Unpacked the unit, read the paper work and assembled the intake filter and connected hoses. All went together well, but threads on air filter were kinda rough, added a VERY thin coat of light Yamaha lube and it smoothed out and all tightened down nice. Tested it out on two of my F150 20" tires aired down below 20#, the unit was able to air them up to over 40# both in less than 2.5 minutes. The automatic feature is great as even though the unit is only 33% duty cycle, it shuts down automatically unless its coming up to pressure, or actually pumping air in to a tire. I can't see the duty cycle being an issue with this nice feature and given how I will primarily use it. I should be able to top up all 4 20" tires coming off the beach in about 20 - 25 minutes including setup and pack up and with only about 15 minutes run time on the motor. Unit is quiet and seem very well built, time will tell how it holds up. The chuck assemble clamp locks down on the valve stem nice and with the handle having an air down / release button its quick to use to air the tires down too. Unit was only warm to touch after the first 2.5 minutes for the first tire. But even after the cool down moving to the second tire which included time for the air down of that tire, after the next 2.5 minute on cycle the head was too hot to touch. So I full expect it to be very hot after all 4 tires. But with the auto shut off, the overheat and over pressure safety shut-offs I cant see the heat being an issue, but again time will tell how the unit handles that heat. The case and accessories seem good, looking forward to making use of it coming off the beach. Only concern after using it would be the durability of the chuck assembly, seems like its maybe a step down lighter in duty than the actual pump assembly itself. Will see how it holds up after practical use and a couple of drops (accidental) to the pavement. Even though the $180 I paid for it is more than I wanted to invest, this unit seems like the best option for quick air up and compact size / low weight. If I had to complain about anything, I'd say it would be more convenient to not have to pop the hood and connect to battery, I can see this being a PIA in bad weather. A nice option would be to hard wire some connections to battery that had exterior accessible jacks on the vehicle; then be able to replace the battery clamps with mathings plugs to mate to jacks. If I was younger I'd consider doing a custom wiring job myself. Overall seems like a great job anyway ViAIR !!!

Quality and convenience - Love it

I've already used this a few times and I love this thing. I have a full size compressor that I hated dragging out to put air in tires ( I bought the full size air compressor for nail guns and blowing out the pool lines). In the past few years I have bought less expensive mini air compressors for my tires and they have always been horrible, but they were also in the 50 dollar price range. Tires, especially in the winter need to be topped off and unfortunately my luck with nails in my tires has been horrible, ( I also travel with my own plug kit because of this) in the past year I've had to put a plug in both my wife and one of my tires. I keep it in my truck at all times and the piece of mind alone is worth it. Anyway to get to the point, I bought this one because of the quality, the standard quick connect fittings and most importantly, the trigger to start and stop the air on the fill side, meaning the air gun & gauge. This feature should be on all models if you ask me, yes it is worth it but missing from most travel compressors. So the quick rundown: it works really fast, it's not crazy loud, and the air hose reaches all the tires on my truck, so absolutely no complaints. The bag is sturdy and I see it lasting a long time, very easy to use and I hope it lasts forever. I love it. For anyone who cares, I also travel with a Noco boost, in case the battery should ever die on me, and I keep a quick connect attached to by battery at all times, so I don't have to use the alligator clips for the boost. (NOCO GBC009 Boost 18.5-Inch SAE Adapter Extension Cable For GB20/GB40/GB50 NOCO Boost UltraSafe Lithium Jump Starters) And then I bought an SAE cord, cut it , then I cut the cord to the alligator clip on the compressor and spliced in the SAE cord, also switched out the fuse to match the one on the compressor. So now when I need the compressor I just plug it into the quick connect instead of the alligator clips. I highly recommend this, especially if your battery, like mine ,is buried and you can't easily get to the terminals. - I am all about making life easier, especially if you are broken down on the side of the road.

Perfect For My Jeep

I love this air compressor. The product I received is not exactly what was described. I contacted Viair, and found that I had received a newer model than described with the following differences: 1. The air hose is black, and an updated version. Very happy with this. 2. The gun is a 160psi gun, NOT 200psi. This change was made because 200psi is overkill for most people. I prefer the 160psi for my use, the dial is easier to read. I love it. I have a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. This is a perfect compressor for my needs. It is extremely easy to set up and light to carry. The air hose has more than enough length, I can get to my spare without any pulling or stretching. The compressor is quiet and quick. Using the release valve in the gun, I deflated a tire to 20psi (very quickly, great valve). I then inflated it to 36psi in less than a minute. The compressor worked beautifully. It will automatically shut off if the trigger on the gun is not depressed for a few seconds, and start again when the trigger is depressed. This compressor comes with the filter assembly ready to attach. It is easy to put on, contains a 2 part filter already, and has two spare filter sets in a separate bag. The bag is extremely nice! Very rugged, and well balanced. The compressor seems very secure in the bag, and the hose fits perfectly up front. There are two small side pockets, one with a flap and one with velcro. There is no separate pocket for the gun, though. I wish they had included this. I will find a pouch to protect the dial. As important as all of the above: Viair customer service is amazing! The rep I spoke with was very friendly and knew absolutely everything about the product. She answered all my questions quickly and was a joy to speak with. I definitely recommend this compressor.

Yes, this thing was made in China but what are we going to do, they all are. I have used this unit several times since I got it and it rides in my SUV everywhere. You can fill up truck tires and smaller items like bicycle tubes just fine. This model has auto shut off so you can use it by only squeezing the triggle, you don't have to keep turning the unit on and off. I like this because I can have the trigger part far away from the pump where the on off swicth is. The unit must be connect to a car battery to work. FYI> I contacted the company here in the USA and they said you "can't" make it run from a transformer if you want to rig it to work from a home recepticle. They also answered a number of other questions, were quick to reply to my email and seemed customer service oriented. I would recommend buying from this manufacturer. The unit seems of very good and solid quality. The hose disconnects from the trigger and from the pump so if you want to change the components out, you could. The triggle with the guage on it is quite nice and heavy and better than I thought it would be. The only complaints I have with it is, I wish I didn't have to have it attached to the car for operation. It would be great if I could plug it in to a wall receptical because it is so handy, quick and easy to use. I also have never been a fan of the type of valve that is used in this unit to attach it to a valve stem. There are only so many ways to do it but trying to hold the valve tightly enough on a stem while using a great deal of strength to flip the switch closed is something that has left me wanting since I was a kid trying to pump up my BMX tire. It works great, I just like the service station type valve better. Maybe it could be changed out later I guess. Overall good product, highly recommended.

Awesome Compressor for Remote Locations

I bought this to inflate a motor grader tire on my A-W 88H, and it worked flawlessly. I didn't time it,but maybe 15 or 20 minutes, to bring it from 20 up to 30 PSI (for transport). Also, the tire was about 1/3 buried .. right rear, so was struggling to free itself while raising out of being imprisoned. Indeed, it's a bit pricey, but they are the largest tires I have on any on my equipment here, so I am confident that this compressor will handle every thing else that might need some air while in a remote location. The hose got kinda warm, and the compressor outlet got too hot to touch, but the handle was fine, and the compressor itself was OK to touch, as well as the motor, this with ambient being about 90*f yesterday. Awesome little machine, and first class tote. Only complaint is the length of the gauge/trigger assembly was kinda short, but then, this is a very tall tire, and the valve stem was at 1 o'clock. So if you have tractors or trucks, I do recommend this compressor .. it should handle just about anything you can through at it. I should mention, that I used a for powerJump-N-Carry JNC660 1700 Peak Amp 12V Jump Starter rather than the grader's battery .. also highly recommended. The compressor was 100% un-starved for power. Super great product. If you are a four Wheeler off roader then you need to buy this immediately if not sooner. Gets my tires aired back up fast after I've needed to lower down the PSI in each tire. Has the power and functionality to get to pumping quick! Just open the hood, hook it up and you're gonna have full tire pressure quick. Fully recommend this and it has worked great since I've owned it. Still going strong in the durability and design looks like it will keep it going strong for many years. I'll never be stuck with low tire pressure or a flat again and I run 35s on 18 inch rims. Highly highly recommend buying this. It stays with my truck as a critical item and the inflation rate is better than most gas station air pumps

Viair is top of the line as far as I’m concerned. It is well built and constructed with quality components. This is my second unit. I also have one for my RV. I tried this unit out today and I am dutifully impressed. The gauge is spot on accurate so no need to double check the pressure with a small handheld gauge. It seems to be quieter than my older unit and it is also smaller and lighter. This 400P Automatic is the way to go because it has a built-in PSI regulator that turns the unit off when it is not being used. Meaning it doesn’t run continuously when turned on. Big big upgrade from the regular 400P and I highly recommend this version. I think it is definitely worth the extra cost. This compressor is going to be kept in my Jeep for off-road adventures. Super happy with this upgrade.

Exactly what I needed

I love this thing. I wanted a portable that could quickly and conveniently air up the four tires on my Jeep and the two tires on my trailer from 10-35 psi without trouble. After looking around at other models and manufacturers, I decided this was the one for me to try. After two successful trips on the sand, I am feeling really good about this decision. Quick The 400P is rated up to 2.3 CFM when the tire is completely empty. Between 10-40 psi, the rating is in the range 2-1.75 CFM. I found this was enough to inflate my 245/70R16 (30-inch diameter) tires in a little over one minute. This means I can air up all six of my tires in less than 7 minutes of compressor time. Most importantly, this is quick enough to avoid running up against the 33% duty cycle of the compressor which means I won't risk burning it out or sitting around 40 minutes waiting for it to cool off. If this is still too risky for you, try the lower flow rate 450P with the 100% duty cycle. Convenient This model has an automatic shutoff that cuts power when the chamber pressure gets too high. When you release the trigger on the inflator gun (to check the static pressure or move to another tire), the compressor shuts itself off. Need more air? Pull the trigger to open the valve and the compressor starts back up. Worlds better than running back and forth to the compressor to flip the power switch every time. Really cannot beat this feature. For me and my needs, this compressor does exactly I want it to do. Very pleased. It is a little expensive, but worth it.
