🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The WD SN850X NVMe SSD is highly rated for its fast speed, easy installation, and large capacity, making it a popular choice among both PC and PS5 users. The drive's quick migration of data is notable, while its compatibility with PS5 provides a solution to the limited console storage. However, some users reported that the claimed read speed of 7,300MB/s fell slightly short in practice.

Pros

  • 🚀 Super-fast data migration
  • 🎮 Compatible with PS5, resolving storage issues
  • 🔧 Easy to install, both on PS5 and PC
  • 💾 Large capacity options up to 4TB

Cons

  • ⏲️ Claimed speed might not entirely reach up to 7,300MB/s
  • 🔥 Does not come with a heatsink, might need to purchase separately
  • 🧩 WD software could be improved according to some users

Should I Buy It?

Yes. Despite some minor caveats, the WD SN850X NVMe SSD stands out as a high-performance storage solution with impressive speed and capacity. It is a worthwhile upgrade for both PC and console users needing more space, faster data migration, or an SSD to fit in the PS5's expansion slot. Just remember to potentially invest in a heatsink to handle heat dissipation.

4 Years, it's still a Plug-and-Play Perfection for PS5
Quick Important Information: I bought this back in 2023 at a reasonable price of $85 As an average WD_BLACK user, I’ve come to expect reliable performance from their products, and this SN850 SSD lives up to the brand’s reputation. Installation & Setup: Super easy to install, literally plug-and-play. If you're using this with a PS5, the process is smooth and quick. Once installed, the console recognized it right away and formatted it without a hitch. No extra steps or tinkering needed. Performance Is Top-Notch: The SN850 runs like it is the PS5’s internal SSD. Game load times are identical, whether I’m playing directly off this drive or the built-in one. I’ve tested it with some larger titles and fast-paced games, and it handles everything effortlessly. Transferring games back and forth is quick, and performance remains stable even during longer sessions. The integrated heatsink does its job well, with no signs of overheating or thermal throttling. Built for Gaming: What I love about WD_BLACK is that their products are made with gamers in mind. This SSD isn’t just fast, it’s reliable, built well, and designed to meet modern gaming demands. I’ve used several of their drives over the years for both console and PC, and they’ve never let me down. This SSD is no exception. Final Thoughts: If you’re a PS5 owner looking for an easy storage upgrade that won’t compromise speed or performance, this is a perfect choice. It’s simple to install, works flawlessly with the system, and gives you the extra space you need to enjoy your full game library without constantly juggling files. WD_BLACK has once again delivered a product that hits all the marks—fast, dependable, and user-friendly. ... show more

The WD_BLACK 1TB SN850X NVMe internal gaming SSD has been a great addition to my setup. It works just as well as my more expensive FireCuda drive, with excellent speed and performance. The heatsink is a nice touch, keeping the drive cool during long gaming sessions. The installation was easy, and the drive is fully compatible with my PlayStation 5. The read speeds are impressive, and I’ve noticed quicker load times and smooth performance in my games. Overall, this is a great value for a high-performance drive. Highly recommended for anyone looking to upgrade their storage without breaking the bank. ... show more

So easy (install), even a caveman can do it…
I self identify as a caveman and this was easy to install and format. The PS5 recognized it immediately and I formatted it and it was good to go. I would suggest searching for a walkthrough on YouTube just to be sure what and where you are taking off from your console. Plenty of options on there, depending on your model/generation of PS5. ... show more

Great PS5 NVMe expansion drive
Got this day one when I got my PS5 and never looked back. Plug and play functionality and with the factory built heatsink for dissipation and it’s solid construction, it’s never given me issues. Blazing fast read/write speeds and no data corruption after years of use now. Highly recommend this SSD.

This is great to have for your PS five to play more games and run it smoother
This is a great thing to have for your PS five to get the best out of your gameplay. The game runs more smoother and I feel like there’s more graphics. I can also store up to seven more PS five games into my PS five installation was easy however you really need to make sure you have a Phillips small glasses screwdriver to open up the slot where the microchip goes in because it is a tiny tiny screw that you have to open. Are they not after I installed it? The PS5 gave me instructions to reformat it and the next time I downloaded a game it asked me if I wanted to put it on the chip you click OK and you’re good. I highly recommend this product. I honestly wished I had the microchip that takes in more memory, but for now this one is great. ... show more
