  • The Original Waterrower - Handcrafted and Built to Last: Designed in the mid '80s by Yale and US National Team Rower John Duke. WaterRower continues to combine stylish design, handcrafted workmanship, our unique WaterFlywheel resistance and ethically sourced materials create the world's finest rowing simulator
  • Made in the USA- Hand-built in Rhode Island; all timber used in the manufacture of wooden WaterRower rowing machines is sourced from sustainably managed hardwood forests in the Appalachian Mountains. The signature chocolate-brown coloration will vary in complexity and is complimented with hints of gray, red, and purple tones...though uniform in coloration, each piece of Walnut wood contains its own inimitable identity
  • Smooth - Water rowers use a water-filled flywheel to provide resistance as you row. The resistance is created by the paddle-like blades of the flywheel moving through the water, creating a smooth and natural resistance that closely resembles the feeling of rowing on water. Like water, the harder you fight, the more resistance you get
  • Burn calories in short time - There are many benefits to rowing. It is a low impact cardiovascular exercise that puts less stress on your joints. Full body workout that includes your legs, core, back and arms. Perfect for all fitness levels. This water rowing machine targets all major muscle groups (84 percent of total muscle mass)
  • Dimensions - 82" L x 20" H x 22" W / weight: 103.5 lbs (with water). Easily store it on end

Features

  • Handcrafted rowing machine with "water flywheel" that replicates actual rowing feel
  • Flywheel sits in enclosed water tank to provide smooth, quiet, self-regulated resistance
  • Series 4 performance monitor tracks workout intensity, stroke rate, heart rate, and more
  • Solid black walnut construction absorbs sound and vibration; hand finished in Danish oil
  • Stores upright; measures 84 x 21 x 22 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 117 pounds

Description

The WaterRower Classic is handcrafted from solid American Black Walnut wood, finished with danish oil. The WaterRower's patented WaterFlywheel has been specifically designed to emulate the dynamics of a boat moving though water and is unsurpassed in its simulation of the physical and physiological benefits of rowing. WaterRower will not provide support or documentation for any product transported outside of the original country of purchase Rowing has long been recognized as the perfect aerobic pursuit, with naturally smooth and flowing movements that don't tax the joints but do boost the heart rate. Now you can take your rowing experience to the next level with the WaterRower Classic rowing machine. Using the same principles that govern the dynamics of a boat in water, the WaterRower Classic is outfitted with a "water flywheel" that consists of two paddles in an enclosed tank of water that provide smooth, quiet resistance, just like the paddles in an actual body of water. As a result, the machine has no moving parts that can wear out over time (even the recoil belt and pulleys don't require lubricating or maintaining). More significantly, the water tank and flywheel create a self-regulating resistance system that eliminates the need for a motor. As with real rowing, when you paddle faster, the increased drag provides more resistance. When you paddle slower, the resistance is less intense. The only limit to how fast you can row is your strength and your ability to overcome drag. And unlike conventional rowing machines, which tend to be jerky and jarring, the WaterRower Classic is remarkably smooth and fluid. From a fitness perspective, the WaterRower Classic works 84 percent of your muscle mass, helping tone and strengthen your muscles while burning far more calories than most other aerobic machines. The exercise is also low impact, as it removes all the body weight from the ankles, knees, and hips, but still moves the limbs and joints through a full range of motion--from completely extended to completely contracted. The WaterRower Classic is outfitted with a Series 4 performance monitor that's designed to balance technical sophistication with user-friendliness. The monitor--which includes six information and programming windows, six QuickSelection buttons, and three navigation buttons--displays your workout intensity, stroke rate, heart rate, zone bar, duration, and distance. Plus, the monitor is compatible with an optional heart rate chest strap and receiver, which helps you optimize your workout and achieve your exercise objectives. The WaterRower Classic is handcrafted in solid American black walnut, which may vary in color from rich brown to purple/black. The black walnut was chosen due to its marvelous engineering properties, especially its ability to absorb sound and vibration, which enhances the WaterRower's quiet performance and smooth operation. Black walnut, like all woods used in the construction of the WaterRower, is a premium hardwood with incredible longevity and dimensional stability. In addition, the wood is harvested from replenishable forests and is hand finished with three coats of Danish oil to give it a deep luster and warmth. Other details include dual rails with four corner wheels that increase seat stability and reduce the amount of sweat buildup; a frame that flips upright for handy storage; and a weight capacity of up to 1,000 pounds. The WaterRower Classic measures 84 by 21 by 22 inches (W x H x D), weighs 117 pounds (with water), and carries a one-year warranty on the frame and components (WaterRower will upgrade the warranty to five years on the frame and three years on the components with the completion of a registration form).

  • We absolutely LOVE this product
Color: Lo-Rise
We absolutely LOVE this product. If you're thinking about getting this, just do it. It's GREAT. We ordered the Classic in Black Walnut and not only is it gorgeous, it works even better than we expected. I did a lot of research before buying this product and we couldn't be happier with it. It provides a great full body workout which is great since my husband and I both have issues that prevent us from doing any kind of high impact exercise. Our WaterRower arrived on time and in great condition (we ordered from Body Basics). The assembly was simple and hassle free. I think my husband has said 10 times already how glad he is we went with this particular rowing machine. It's smooth, there's no delay in the catch and the sound of the water is very pleasant and kind of serene. It's also very quiet! I'd give this a 10 if there was the option. VERY happy with our purchase! ... show more

  • Love Gronk Fitness! This rower is amazing!!!
Color: Lo-Rise
Gronk fitness was incredible through the entire process! They were quick to call to set up our install, they kept us updated on the process, and they even sent us an extra gift! The rower itself it flawless! It's beautiful and easy to use. The water is quiet and soothing and the rower itself is a great workout! The finish is stunning and looks like a piece of furniture instead of exercise equipment. The installers were very professional and kind and set it up properly. The install only took a few minutes and they did a great job. I would highly recommend this company/machine to anyone. We love using the rower and hope to buy other exercise equipment from Gronk in the future ... show more

  • Excellent rower and the company stands behind the product
Color: Lo-Rise
First off, this is an excellent piece of exercise equipment. I've been using it daily since it arrived. I really appreciate how easy (and oddly relaxing) it is to burn some calories on this thing. The build quality is far better than we expected. I was completely shocked to find out that the "Walnut" version wasn't a "Walnut finish" or "walnut stain" or other nonsense. _It's solid walnut_. No wonder it's so pricy! This thing is beautiful! Also, maybe you don't care about this, but this rower is the one that's actually manufactured in the US by a US company. So the money isn't going overseas to a sweatshop. Being a US company has some other advantages too. When the rower was shipped to us, we were dismayed to see that only half the needed parts had arrived. It's shipped in two boxes and FedEx didn't drop off the second box. The company made it right by first following up with FedEx, and then _overnighting us new parts_ when FedEx wasn't forthcoming. Try getting that kind of responsiveness out of an overseas seller. ... show more

  • Very quick to build & get started
Color: Lo-Rise
Well worth it to take time staining/applying oil to each piece of wood prior to assembly. If I were doing this quickly, it would have been 20 minutes of oil and assembly in under an hour. I waited for everything to dry and did double coating but still had everything put together in just a few hours. Excellent product and definitely an eye-catching design/furniture (if you want to call it that). Part of the beauty of this is you leave it out due to the looks and I've found I use it more this way as well. Great low impact workout, I recommend grabbing the bluetooth attachment and testing out some of the mobile apps that sync with Strava etc. EXR is an up and comer similar to Zwift for rowing, or the Ergatta attachment are all easy updates. ... show more

  • Elegant, quiet and extremely solid
I'm a soon-to-be 60 ex-jock that used to run and use weights/machines to stay fit. A demanding job and a bum knee rendered that exercise regimen unsustainable which led to a 35-lb weight gain over the last 3 years. Elliptical machines used to be my favorite because of their low impact but they are ugly and impractical to move around the home if you buy one that's worth buying. I've been considering a rower for about 18 months but never really researched it heavily until I watched House of Cards and realized that, like Frank, I needed to get into shape and better health. I purchased the WaterRower Classic. Putting it together was quite straightforward but I had a challenge with the first piece that serves as a brace and spacer at the end of the rails. The holes/screws were just a bit out of alignment. It took about 15 to 20 minutes to get them to align so that I could tighten it down. The rest was a breeze. The instructions are quite sufficient and it's not very complex. My first use reassured me that this was an exercise that I could see becoming a habit. I awaken between 4 and 5 AM every day. I spend two hours usually doing computer work. The WaterRower is so silent that I can use it when I awaken without awakening every living thing in the house. It's comforting swooshing sound (not at all like the mechanical sound of the rower on House of Cards) does not awaken others and provides a mellow white noise in the morning. Of course, being new to me, I don't yet have the stamina to use it for more than five minutes at a time. That will change, I'm sure. It is smooth, quite and solid as a rock. Nothing seems cheap about it - given what I paid I don't know how anything could be cheap on it. I've read reviews about the foot rests being flimsy - I believe that's a design feature that they flex. Nothing seems cheap. As far as the quality of the workout you get: like any workout you get what you put into it but I assure you, even low intensity use is taxing if done for an extended period of time. You feel it working everything but only after you finish and get up to find muscle groups pleasantly stressed. For me - this is the perfect form of exercise. If anything changes with the quality or durability of this WaterRower, I will update my review. I plan to update this periodically so you know it works. ... show more

  • Happy with it
Color: Lo-Rise
Only with the feet were further apart. Other than that I love the quality the look and feel. It doesn't look crappy standing up on the side of my room. It's easy to pick up and put down for use and storage.

  • Great value, looks good and works well after 5 years
Color: Lo-Rise
Approaching 5 years with this machine and haven’t had a problem with it. Works well, looks great in any room and worth every penny. I noticed it got more expensive since I purchased it in 2021. Highly recommend this for a complete, low impact workout. I purchased the walnut and glad I spent a little extra fo this model. ... show more

  • exceeding expectations
Color: Lo-Rise
I wanted something basic, something well built, and a rower that didn't drag me into an ecosystem of never ending expenses. I don't want a 15 inch touch screen that can't do anything more than regurgitate the content of rowing programs. Doesn't anyone think a simple HDMI cable to occasionally play a movie would be a good idea on those other expensive rowers? This rower is exceptionally well made. It is relatively easy to setup. It's easy to store and move around my home gym. It's smooth and consistent in operation. It looks like well made furniture. Yes, the program/computer that comes with is very basic. But it does EXACTLY what I need it to do and doesn't tie me into monthly fees to be guided in my exercise routine. I bought a very stable but inexpensive phone/tablet holder to mount on the frame and now I can easily watch any content I want while using this rock solid rower and I get the approximate feel of rowing through water but in a design that is simple, durable, and won't suffer from maintenance when computers, magnets, screens, or other mechanisms eventually wear out. Simple is also elegant, and in this case, beautiful. The resistance variability is the only thing I wish was easier to manage. Once filled with water, it's a small ordeal to add or remove water to vary the resistance and thus, impossible during the workout. However, the resistance at max water is significant and it's easy to work your way into a routine that is slower and approximate until you're ready to take it up a level or two or three. It really is the perfect compromise of form, function, and cost. Highly recommended. ... show more
