, syncing injectors and reseting them. Or monitor anything else in the car while driving down the road, got to Love the Wireless Capabilities the D7W offers!! Super easy to monitor things like fuel psi, trans temp, oil temp, coolant temp, oil psi, battery V+, or any sensor volts, signal V+, battery reference V+. Hundreds and hundreds of PID's to choose from. And It's nice to reflash your system often or after certain parts have been replaced to keep the preformance level and reset the adaptive learning strategy for the ECU to relearn parameters and patterns or, like me, somethings require recalibration after replacing them. So I ended up resetting the TCU, ABS, EPBS, EPS, Injectors/FUEL TRIM/IDLE Re-learn, AFR, 02 Sensors, TPS, even the ANTI-THEFT/Security system and got 2 old key fobs to work again. Runs like brand new again. Been running strong no problems for about a month now! Contact Xtool and check compatibility with your vehicle, it is vehicle specific. In my case they were great, fast, prompt, and very knowledge in my situation. I'd recommend the Xtool D7W if you are a mechanic and in-need of re-programing,re-calibrating,syncing new parts, sensors or detailed and personalized monitoring of your car's basic and motor functions. ... show more

  • 3 HAPPY Years of D7 Ownership!
I service all my vehicles of various brands--Toyota/Lexus, Honda, and BMW--and this scanner covers EVERYTHING for DIY car care and repairs on all these makes/models. There is only one exception for a very special case, which I will discuss at the end. I've owned this XTool D7 for three years now and it's the goto tool in my garage. For any make and model, it has a comprehensive coverage of service/reset functions you will ever need, e.g. EPB brake service mode, ABS bleeding, transfer case reset/calibration, injector coding, to name a few. You can monitor live data on the vehicle, including all those special variables/sensor data on specific makes and models. For example, you will be able to read live ATF temperature level, which is required to set its correct level for many transmission services today. The list goes on and on. So far on all my vehicles, I haven't found any data that I cannot read. As a bidirectional tool, it's beyond just reading live data and plotting graphs. It also gives you full control to adjust settings and to execute certain operations live on the vehicle, e.g. to activate ABS or to turn on radiator fans as part of automotive diagnosis or repair. I purchased D7 three years ago for a little less than $400 and it was a bargain given its bidirectional support, other special features, and comprehensive coverage of vehicles. It came with a three year software update but even after it expires i will still have access to all those functions, though not the latest updated version. I've used several different scanners and what impressed me the most is the Xtool software and unbelievable coverage it has, including European vehicles. After purchasing our BMW X3, I was blown away that it supports many relearn/calibration functions required of its service/maintenance. Looks like the current D7W is the huge upgrade from my D7 (see pictures), e.g. in terms of the software interface and wireless support. I'd love to have the wireless/wifi connectivity for mobility. The current price a little over $400 (after discount) is looking very attractive! The battery duration on my D7 isn't the best and I hope this has been addressed in this upgraded version. Now, to my last point. Xtool D7 includes Key Programming (IMMO), which itself is a huge bonus. But key programming is complicated business and some make/models require higher-end tool and/or extra devices during the programming process. For example, D7 can program keys on my Honda or Toyota, but doesn't support that on my BMW. This is not a complaint. No one should expect a $400 tool to program every make and model, and I know Xtool does offer more advanced scanners that can do it. Overall, this has been one of the best investment in my DIY garage! Again, I service and repair all my cars (except for state inspections) and D7 has them (Toyota/Lexus/Honda/BMW) all covered! If you have the budget and ambition to take care of everything in your own garage, go for it and you won't regret! ... show more

  • Amazing Product.
The OBD2 scanner was everything I needed and more? It supports so many vehicles and updates over the internet to make sure it always has the latest and greatest. There is also a blue light on the device so you know when it is working. I was able to clear error codes, test vehicle features, read statuses and monitors and more. The unit is also very nicely packaged in a protective hard case. No complaints on my end. ... show more

  • Decent tool
I ordered this because I have a modicum of mechanical knowledge and in buying newer cars I found my older OBD II scanners were falling a little bit short. This fills that gap. Got three years of software updates - I bought my D7 about two years ago so I'm looking at getting another three years. I do know that if you download ALL the software available, you'll run out of memory. Right now I'm deleting things I'll never use - Chinese cars, Aussie cars and so on. I haven't plugged this in for months and it's still holding a charge, so the battery is pretty good in my unit. Emailing the reports was a challenge but eventually I was able to do so. It doesn't have a lightning fast brain in it, but once it's hooked up and working, it works fast enough to keep up with the car. So far I've used it on GM, VW and Honda vehicles and it's been pretty reliable. I don't wrench for a living anymore - haven't since the OBD one years - but am able to find faults and fix them. It's paid for itself. Handy that if you click on a diagnosis hyperlink it launches the Chrome browser and goes right to a selection of "how to fix this code" options. Overall I'm still pretty happy. I like the new interface I see on this newer unit (mine is not the D7W just the plain old D7) so I'm wondering if I can get it on this older machine. Oh - customer support has been pretty good. Same day responses as far as I can recall. ... show more

  • XTOOL D7 Automotive Diagnostic Tool
I purchased the XTOOL D7 scan tool back in August '22 on sale/discount at $382 with a return window of 30 days. Delivery was prompt and after receipt of the product a XTOOL sales support rep had contacted me to see if I was satisfied with the product and if I required any tech support. It was unexpected but nice to see a company be proactive with their customers. The diagnostic scan tool came in a durable hard plastic storage case, metal clasps, a dense foam interior with carve-outs for the scanner and its components. The scanner itself feels sturdy in hand and appears to be well protected. The screen size is adequate, and the clarity and color are Ok too. I did note that the scanner (tablet) itself runs on an older Android OS (v5.1.1), hopefully this does not affect long term updates for the product. To date I have been able to test the XTOOL D7 on a couple vehicles and so far, I am very pleased with the results. It has already helped me troubleshoot and resolve an airbag (SRS) issue for my 2007 Mazda CX-7. One that I was previously unable to resolve. The multiple codes that were returned lead me to the exact solution on the internet. This was something my basic Bluetooth OBDII scanner was unable help provide resolution to. I have a 2017 Nissan Sentra for which a new intelligent proximity key has been purchased. The scan tool, according to its documentation found under the ‘special function’ itself, supports key programming for this vehicle. I will know for sure when I have access to the vehicle in December... The D7 scan tool comes with plenty of special functions, many I have not had a chance to review but briefly. There is help documentation (PDF) for most vehicles under the special functions, but most of it is for reference on the specific supported functions per vehicle. Do not expect a detailed instructional on how to properly use the scanner for that special function. More video is being published on the internet by various content creators for the D7 and other XTOOL scan tools' usage. So for most things you should be able to find enough information to steer you in the right direction. I have also seen several positive reviews in regard to XTOOL tech support. Reviews stating, they are prompt to respond with any questions or issues with their products. Overall, I highly recommend the XTOOL D7 scan tool. It will be hard to beat the price to function capability of this bidirectional diagnostic scanner. I expect to make my money back on the cost of the scanner from the money I will save by not going to a dealership for every service need. ... show more

  • Doesn’t do the one thing…
I bought this specifically for one thing, an ABS Bleed program that XTool provides on the D7 line. With due diligence, I went to their website XTool website and used their compatibility guide and the ABS bleed was listed for my vehicle. I order it and it arrives and the first of many red flags appear. On the quick start guide the QR code went to a not found site. After charging it up and updating all the software modules, I try it out and scanning seemed good but when I ran the ABS bleed program I got a “This vehicle does not support this system” ??? Second red flag: the support number online is for mainland China. I tried emailing their support and nothing, not even an acknowledgment of receiving the email. So it’s unfortunately going back. ... show more

  • DON’T HESITATE | GREAT BUY | BANG FOR BUCK
I have a 2007 Honda Civic EX coupe. I recently replaced the ignition lock cylinder & switch assembly. It came with two new keys but I had ZERO way to program them and was left with a car that wouldn’t start. I spend HOURS. DAYS. Searching for a tool that could program the keys but ALSO perform (somewhat) advanced diagnostic. Let me tell you. THIS TOOL IS THE S***!!!! XTOOL really doesn’t advertise great all the features but it will do just about anything you will ever need at home. I’d say this is like shop level equipment tbh. Long story short, I got it. Connected to WiFi. Updated all the apps. And after a short YouTube video I had the car running in less than 5 minutes. Okay here’s the things I noticed: it CAN be a little slow to update everything. But that may just be WiFi idk. XTOOL website is hard to navigate so definitely stick to YouTube. The quality is Top-Notch. It’s the real deal Battery life is great (Duh it’s new) but I’ll update later on. Long story short. It’s a great buy and offers many many features beyond basic diagnostic. Hope this helps! PEACE ✌🏻 ... show more

  • Easy to use. Issues minor. Recommend.
Rear pads and rotors changed on a 2016 Audi A8L. The Good: 1. It identified the car including the VIN. 2. A 65 point scan was done returning 3 codes. I've had a issue for awhile with the trunk lid randomly failing to open or close. One of the codes was for a trunk module. Another was for the suspension which was expected since the car was in the tire change mode where the air suspension is disabled. 3. The xTool did retract and when done restore the EPB. There were many new fault codes when the job was done which the tool cleared. Test drive satisfactorily. Dash Brake light clear. 4. All scans can be saved. 5. The display is large and bright. The menu is easy to follow. It took only seconds to find the command to operate the EPB. 6. Emailed questions to xTool were generally answered within two days. Although not all questions were answered. 7. The free update window is three years which is longer than any other tool I found when shopping. The window was generously extended by one year. Issues: 1. On power up the tool requires a few "retries" to connect to wifi. 2. After power up for each initial scan/task I had to choose between two module options. The information on the dongle is of no help in helping make the choice. I picked randomly. I don't know if this affected the results. 3. The tool did not identify why the brake light was lit. I know that it was because of a rear brake pad wear sensor. 4. Questions regarding the brake light and the two module options were not answered by xTool. 5. The battery went from full to 24% after about 2 1/2 hours. The wifi signal is strong, modem is dual frequency and has Verizon's best speeds. I suggest leaving the scanner charging cord plugged in left on for extended jobs. Using a wired connection to the car, which is provided may reduce battery demand. 6. Does not work properly with my 2017 Lexus RX350 though xTool stated it does. Multiple connection errors. Will not Auto connect and identify vehicle. Will not perform a full diagnostic. Etc. One star deducted. 7. Tool failed self test despite following the company's emailed procedure. I recommend this scanner. The downsides are few and easily overcome. Customer service does respond to emails. I sent several before purchasing and all were replied to. Ensure this scanner will work on your exact vehicle. Not just your make. ... show more
