  • Outstanding Sturdy & Safe Cat Playpen
Color: Satin Black E-Coat Size: 36.0"L x 23.5"W x 50.5"H
This is an outstanding cat playpen that exactly suits my cats' needs, although I ended up spending extra on accessories (see below). I selected this playpen because I trust Midwest due to our high quality Midwest dog crate, and also for this playpen's competitive price, 4 secure-fasten doors, slide-out bottom tray, size/height, and wheels with brakes. I found it easy to assemble this by myself, although I have a knack, take my time, and follow instructions. This cat playpen does not need any zip ties at all, and is extremely sturdy, well-designed, and 100% safe with no jagged or sharp corners/edges. I wheel this playpen all over my one story ranch home as needed with my cats inside it. I have 3 adult cats who like to sleep in it at night, and a few who sometimes use it in the daytime. These cats range 9-13 pounds. If traveling, I can add a fourth cat to this playpen, but I'd buy a third cushion. ACCESSORIES: I ended up buying an extra cushion (identical to the one that comes with it) as well as the Midwest vertical/slanted "exit" ramps for ferrets (with washable aqua covers). (I superglued the rubber protective covers to the feet of those ramps for extra safety.) Those ramps fit fairly well in this cage and help 3 cats navigate around each other. I also added a hammock up top, 2 stainless steel crate food/water bowls that attach to the crate, and a cardboard box "cat bed" on the bottom to keep kitty litter from flinging into the bottom tier cat bed. If I need to evacuate for another hurricane, I will take both crates (playpen and dog crate) to keep all my cats safe, so it's great that they are easily foldable for the trip, and I'm keeping the instructions handy in case we have to evacuate in a rush. ... show more

  • LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!!!! Use your heads People, and use zip ties to keep your pets safe!! $5 is Worth Your Pets Safety!!!
Color: Satin Black E-Coat Size: 36.0"L x 23.5"W x 50.5"H
I love this cage, and cannot say enough good things about it!!! FIRST, let me start by addressing previous reviews of this item. It was a bit more difficult to put together then other similar cages that I have bought, and the cage by itself is NOT STURDY, and I would definitely NOT put my pets in here as it was sold to me. HOWEVER, with $5 worth of zipties invested, this is THE BEST CAGE I'VE EVER BOUGHT!!! It's SAFE, and ROOMY. I love the design of the shelves (which are a better design then the Marshall Folding Mansion for Small Animals) as they lock into place on 3 walls of the cage. The luxuriously spacious door design (also better then Marshall), is absolutely FANTASTIC to get your pet, or anything within the cage, in and out easily. The doors also have built in locks (not offered by Marshall), to keep your pet in, which is fantastic for me because I house Cottontail bunnies in these cages, and they are thinkers which can get out of almost anything. Cottontails are EXTREMELY rambunctious, and give this cage a run for its money (there is a party going on in my house EVERY morning at 2 a.m.), but NEVER has the cage failed. With the zip ties, this cage is SAFE and SECURE, and I have NEVER had ANY kind of incident with any of them getting hurt. I cannot be more thrilled with this cage!! One of the shelves even comes with a padded "bed" that straps on securely, so the bunny cannot throw it to the bottom of the cage. I just wish Midwest sold those Beds/Pads separately because I'd like to have extras in the event that one gets soiled. The wheel design is pretty stupid in my opinion, but it does work, and I haven't had any problems with them. I have 3 of these cages and am delighted!! The price is also the best you're going to find for a cage this size. I highly recommend this cage (and a 100 pack of zip ties), to anyone in need of housing of a smaller pet!!! ... show more

  • Great, but difficult assembly
Color: Satin Black E-Coat Size: 36.0"L x 23.5"W x 50.5"H
The "playpen" is great. It's spacious enough for a large cat without being overly cramped. Still, I would not expect a cat to want to be confined in this cage for all time. I intend to use mine as an infirmary for a new stray kitten I plan to bring inside after she's spayed. I will then use it to integrate this new kitten into the household of two other cats, and hopefully it will help me keep the peace. My first order came with a broken clasp and bottom tray, but Amazon made the return super easy (UPS came and picked it up/came back three times because it was raining and I didn't want to leave it outside). The second order seems to be very slightly bent in some places, enough to not make one side of the pen sit properly. However, it's so slight this could be the result of user assembly error. Assembly is more difficult than it need be. My suggestion is to have a second person on hand when assembling the main structure of the cage. One person can hold the thing up and keep it from collapsing while the other person attaches all of the sides. The instructions really could be clearer in this regard. The sides slide together, and some of the the horizontal bars slide and snap down into loop-brackets (that's really the only word I can think of to describe them) from top to bottom at each corner. The toughest part is the wheels. The screws are the most difficult aspect of the whole assembly. Each screw comes with: a screw, a flat round washer, a thicker nut, and an extra round washer that is not mentioned in the instructions. This extra round washer is split, like a broken link in a chain. This round, split washer is supposed to go on just above the nut, and it keeps the screw and nut from jiggling apart over time. (The order of installation, from top to bottom, for the wheel components are: flat washer on top, thin metal wheel assembly plate, cage, fat plastic wheel assembly plate, wheel, round washer, nut.) This should be pretty simple. However, the screw is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch too short! It's really tough to get everything to fit on the little short screws they send. I finally discovered that if I took my pliers and squeezed the round, split washers I could get the split ends to line up better, and the thing would take up less room. This made things considerably easier, but still took more effort than should be really necessary. The screw head is easy to strip, so have both a smallish phillips and flat screw driver on hand. If the phillips (makes the shape of an X ) part gets stripped out, you can switch to the slightly more challenging flat screw driver (makes the shape of an | ) to finish the job. Lastly, the wheels should be installed close to each corner, at almost the last cross of wires. If you inset the wheels, the cage wobbles. The diagram is really unclear, and seems to indicate you should position the wheels further from the edge, but it's wrong. The text tells you correctly where to place the wheels. ... show more
