This turned out to be a great choice, an excellent value and worked perfectly on a 1500 mile trip. I was concerned that it wouldn't mount on '18 Kia Soul factory crossbars because they are curved, not flat. The cargo box has enough flexibility to allow it to be mounted without any problems and worked great! It has two 1" square metal strengtheners running front to back between the mounting areas. The locking device is ingenious and I've had no problems with it or the keys. Both work perfectly and it's very secure. It locks positively and won't lock until both latches are exactly in position, that's all you have to do. Mounting was easy but the simplistic diagrams they call instructions warned to get the non-symmetrical U-Bolts vertical, not canted forwards or back. My crossbars are teardrop shaped and thru trial and error I found that the little dimple worked better one way over the other; forward on the front and rearward on the rear, in this case. It has metal hinges and plastic support arms. It's well made and plenty strong all around. It holds quite a lot and made our trip comfortable for three people and a large cooler. The pre-drilled mounting holes were perfect and it came with a sheet of stickers to cover the unused holes for weather proofing. Nothing got inside. It adds a bit of road noise, not bad. It lowers MPG a bit, but not bad and wind direction matters here. You can feel sidewinds a little more too. After a few miles I just forgot about it, mostly, and drove normally including high speed passing. I can't compare this to any other brand as this is my first but I don't imagine there could be much difference. I would buy this again and I think it's a perfect choice for a Soul or many other small cars.

Very well built, lock system works perfect, traveling over 3000 miles will update later. Install was easy and perfect size for Hyundai Palisades. Looks really good too. UPDATE: trip completed 4,911 miles and this carrier was a solid rock! No problems at all, was like it wasn’t in there. Traveling at 77 + mph for most of the trip perfect. No wind noise, locking system is solid ( keys won’t come out until locked). The side lock is the best, easy access and clam shell cover makes for a tight and secure fit. One good size suitcase, one carry on bag, a duffle bag and jackets all fit well. I did modify the u bolt connectors with some spacers and used lock washers under the thumb screws provided. Carrier never moved an inch. Highly recommend, was perfect for me.

Picture #1 shows my strongest caution. Measure, measure. We installed on a CR-V 2023 Hybrid Touring model vehicle with 19-inch wheels. Garage door clearance leaves about 1-1.5 inch clearance. Picture #3 shows the exterior lock. When first unpacked the lock was stiff. I sprayed WD40 through the lock and the locking mechanisms inside of the box - the result, was smooth operation. Our needs were related to travel, camping, and emergency supplies so a thin profile unit was out of consideration. This unit is as spacious as we needed. Installation tools required; drill, step ladder, patience, and willingness to improvise. The unit comes with predrilled mounting holes for the brackets. Unfortunately for our CR-V, those holes didn't match the Honda-specified rails, so additional rear holes (2) had to be drilled to fit the Honda racks. I would have purchased a Honda car top carrier, however, it was too tall to fit in our garage, this unit clears the open garage door by about 1.5 inches (whew!) - measure, measure. The actual installation is best done with 2 people, one person is constantly back and forth from one side of the vehicle to the other adjusting and tightening mounting brackets. Picture #2 merely illustrates the carrow garage door clearance. Tools for install; 1. Drill with large bit - this is only required if the predrilled mounting holes don't fit with your rack system. 2. Light, the box is black and our garage lighting is all from the ceiling, making it hard to visualize bracket holes, particularly from the driver's side of the vehicle since the opening is only on the passenger side. 3. WD40 - definitely lubricate the locking mechanisms for smoother operation. 4 Short step ladder. I'm short (5'5") and no way can a person my size muscle that unit onto the roof racks without a ladder. This is also a place where an extra pair of hands would be welcome - the unit isn't too heavy, but it's bulky and there are no hand grips. First driving experience. We drove at city speeds (30-40 mph) and the unit is quiet, so quiet you forget that it's there. This brings me to my last bit of advice, No car washes, and watch out for height warnings on-ramp garages and other low clearance drive-thorughs including your garage. Measure, Measure. Hope this is helpful. I would recommend this unit to a friend.
