  • Excellent Compressor
Style: Compressor Only
I bought this compressor because I wanted to get into auto painting and my 5.5 CFM Lowes compressor could not cut it. I did my research and compared this compressor to locally available compressors and other compressors at a similar price point around the web, but nothing else compared in price/performance ratio. I purchased from Amazon and the free delivery (including lift-gate and basic placement service) made this an even better deal than the other competitors whom charge extra for unloading off the truck (lift-gate). When you receive this compressor, what you will need is ~2 pints of compressor oil lubricant (I bought synthetic for $6/pint at Lowes locally) and your own power cable and plug to wire into the compressor (needs 230V/single phase/60Hz., using the black/red/green wires (hot/hot/ground) [white-common is unused]). While on the power subject, another reviewer recommended using 6AWG wiring and 60AMP plug/receptacle/breakers... THIS IS NOT NEEDED. Unfortunately, I took this bad advice and wired a 14-60R connector into my garage for this compressor prior to receipt using 6/3+10AWG ground cable and purchased the plug and receptacle online for >$100 combined. Too bad my compressor has never used over 40 Amps even during spikes so far... So, my recommendation is be safe and wire it for 40 or 50 AMPs using readily available parts at the big box stores. The crimp connectors and wiring used by Ingersoll Rand in the wiring box appear to be 10AWG stranded wire and you will need two crimp plugs (yellow 12-10AWG style) and one crimp fork connector (also yellow 12-10AWG style) for your three power connections. Also, one intake air filter is included, but an air regulator is not included. Optional (but you really should get these too): As stated in other reviews, the drain is difficult to access. I removed the entire drain plug and replaced it with an elbow, extension and ball valve. This is what I did starting from the removed drain plug: [1/4 Male ID - 1/4 Male ID] <-> [1/4 Female ID - 3/8 Male ID] <-> [3/8 Female ID - 3/8 Female ID Elbow] <-> [12" long black pipe 3/8 Male ID - 3/8 Male ID extension] <-> [3/8 Female ID - 3/8 Female ID ball valve]. Also, I bought an Ingersoll Rand Combination Air System Accessories - 1/2in., Filter, Regulator, Model# P39344600 and so far it is performing great. I have tested the compressor with my IWATA LPH400 HVLP paint gun while painting and it quickly compresses the air back to the cutoff point (125psi). Once the compressor kicks on, the tank will still build pressure. So at 100% air consumption load (for me) the compressor will still refill and turn back off and I never have to let off the trigger. I have read some reviews about people thinking this compressor could not handle automotive painting, but if it was dedicated to that purpose, it could handle it with ease. I am using this compressor non-commercially, but I bet this compressor could support a small shop. In conclusion, I am very happy with this purchase. Also, the air outlet is 1/2 Female NPT if anyone needed to know that. I used a brass nipple from this outlet into my regulator/filter and then flexible hose from there and converted to 1/4NPT (3/8 hose) the rest of the way out. ... show more

  • Outstanding; just make sure you have it set up right
Style: Compressor Only
Bought this from Amazon for the cheapest price on the web, particularly when you factor in the free shipping. Mine was packed well and sat on a pallet. It is very heavy, so make sure you have it in position before taking it off the pallet. The unit is quiet, much quieter than the standard small 110v compressors you see at Sears/HD/Lowes. There's only a light hum if you close the garage door. It is also extremely efficient - fills rapidly and can run continuously on the Ingersoll Rand all season lubricant. Provides plenty of power. Very simple and straightforward design - which should make it more durable and reliable in the long run. IR tech support is excellent and these are amongst the best compressors you can buy. Basically, they allow you to focus on the job, not on setup and tool management. A few things to note when buying this in case you don't have experience with this type of product. 1. You will need an air regulator to regulate pressure out to the tools. Unlike the smaller models at Home Improvement stores, this does not have a built-in regulator - just a gauge measuring tank pressure. You may also want to consider a lubricator. IR makes them and Amazon/Northern Tool have the lowest prices I could find. 2. While the unit is rated at 30 AMPs, it actually spikes much higher at startup. It would keep shutting off when we had it on a 30 Amp breaker. Talked to IR tech support (who were very helpful). They recommend the unit be hard-wired (not a plug) and that it be on a 60 Amp circuit. This meant rewiring (EXPENSIVE) using 6 gauge copper (EXPENSIVE), a new breaker and a hardwired connection with a disconnect. Could you get away with less ? Perhaps. But I wanted the warranty protection, wanted IR's recommended settings in case something went wrong and wanted to be up to code. 3. The manual drain valve at the bottom is a PAIN to get at. Either mount the unit high enough to reach easily or get something that allows you to drain it without having to crawl around on the floor with a pair of needle-nose pliers. (Ask me how I know...) 4. The 1/2" NPT outlet is nice, but be aware the local home improvement stores may not carry 1/2" fittings. I had to get my regulator, connectors and hose online. 5. The manual recommends IR All-Season lubricant if you want continuous duty. Overall, I'm very very happy with this purchase. ... show more

  • Great Product
Style: Compressor Only
I finally bit the bullet and got a bigger air compressor after the 25 gallon one died. What a difference. I’ve actually left the dead on connected in the air lines, so I effectively now have 85 gallons. This new compressor has to fill more than 3 times the volume as the old one, in less than half the time. What a difference, I no longer have to wait fo the tank to fill itself for 3 minutes before using the tools again. Word of caution. It doesn’t come with the following, oil, fitting, air pressure regulator/filter or electrical cable. To me, this is an advantage. I bought what I wanted to make it work how I wanted. I changed the drain fitting and added an extension to drain the compressor conveniently. I bought foot pads isolators, I got the oil/air filter package, and bought an electrical cable to the length I needed. Finally, I bought a good quality regulator fo my application. Update: I am so glad I got the extended warranty from Amazon. The air compressor pump failed just about 12.5 months after installation. I bought it late June of 2020, but it took a good 3 weeks to get it delivered. So technically, it was more like 13.5 months after date of purchase. I’ve been told I need a valve replacement kit - not cheap at $268, which is basically half the cost of a new pump. I also bought the IR start up kit that includes the oil and air filter. This also says that it extends the warranty… however, I didn’t realize that this only applied to six other models that are all two stage compressors… frankly, a piston is a piston… not sure why this did not apply to the single stage model as well. Unless these single stage pumps do not have the reliability of the two stage design. So this becomes a cost liability scenario for IR. So while the oil and filter are good, I could have gotten compressor oil at a much reduced price. I still Ike the pump, but if it’s going to fail every year, it’s not worth it. ... show more

  • Great unit, things you should know!!
Style: Compressor Only
I bought this compressor to do a boat renovation, lots of sanding and painting. There are several things you should know before you buy this unit!! Not bad just a lack of info about connections and startup. First of all this unit does NOT run on 30amp service as stated. IR wants it hard wired to a 60amp dual pole breaker!! Secondly, they do not tell you until after you receive the unit that they will double your pump warranty if you use the Ingersoll Rand Synthetic Lubricant if you purchase w/ the compressor. You may buy it separately and place a sticker from the startup kit on your pump also. The other reviews were very helpful in the wiring and plumbing dept. You will definitely want to reroute the drain before bolting it down and you will need to buy a regulator and some 1/2" plumbing to get to your hose connection. I used brass parts. I will add to this review once I finally have the system prepped and ready to use. I anticipate that it will far surpass my needs and be a great purchase. ... show more

  • This compressor restored my car
Style: Compressor Only
I restored a pony car in my garage. I bought this air compressor because it appeared to have enough CFM to run an HVLP paint gun. Turns out, it sure did. I run all kinds of air tools with it. The only thing this wouldn't run is a cheap DA sander. And I blame the sander. It's been reliable and strong for three years. It was more expensive than other compressors I was considerring, but I'm so glad I got this one. Very recommended! ... show more

  • Purchased four months ago
Style: Compressor Only
I purchased this air compressor from Amazon about 4 months ago. So far it has run flawlessly. It runs relatively quiet for its size and power, although no reciprocating air compressor is really what anyone would call quiet. This unit re pressurizes very quickly under most loads. I heartily recommend this unit for a heavy home user or small shop. ... show more

  • Great Compressor
Style: Compressor Only
I just finished hooking up this compressor and let me tell you it is quiet. I read all kinds of reviews on upright 60 gal compressors and this one came in as a good review so I decided to break down and replace my old portable 30 gal compressor. Now for the business end of the review. The purchase and shipping. The purchase was smooth as can be. Thanks Amazon. The shipping on the other hand was not the fastest or informative. The order was placed on June 17th the tracking info said delivery would be June 25, but that came and went with tracking saying in transit. I heard from the carrier about June 28th or 29th and we set a date of delivery for July 3rd. on the morning of July 3rd the carrier called and said that the truck broke down and we would have to wait until Monday (Hmm Holiday weekend)? I was busy that week so I had to wait for them on another weekend. ... show more
