Excellent, hardcore training machine.
Despite reading some negative reviews about "squeaking" with this machine I took the plunge and purchased it. I needed an alternative cross-training HIIT training routine/workout to replace my hill running because of a nagging injury. I came across this well built, serious unit. I have been HIIT ( HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training ) for many years now and this complements my Matrix upright indoor bike with another form of exercise until my injury heals so that I can run again. And what a great exercise routine it is! This strengthens all your core muscles, similar to stair climbing while building your cardio quickly. Once you train yourself the proper technique of using this machine your are set. The hardest part is teaching yourself the exercise technique so that you get a good HIIT session. At first, until your core muscles are strengthened and you get the proper balance your workouts will not be as intense but once you establish your technique the workouts become harder and there are plenty of videos to help you along. If you are not getting a hard enough workout at first be patient, when you get better at the technique you will gain speed for those HIIT bursts and even add to your routine intensity by using dumbbells. To do the workout all you need is a HIIT timer and you are ready to go. The machine is silent and incredibly well built and strong, not a knock-off. About the only thing you need to do for maintenance is wipe the sweat off to prevent any oxidation. It is easy to carry around and takes up no space at all. I can't believe I only heard of this machine now. There are a couple of people complaining about noise and that is most assuredly coming from improper technique. When using the wrong technique, the bottoms of the pedals bump against the base making loud noise. Once your technique is established that will stop. This is definitely not a poor quality product as some reviewers say and will probably last a life time. A great investment in your health and highly recommended with the build quality being likened to club machines like my Matrix U3X upright. ... show more

Solid construction, great stair climbing workout
Initially I was skeptical whether or not this small piece of stair-climbing equipment could really be effective enough to justify its $400+ price tag. It does seem a bit on the high side, so it was a little while before I took the plunge. Now that I've had the Xiser for a few months and have had a chance to run it through its paces, I recommend it without reservations. First, this small gem is solidly constructed. It's a cast aluminum alloy that reminds me very much of airplane aluminum. Unless you happen to get a unit that has a structural defect, this thing isn't going to break on you! The height of the step is about 8 to 10 inches at the rear of the pedals, so overall it feels somewhat comparable to going up actual stairs. It does not, however, have the same gargantuan step as the powered stair machines at your local health club. Then again, if you know the secret to using this machine properly, it doesn't need that kind of range of motion. Watch most people on a stair machine and you see their heads flopping up and down and their shoulders rising and falling with each step... That's exactly what you don't want to happen, but that's how most people use a stepper. To really get a workout on any sort of stair machine, imagine you have a book balanced on your head and you need to step in such a way so that the book remains balanced there. Or imagine you are carrying a cup of scalding hot coffee filled right up to the top of the rim in your hand held out in front of you, and you need to step so that you don't spill that scalding liquid all over yourself. What this imaginary scenario does is forces you to do all the work of stepping with your legs, primarily your gluts, your quads, your hams, and your calves. Then do this at a relatively quick pace, not racing by any means, but not just strolling along like you were walking up some stairs and holding a casual conversation with a friend, either. Get your legs moving. And keep that book/coffee from going wonky on you. I guarantee you that if you do this, in 30 seconds or less, you're going to start feeling those quad muscles start the burn, and with a few seconds more you'll start to feel it in the other muscle groups as well. If you monitor your heart rate, even though you're not really "racing" along, you're going to find that your heart starts cranking itself up to compensate for the greater oxygen demand your muscles place on you. You'll burn out those quick reserves of glycogen in the muscle tissue, and you'll force your body into replacing them and spending a tremendous amount of energy in the form of burning fat as fuel to do it. This after-workout fuel resupply can go on for as much as 24 to 48 hours continuously, after your workout is over, depending on how long your push yourself and to what degree of intensity during the workout. If you use some sort of interval training, like Tabata intervals (20 seconds of hard work followed by 10 seconds of less intense recovery work, repeated for a total of 8 to 10 minutes) and you keep it up for 10 to 20 minutes, you're setting yourself up for a lot of improvement to your cardiovascular system not to mention the improvements to your waistline, if that is one of your goals. In my opinion, the price for this device could probably come down a little. I'm not entirely convinced that for the amount of metal and the casting process, there is $400 worth of work and materials here, but then again, I could be wrong. I have tested out other mini-stepper machines, and most of them quickly develop metal fatigue at this, that, or the other spot and break. That's not going to happen with the solid construction of this unit, and if by chance you got one with a structural defect and it did break, it's got a 5 year manufacturer's warranty, so it can be easily replaced. On cheaper equipment, their hydraulic cylinders start leaking, or squeaking so loudly that you can only use them when there's no one else in the house to bother with the loud sound. And, while I haven't yet encountered any squeaks or creaks with the Xiser's hydraulics, others who have noted a little noise creaking in have said all you need to do is spray a little graphite or other lubricant under the caps of the cylinders and they go right back to being silent. I do know that $400 is still cheaper than a $50/mo membership to a health club for a year, and you're a lot more likely to use this device in your own home regularly, and for more than just a couple of weeks, as is the way with most health club memberships. The unit is small, and will easily fit beside your shoes in the front hall closet or other small space. It is not heavy; only about 14lbs., which means most of us can pick it up with one hand and move it around wherever we need to use or store it. Out of all the health machines I've tested and evaluated over the years, this one gets marks as high as any. I highly recommend it. ... show more

Super sturdy, sorta expensive
I bought this thing over 2 years ago. I'm glad I did. I use it twice a day - 5 minutes in the morning, 5 in the evening. I cannot go any longer than 5 minutes at a time. My legs get rubbery and weak. The company suggests that good results can be gotten from a minute's use a week. I suppose 1 minute a week would give some benefit, but I gotta push myself to my limit. My routine works for me. I have to do some stretching because my quads and calves have become a lot tighter/toned. If I didn't stretch I'd walk like a rodeo clown. It is very sturdy. I have no problems with its engineering. It is silent and smooth in use. Resistance is adjustable. The frame and pedals are cast aluminum, which is different from the usual low gauge welded steel every other (sub $1000) stepper is made from. The frame and pedals should last FOREVER. So far I have had no problems with the hydraulic system leaking. The machine has required zero maintenance. I see some reviews complaining about the pedals clanging when they are pushed all the way down, so they strike the frame. This can be avoided by the user with the technique of riding the thing advised by the manufacturer. There are several YouTubes available that will give you some tips. The only criticisms I have are: 1) The cost. But I suppose $400 is not a lot, assuming it will last a lifetime. Which seems possible. I have been using mine for over 2 years, daily, and it is not rickety or loosening up. And; 2) The size of the machine. I am 6'3" and 220#. I would like the same machine with a base a couple of inches wider. I have almost fallen over a couple of times. But I mastered the technique advised by the manufacturer, and I haven't had that happen in a long time. Place the thing on a hard floor (not carpet) and you shouldn't sway/feel like you might lose your balance. ... show more

Loud machine and poor customer service
Things started fine with this machine. As other reviews state, it is extremely easy to setup and it is a good, smooth workout. However, as soon as the shocks get heated up a bit there is a loud clicking and squeaking noise that comes from the shocks. The sound can easily be heard a few rooms away. I workout first thing in the morning so I have to go down in the basement to avoid waking up the house. I inquired with Xiser customer service within a few weeks of purchasing the unit and they indicated that "the XISER should not be making any sounds. This has not been an issue, and therefore we have not bothered to put instructions on our xiser.com site regarding noise from an Xiser Trainer." They then sent me instructions on how to lubricate the shocks - so I had to go buy a bottle of PFTE for brand new $409 machine. Post-lubrication it seemed to take a bit longer for the noises to start but it is just as loud and increasingly more annoying. I went back to customer service and indicated that the noise problem was not fixed and asked for their help to resolve. This is the response they came back with: "You can rest assured the XISER is in perfect mechanical condition. Therefore I would suggest you give it some time and the sounds will go away." What?! They indicated that is should not be making any noise, make me take steps to resolve the noise for a new machine, then come back and tell me to ignore it and it will go away. Spend your money elsewhere - I will update review if Xiser takes any step to resolve my problem. Update - mailed in the shocks at my own expense...shocks came back and were just as loud as before. So they either have a manufacturing problem and I received 2 sets of defective shocks back to back...or they just reshipped me the same bad ones. Either way, not good - really disppointing. I basically have to lubricate the shocks on a weekly basis or this thing is so loud it is unusable. Buy lots of WD-40 PFTE dry lube if you are going to buy this machine. ... show more

A solid product, worth more than its price
I bought Xsizer Pro early in 2020 as the pandemic was closing the gyms. Nearly 5 years later -- I am still using it. Every day. The stepper works great. I set it in front of my TV and watch the news every evening for 30-45 minutes working out on it, including some arm/shoulder exercises. Highly recommended. The construction is solid, unlike a cheaper version I had earlier that did not last 6 months. After 3.5 years one of the two cables broke -- I ordered a replacement and it came in the mail in a few days. Replacement was easy, requiring minimal effort. And the customer service was great -- friendly, efficient, and effective. The product and the company are highly recommended. ... show more

Expensive, but best stepper out there
My wife & I live on our boat, traveling around post-retirement. Prior to leaving a couple years ago, I purchased one of the cheaper (made in C) steppers from Amazon. When at sea, or in inclement weather so that walking is not feasible, I break out the stepper. The old one squeaked from day one & eventually the bearings that support the legs ended up breaking down and wobbling a bit. Man, was that thing noisy in use. Enter the Xiser...I was initially put off with the price, and frankly a little embarrassed that I was thinking about spending that much for this little machine. I was also leery of the height of the unit (our storage area is a bit limited). Pleasant surprise, the machine folds flat due to the piston assembly simply lifting out from the legs. A another huge plus for me was that this machine is made in the USA... The action of this stepper is very quiet and smooth. It will not disturb other people who happen to be in the same room. Would buy again in a minute. Update 2 years later: Still using this wonderful stepper, still effective & quiet. I zip tied a set of rubber exercise bands to the front bar—easy to do arm curls while stepping. Still love this little machine ... show more

XISER - A WONDERFUL LITTLE DEVICE
Love this thing and expect to use it daily for . . . probably the rest of my life. It developed a creaking sound until I sprayed some silicone lubricant inside the top cap that sits over the plunger rod . . now it's completely silent ! To keep the plunger rod base from falling off every time I lift and hold by the axle, I used a long, heavy rubber band wrapped around it to keep it securely fastened to the main frame and not fall of the little nubs that it sits over. Disappointed that I had to go to that kind of trouble and wish it had a more secured attachement, but, my rubber band fix works good. I like to prop it up at a 45 deg. angle under my desk so I can work my legs while I work . . . but have to tie my chair to keep it from sliding backwards with every push. Wish the company would design a chair with an Xiser built into it.) Expensive yes, but worth it . . . it's silence and smoothness cannot be found in similar, cheaper devices. My legs have gotten noticeably stronger in the short time I've had this. ... show more
