  • Never going back to gas.
Style: 16" 14.5Amp Electric Chainsaw
I've had this for about three years now. Some months I use it a lot- I might cut up two pine trees that are about 12" at the base and 50' tall. Other times I'll go three months and not use it. It's fantastic for occasional homeowner use. The auto chain tensioner took a little getting used to but other than that and getting used to a cord, it was easy. It's not as powerful as big gas saw but man is it easier to deal with. I'll happily put up with a long thick cord to avoid having to lift/drop/yank a pullcord twenty times to restart the gas saw. I loaned it to my skeptical neighbor one time and he returned it and said it was a shockingly good tool. If something happened to mine I couldn't fix, I'd buy another without thinking twice. I think my biggest complaint, and it's a small complaint, is that it's hard to pull the chain along with it off in order to resharpen the teeth. But it's a minor complaint. ... show more

  • terrible instructions, does not include bar oil
Style: 16" 14.5Amp Electric Chainsaw
First off, the assembly instructions are terrible. There is a ton of flipping back and forth to figure out what part goes where. It's not made any easier by the fact that some instructions are actually missing (for example, "Step 1: remove the sprocket cover by turning the black wheel until the screw releases.") What saved me was that I've put an electric chainsaw together before, so I had some idea what to look for. Secondly, the assembly process itself is difficult -- you must align four parts (the chain, the chain bar, the body, and the sprocket cover) in order to put the thing together. (I quickly realized that I would need work gloves to protect my hands from the chain blades.) I didn't quite get it right the first time (although it looked good), and as soon as I hit the "start" button, the chain went flying. Safety Pup would not approve. Third, the unit does not come with any bar oil, so it's not ready to use out-of-the-box. (And bar oil can be a strangely difficult thing to find.) I had some in the garage, so I was able to get working without having to make a tour of hardware stores. And finally (this one may be obvious), you need a heavy-duty extension cord with this tool. So if you buy this tool, be sure that you also have work gloves, bar oil, and that extension cord. ... show more

  • Pleasantly surprised
Style: 16" 14.5Amp Electric Chainsaw
I read the reviews and bought this chain saw. For the price, everyone is right! It's a good find! We cut down 4 LARGE branches and then cut those up, and this saw held up great! After cutting for about 4 hours, we broke the chain, but it is easy to replace and not super expensive. Great find!

  • Surprisingly powerful
Style: 16" 14.5Amp Electric Chainsaw
Lightweight and powerful chainsaw, even on 150ft of power cord. While it won't cut giant trees down, it cut up to 6" limbs with little fanfare. Fairly quiet but should still use ear protection. Plastics may not hold up over time though, I noticed the chain cover was ground down on the exit point of where the saw spins after only two uses. The dial used to hold cover in place is a bit odd but works. Oiler keeps chain lubricated well. FYI, I use Wesson cooking oil rather than petroleum based bar and chain oil. Works great and is easy to clean off afterwards with no environmental concerns. ... show more

  • learning to use it better
Style: 16" 14.5Amp Electric Chainsaw
…attaching the bar I had so much trouble putting the bar on that I almost returned the saw to Amazon. A knob screws on to attach the cover and bar. A cam attached to the knob is supposed to tighten the chain by pushing a steel finger on the bar. When you turn the knob to screw on the cover, the cam plate can end up on top of the end of the finger. Then, tightening the knob doesn’t tighten the bar. The plate has a projection on each side of the stud. With the saw on a level surface, I put the end of the chain around the sprocket and the slot in the bar on the projections. With my left hand, I hook my fingers over the oil cap and use my thumb to push the bar against the plate. With my right hand, I pull the end of the bar to take the slack out of the chain. I make sure the chain is in the grooves. On the cam, there’s a radial step from the smallest part to the biggest. I rotate the knob so the the radial step is about 8 o’clock and the smallest part is forward, at 9 o’clock. Without moving the knob or disturbing the bar, I fit the cover so that the threaded hole under the knob is on the stud. If I now start turning to screw it on, the cam will push the finger on the bar instead of getting on top of it. …oil leakage On days of heavy sawing, I’ve found the saw frugal with bar oil. The problem isn’t the one hour a month it may be running. (At 10 seconds per cut, that would be 360 cuts.) The problem is the 719 hours a month it sits idle. The oil reservoir is high enough that gravity can cause seepage. Before mounting the bar, I use toilet paper to wipe any sawdust off the oil port seal, the steel plate around around it, and the corresponding surface of the bar. That can reduce seepage, but if the saw could sit for months, it's better to pour the oil back into the bottle. ...lubrication needs frequent checking As with other chainsaws, sawdust in the grooves of the bar and the oil port on the bar can restrict the flow of oil. As the instructions say, before using the saw, I check the reservoir, then make sure the nose of the saw will fling tiny oil drops on a piece of paper. If there are no spots, I take the bar off and use a toothpick to push sawdust out of the grooves and the oil port. …speed and convenience I find it faster than some gas saws. I generally use 150 feet of 16-gauge extension cord. According to my watt meter, the motor gets about 2 horsepower in electricity. So far, that has been plenty. If I need more power or want to go farther from an outlet, I’ll upgrade to 14 gauge, as the manufacturer recommends. When I use a chainsaw, it may be idle 90% of the time. I like the way an electric saw can sit there ready for use. The thumb button prevents the trigger from being pushed accidentally. It fits the right thumb, so the right hand must be in operating position. ... show more

  • Dependable
Style: 16" 14.5Amp Electric Chainsaw
Bought this in late 2018 (along with 100ft 12-gauge extension cord) because I was sick and tired of fighting with my gas chainsaw. I have NOT played gently with this chainsaw: plunge cuts, using the teeth to help cut through some massive oak rounds (cut by tree service), and took down a couple of my own trees too. Difficult, but I even got through a couple of massive 36" diameter rounds myself by attacking from both sides. After a year it gave me some trouble where it turns out there was a loose wire in the handle that would make the saw work only intermittently. Easy fix. This saw is a workhorse and I'm happy with it after 3 years of hard work with it. Incredibly easy to tighten, or remove and replace the chain. Not too heavy to use. I'm a happy customer. ... show more
