This window insert is super attractive, sturdy, and matches well with our sliding glass door. The only issue is that when you try to lock it for the night in the in-coming and out-going position so that the cats can't get out, it takes about 10-11 tries before you can get the door in E-X-A-C-T-L-Y the right spot for the lock to work. It really shouldn't be that hard. And just last night when we thought it was locked, as I was going to bed I noticed our cat Ruby outside our other door wanting to come in. (We have coyotes and other critters out and about at night, so this was pretty scary.) Turns out, the cat figured out how to PUSH his way through the locked door. (If you have a cat big enough and rascally enough, it CAN be done.) That is not good. If I still had the packaging I'd be tempted to send it back. But my husband said he would try to figure something out to a) make the door not so hard to lock, and b) make it so when it is locked we are assured a cat won't get out. In the meantime, I leave a couple of boxes piled in front of the door so Ruby can't Houdini his way out.

We got this door recently and I honestly was afraid that it will require me to figure out how to fix it to the existing vinyl door frame. It turned out that installation was pretty easy, the door has the moving upper part to adjust the height and two screw knobs that fix the moving part in the specific position. That was pretty much it. Now some issues. First of all I hoped I will be able to move the door lock keeper to reuse the existing lock, but it requires the grove on the door, which the cat's door lacks. Too bad. Probably we'll use the security bar instead. The second issue that I did not realize until I installed the door. There is a 2 inch gap between the screen door and the cat's door, through which insects can easily get into the house. I already bought a 2 inch plastic trim to install to close the gap, we'll see if it works.

Update: Finally wedged a stick in between the door and the wall to tighten the seal. It works but not exactly useful if you want to use the door to come in to the house. Still, it works. The lock is still super-annoying. And I will say that it really is pretty. Looks great if you can ignore the stick I really want to love this cat door. Especially for the price. But we can't get a tight fit between our slider door and the cat door. There's about a quarter inch gap that is not going away and all the foam in the world isn't helping. Emailed the company but it's been a few days and no response. And the lock on the cat door itself is so annoying. If it's not an exactly the right spot, it won't lock. Each time we like it at night it's a few minutes of d****** with it. For this price, it should be pretty perfect and I will admit I'm judging it more stringently because of that

This is such a great pet door! My 2 cats love it and started using it right away after it was installed. I modified my curtains so they're not in the way, and I'm just thrilled with the way it all turned out. This pet door is so much better for cats than a flexible plastic flap, and it seals shut after every entry and exit. So far so good!
