  • 20tb drives that are cheap and work.
Capacity: 20TB Style: SATA HDD
I highly recommend these drives for their exceptional value. The read and write speed is impressive for renewed product, reaching 248 MBs read per drive 241 MBs per drive. I have installed as a RAID 0 to an external hard disk drive (Cenmate) and am currently using it as a DAS. I will provide a detailed review in a month to assess its ongoing performance. • Great balance of price and reliability for custom DAS and NAS setups; no sacrifice in quality!
The product was sold as a fully-refurbished item by ServerPartDeals and fulfilled by Amazon. I'm usually not a fan of refurbished items, especially IT hardware, but this was an amazing deal I couldn't pass up at $94 each for 14TiB drives. The specs on the drives are 7200 RPM SATA-III CMR drives with no cache. They are designed for internal use, but have been performing well for both DAS and NAS configurations for me, and I'd highly recommend them. Given the price point and real-world performance, they're a better option for large arrays and cheaper to replace than more expensive or more ruggedized drives. There are bigger drives, but the price-per-tibibyte of these drives was almost too good to be true. A pack of 10 arrived extremely well-packaged in specially-designed protective top and bottom slotted foam to keep them from banging together in transit. Each was individually wrapped in in a sealed static-free bag. They slid into a high-quality 10-bay external DAS enclosure without issues, and when kept in high-power mode have had no problems with unexpected offlining or bad sectors. The one caveat to be aware of is that all S.M.A.R.T. data is erased by Water Panther as part of their remanufacturing process, so you may want to take the SMART data with a grain of salt. For that reason, I deliberately skipped a days-long sector-by-sector read/write burn-in test because any bad sectors have presumably already been handled by the remaufacturing process, and simply ran a quick conveyance test and enabled bad sector monitoring so I can rely on any bad sector counts, which remain at zero on all drives even under many weeks of heavy use by aggressive RAID systems. They have actually performed better with UnRAID and TrueNAS than a number of Seagate IronWolf drives with 512MB of on-disk cache that were *designed* for NAS. Even with enclosures packed full and running enterprise workloads, the drive temperatures of the disks in the enclosure almost never rise above a 50 ℃ threshold, often averaging as little as 30 ℃, leaving plenty of room for margin. If you're looking to populate a NAS or DAS system, and have a decent enclosure with good airflow and a backplane that can handle the power requirements and sustained throughput of a large number of drives, I **highly** recommend the Water Panther Eco drives as a cost-effective alternative to Seagate IronWolf or Western Digital Red drives, or even Water Panther's own Arsenal line. You can't beat the price, the performance is solid, and the sustained throughput is just as good as that of higher-end drives. Personally recommended! ... show more

  • First and Last refurbished HDD I will buy
Capacity: 16TB Style: SATA HDD
16TB started off good but two weeks later data error (cyclic redundancy check) and will not itemize. No longer usable. First and last refurbished HDD I will buy.

  • I was hoping this was a good deal.....and my second try I got it!
I was hoping this was a good deal. I purchased3 of the 22 TB hard drives for the purpose of expanding my storage in my PC. I got all three drive quickly and well packed. Got all three drives setup and ready to use in my PC. After one day of use, one hard drive failed completely. I contacted Amazone to get a replacement for the bad drive and they tried to direct me to the "acutal" seller. If Amazon sells these, they should support replacements for them.. So my only option was to return the bad drive for a refund. Now, it is wait and see if the two hard drives left keep working. I have other Water Panther HDD and they are still working wonderful. So it looks like I got a dud with the one that failed. Once I get my refund, I will purchase a different 22 TB HDD from a different listing. I guess you do get what you pay for, I tried to save, now I have the hassle of a return. Many Thanks Update, I did purchase this item again, and now it is a rockstar Hard Drive. Been in operation for many months now and is solid. I guess you get some bad drives from time to time with the refurbs. I recommend this drive and I have updated my rating. Many Thanks! ... show more

  • Packages well; low hours and checked clean
Capacity: 16TB Style: SATA HDD
I am always weary about ordering drives; as you never know how it is packaged. This was in a separate box with air packaging that held it in place. Appears to be rebranded seagate; which is fine. Using it to backup media. Tested sectors with hdscan and came up clean.
