Dead silent and it starts its own siphon. The only time it makes a noise is if I let my water get too low and it starts waterfalling into the tank. But, that's not the fault of the product. I did replace the filter media with a coarse sponge and water polishing filter media, both from aquarium coop, so that I don't have to pay a recurring filter media cost. I also bought a sponge for over the intake. That helps its filtering capacity a lot and keeps shrimps and fry from getting sucked in. ... show more

Absolutely silent. And works great at cleaning my 10 gallon tank. I really like the adjustable flow. My Beta prefers a gentle current and this does the trick. My fish are lively and seem healthier. This was easy to set up and works great.

I bought the IQ 20 gallon for my 10 gallon tank. Quiet. Works great! Up to you; But, I bought a pack of 35ppi black aquarium foam to substitute buying the $2 per filter inserts for this filter. Bought a pack of .08 filter intake sponges for pre-filtering. The only sound I hear, is the water trickling into the tank, due to the height of the water flowing out above the top of the water. When the water is filled to the bottom of the outlet, no water trickle or splash will be heard. So far, it is awesome 👌 ... show more

Tetra whisper IQ power filter 10 gallons: I love the adjustable flow. I wanted a hob for my 10 gallon cory fry tank, the sponge filter just wasn’t cutting it on keeping the tank looking clean. The 1st hob I tried didn’t have an adjustable flow and the fry were clearly struggling in the current it created. So I got this tetra filter. I’ve only had it running a few days but so far couldn’t be happier with it. I have it on a medium/low flow setting and it’s perfect for the fry. It was easy to set up. I didn’t use the adjustable intake tube, that would have been too long. Without the intake tube, the intake sits right in the middle of the tank. And a small intake pre filter sponge fits nicely on it, don’t even need to secure it with a zip tie. I cut some filter sponges to fit where the disposable cartridges go. I also love it has an internal pump, why some others don’t have an internal pump is beyond me. It’s not very noisy which is nice also. All in all, the adjustable flow and easy pre filter sponge application/maintenance makes the 10 gallon filter a great fry tank filter in my opinion. I paid $13.99 before tax for it, which seems like a good price. ... show more

Worked pretty well. This design does kinda rely on your tank being level - water started to flow around the filter instead of through it when our tank was off-level. Not really a problem for most tanks though, and it went away when we got our tank level. The sound of the waterfall is louder than the sound of the motor. After the pump was primed, it didn't seem to be a big deal if the water wasn't up to the minimum water line. We've only had ours running for a few weeks so I have no comments on longevity. ... show more

Not bad for the price, easy setup and worked as needed other than it doesn’t suck up much and it started falling apart over time after only maybe a year of having it. And just recently it completely stopped working. Quality is okay but for the price you can’t be too mad about it.
