  • 3D Beast Mode Activated 3D Beast Mode Activated
Style: Horizon 20 Max
I picked up the XGIMI Horizon 20 Max last week and the feature I was most excited to test was the 3D performance. My Epson 5050UB has been great over the years but its 3D mode is noticeably dim, so I was hoping for an upgrade. The Horizon 20 Max absolutely delivered. The only hiccup I ran into was in the settings menu. A few picture enhancement options can make the 3D toggle unselectable, so the cursor would just skip over the 3D option. Once I reset those extra settings back to default, the 3D mode lit right up and worked perfectly. The 3D quality is a solid 10 out of 10. It is bright, vibrant, and the image easily punches through the glasses that normally cut a lot of light. The depth and clarity are incredible and the projector looks like it is running a higher frame rate. The overall image in 3D and 4K is about twice as sharp and smooth as what I get from my 5050UB. For a single chip DLP, that really surprised me in a good way. App support has been flawless so far. Disney, HBO Max, Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube TV, and YouTube all worked immediately. Some apps let me scan a QR code and others auto signed in through Google. I had zero issues getting everything running. The speed of the operating system is another big highlight. The processor in this thing is noticeably faster than my LG C4 TV. The menu navigation is instant, animations are smooth, and the whole system feels extremely responsive. I later found out it is using one of the newest MediaTek chipsets, newer than the one in the Valeron VisionMaster Max, and you can definitely feel that difference in day to day use. Overall the Horizon 20 Max has really impressed me. The 3D is the best I have seen on a projector I have owned, the brightness and sharpness are fantastic, the system is fast, and all the apps run without any issues. If you want a bright, clean, modern projector with killer 3D, this one is absolutely worth it. ... show more

  • Great but not perfect
Style: Horizon 20 Max
Coming from a Benq HT3560 the Horizon 20 Max is an extremely impressive projector. The good: - Incredibly bright, sharp and colorful compared to my old projector. - Motorized lens shift is awesome, so easy to setup compared to physically moving the projector. - Much more quiet than the fan in my old bulb based projector, basically inaudible unless the room is silent. - Swapping between formats like Dolby vision to SDR is super fast. - Gaming is good with ALLM and VRR. - I’ve been using Apple TV 4K, but built in Google tv seems fast and good The not so good: - 3D is hard to enable but it does work. You have to manually turn it on every time, the frame packing option doesn’t always show as available. I believe it has some issues with syncing as another website mentioned, as there seems to be something uncomfortable about watching in 3d compared to my old projector. One thing I do like, you can turn off the 3D signal, nice for my kids who don’t like 3D and I don’t have a 2D disc. - DBLE doesn’t work well, but I honestly don’t care that much. My old projector had a noisy clicking dynamic iris that I never use either. I feel like most software solutions aren’t going to work well and are mostly marketing. I felt movies and games already look great, so if you’re on the fence due to DBLE I wouldn’t worry. They are also release more fixes in Feb 2026. Deal breakers for me and why I returned it: - Laser speckle is too noticeable for me. I’m on a 1.1 gain matte white screen (suppose to be near ideal for this) but just see so much speckle. For example, comparing Dune 2 Dolby vision with my old HT3560 vs 20 Max, it looks so much brighter and colorful on the Max, but scenes with bright white sky’s in the desert showed lots of speckle (0 with lamp based projectors). Bright colored game characters (think Kirby) always had a rainbow speckle. - RBE is also somewhat bad. RBE is extremely visible in menus, and unfortunately video games have a lot of menus. Most obviously was Clair Obscur with the black character menus and white text in my testing. Looking at a characters dialog render on the screen shows it as well. I believe it’s not just this projector, but the limits of tri-laser technology that results in RBE and speckle. Overall, I returned the product and I have my eye on the upcoming XGIMI Titan, which is using different tech that shouldn’t have the same speckle and RBE. It appears to be more focused on movies, which is my use case, while the Horizon is more general purpose (i.e. gaming) and portable. As a second opinion, my wife has no idea what I’m talking about and thought everything looked great. I’m also sad to be using the HT3560 again and miss the Horizon already, but hope my patience pays off. ... show more

  • Awesome Projector.
Style: Horizon 20 Max
The best thing about it is the brightness. Your room doesn’t have to be completely dark for it to work. Although, the darker the room, the better the experience! 5 month update: After having it for a few months, I cannot praise it enough. It projects a 172” diagonal image on a grey surface in my garage. The onboard feature set, including auto focus, is tremendous. It is also capable of connecting to multigig Ethernet via USB and therefor streaming at multigig levels is permitted. The internal Google OS is easy to use; as is its HDMI in bound connection from either a streamer like my Apple TV 4K or my LG UHD Blu ray disc player. Regarding the blu ray player connection, the Horizon 20 Max easily handles 3D content when paired with its own branded powered glasses. Transformers Dark of the Moon in 3D and Dolby Atmos was awesome. It also easily handles its outbound HDMI eARC connection to my (Polk Audio Magnifi Max AX SR ) sound bar. All in all, I am still happy with my purchase - especially what you get for the price. ... show more

  • Excellent Brightness, Great Audio. Good enough to replace TV in daytime when using Standard Mode.
Style: Horizon 20 Max
The projector doesn't really hit 5700 usable lumens.. more like 3600-3900 if you're using it in normal 4K and not HDR. That's the mode I use and it looks fantastic. I'm using a Vividstorm Titan 180" ALR screen and screen size is about 170". I can have all the lights and blinds open during the day and it has completely replaced my TV. I had to stop using HDR because standard mode in regular 4k seems to look much better and brighter. The Harmon Kardon speaker has excellent sound and is very neutral and clear. I'm very happy with the purchase. ... show more

  • Xgimi is good, but the Valerion VisionMaster Pro2 is amazing for a similar price Xgimi is good, but the Valerion VisionMaster Pro2 is amazing for a similar price
Style: Horizon 20 Max
(Valerion on the left in the video and Xgimi on the right filmed at 0.5x on iPhone 15) Ultimately, I need to talk about this projector versus the Valerion VisionMaster Pro 2 since they are the exact same price most of the time. The Valerion Vision Master Pro2 is an amazing projector that I would recommend to anyone who wants an excellent image, a responsive gaming experience, and a bright projector that handles HDR very well. I watched many youtube videos (including the hook up) and read several reviews (including RTINGS review that said the Xgimi horizon 20 max is the better projector overall), and even went to best buy to see the image of higher end projectors (like the Sony VPL-XW5000ES) to help me find a great projector that produces amazing images at a decent price range (I got the Valerion pro 2 and Xgimi horizon 20 max on sale for around $2,400 each for black Friday). As an aside, the Sony projector was much more crisp (native 4k with no pixel shifting), had no RBE, no laser speckle, black levels these two projectors do not have anything close to natively, and looked about as bright as the Valerion pro 2 and Xgimi horizon 20 max even though it was rated at lower lumens. (Everything I am mentioning is based on what I saw because I do not have a way to scientifically measure any of the claimed specifications). Specifically, I hope I can help people deciding between the Valerion Pro 2 and the XGIMI Horizon 20 Max. I compared both projectors side by side and noticed several differences. During my comparisons I was projecting with a 1.20:1 throw ratio using their optical zoom settings with no keystone correction onto a 100” 1.1-gain white screen, using both projectors’ movie/theater modes with Dolby Vision Bright and with their laser-dimming options turned off (having them enabled only makes the Valerion even better than the XGIMI). I also used the optical lens shift on the XGIMI. The XGIMI was a little brighter, but not by much (based solely on my vision, so very subjective). Almost everything else I compared between the two was either similar or better on the Valerion Pro 2. The Valerion Pro 2 had a settings menu that was much easier to navigate, with more options to fine-tune the image; it had better color accuracy and white balance, noticeably lower laser speckle, reduced RBE, and quieter fan noise. The Valerion produced a better overall image, and even with the dynamic laser setting turned off, the XGIMI still had a very blueish/purpleish black color that I couldn’t figure out how to fix. The worst part of the XGIMI, aside from the bluish/purplish blacks, is the laser speckle, which was noticeable even when standing 9 feet back from the screen. My girlfriend also mentioned that the XGIMI’s image looked flatter compared to the Valerion’s, which appeared more three-dimensional (and I agree). The bottom plastic body of the XGIMI also bends/flexes under minimal pressure, which isn’t something I expected at this price point. The Valerion’s build quality seems to be much higher, though that does make it heavier. One aspect that is bothersome about the Valerion is that the fan does not stay consistent. I would prefer the fan to maintain a constant speed so the sound remains the same throughout use. However, it increases or decreases its speed to maintain a safe temperature. This is acceptable most of the time but is very noticeable during quiet moments while watching content, especially with the projector mounted directly above my head. The XGIMI does have better speakers, but even a soundbar would produce better audio than either projector. If choosing between these two models, I would highly recommend the Valerion Pro 2 over the XGIMI. I am returning the XGIMI and keeping the Valerion Pro 2. I also tried the Valerion Plus 2 a month ago, and it was great (just not as bright as I wanted for my setup, and it lacked the optical zoom I needed). As for gaming, both projectors performed very well. My previous projector had 35+ milliseconds of lag, but these both reportedly have around 17 ms at 4K 60. I did not formally test it, but controller input felt much quicker, with no noticeable lag compared to my previous projector (using a PS5 at 4K 60 fps). ... show more

  • Great Product, Bright, Zippy, But I See Rainbows (RBE)
Style: Horizon 20 Max
I'm coming from a 1080P Sony Projector that uses a lamp. First of all this thing is bright. It is instant on and no waiting to get to content. The throw is a max of about 10' for a 100" screen. So keep that in mind if you need to be further away. When you go into an ultra bright mode, it turns the image green. Totally not watchable. So, I'm suspectable to the Rainbow Effect (RBE) and I was hoping the new DLP technology would ease that since they use a laser. It didn't. Normal content it isn't bad. But black on white or just sometimes blinking I'd see a Rainbow. I asked other family members and they could see it to. It became distracting. I love the functionality of the speaker being in the unit. If you want to just grab it and watch something in another room it does a fairly good job with sound. It has HDMI 2.1 so I was able to hook up a PS5 in game mode and felt no lag. That was welcomed. I feel for the value of having all the streaming applications installed by default means you don't have the extra cost of another stick or something. At the end of the day, I returned it since I see rainbows. I still rated it high because it is a great projector, so easy to setup, configure, and place in a room with the lens shift. It is more of how my brain works that I can't use it. And it was hard to give it low stars since it is more on me than the product. I was really sad I had to return it. I loved it minus the rainbows. ... show more

  • Wish it had automatic input detection, but other than that, it is great.
Style: Horizon 20 Max
Don't like that it is pointed at Google services and can't be a simple HDMI in unit. That makes input detection impossible. Would have preferred that it sense the HDMI inputs and switch to the active one. Other than that, it is a great projector. Much brighter than our previous unit.
