It worked as advertised.....would have been better to have an 8A charging level since it's just a Level 1 variable output charger and since all the Level1/2 variable output chargers have that increment. The most likely application of a variable output EV charger is for slow charging an EV with off grid solar and wind replenished battery bank with a pure sine wave inverter. The cable to the car was not the length as advertised. It says 19 feet but is barely 10 feet....that was shockingly inaccurate. I might have considered keeping it if the cable were tru ly 19 feet. My precious charger stopped working after 2 months so I bought this one. So far it works great! First of all, the 27.8FT cable is super useful. The media could not be loaded. There is no 240V socket in my garage and I'm looking for a 110V plug-charger. Voltfanty met my expectations, easy to install and use. It's pretty cool to check the charging status on the display screen, select charging-Amp and set charging-time. Great product.

The media could not be loaded. The charger (Level 1, 16A, 120V) didn't work for me (supposedly a defective unit). Plugging it into the wall lit the power LED. Plugging it into the car would make the charge LED blink, but the car (Tesla) complained about no power. Amazon tech support was not helpful. Vendor was able to diagnose and determine that it is a faulty unit. They sent out a new charger (not sure if it will be the same model) for replacement. They said I could "dispose" of this one. I'm sure if you are not inclined to go through the trouble you could simply return it to Amazon for an exchange. But, having the broken charger at my disposal (pun intended) I took the liberty to open it up. Both the wall-side and car-side cables are AWG 14. I believe that is the minimum allowed for 16A. On the inside the charger looks very clean and well designed. There are a couple things that could be improved. For example, having that pin-header (some sort of debugging or programming interface) right where the AC cord enters the housing doesn't look like a good idea. Interestingly, aside from ground, neutral and hot wires there is only one single other wire going to the handle. That seems to be sufficient to communicate to the car the max allowed ampacity, and for the gar to signal back that it is plugged in correctly and charging can start. Unfortunately, the handle can't be completely disassembled, it appears the front (black part) is glued into the back (white part), and with that you can't get to any circuitry in the handle (which is probably what would have needed fixing). If you are surprised about the lack of any power electronics (besides the two relays), then you have to realize that what is commonly called a EV charger isn't really much of a charger. It is simply a safety device that only turns on electricity once it is plugged into a car. It can also signal to the car the max current the car is allowed to draw. Additionally, it has a GFCI function (shut off electricity if any current goes where it should not). Any functionality past that is optional and is usually called "smart", i.e. the charger may be able to measure voltage and current and share that information with you through an app or similar. What the charger does not do is regulate the charging. That is the job of the car (and the actual charger, which is built into your car). For now, giving 4 stars for the good customer service, despite of having gotten a DUD. If the replacement doesn't work right, then I'll come back and ding some more stars. ... show more
