I got this external hard drive because I was running out of space on my gaming PC and couldn't install another internal hard drive since my computer is under the manufacturer's warranty (opening the case voids the warranty). I have been a longtime fan of Western Digital drives. This drive is plugged in to a USB 3.0 port and I notice no discernible lag compared to an internal drive! It's amazing you can get 3TB (3,000 gigabytes!) of storage for $85. And it's also powered by the USB cable, no other power supply needed. This is much more convenient than the half-dozen other external drives I have, each with their own unique AC power supply. It's simple and quiet and has an activity light. What more do you need? Back in 1993 or so 1GB would cost $1000, now you get 3,000GB for $85. Check the different colors, for some reason colors like red were cheaper.     • Keeps getting "disk errors"....NO MORE buying Western Digital

I've only owned this drive for 18 months and it has already started to have problems despite only occasional use. I'm getting repeated "disk errors" I've used it about four times to back up files...not even up to a TB used yet. It isn't even my primary back-up drive. It has never left my home and I keep in zipped up in a separate case I also bought on Amazon. I'm using Windows 10 and as of today, 10 09 2019, the drive just blinks constantly and Windows 10 shows it has "errors" and not accessible. I'm running CHKDSK now...again (this happened about two months ago.. Thankfully, I have my files backed up on two other drives. This is the 3rd Western Digital drive that has had problems in less than two years, but the 4th one I've had problems with over the past several years. So tired of wasting money on branded WD drives, as well as those that are sold encased in another brands external hard drive case (e.g. Iomega) ... show more

I have used 500GB HDD. but it was not enough. now I bought 3TB HDD with USB3.0 which provide higher speed than previous USB2.0. I am really satisfied with this WD 3TB red. the red color is quite fancy. the size are not too big.

This thing has been backing up my computer daily for the last 6 months. It has not failed once nor missed anything. My one complaint may have to be that the file structure is crazy. I had that same complaint with another external hard drive for home. no big deal.
