  • DEWALT Store: Portable Air Compressor/Tire Inflator, Automatic Shut Off, 20V MAX/12VDC/AC, LED Light
This product is DeWALT’s portable air compressor/tire inflator (DeWALT Model Number DCC020IB). This is one of DeWALT’s line of 20V MAX tools and is designed to run on the DeWALT 20V MAX line of batteries. That said, this tool can also run on the DeWALT FlexVolt line of batteries. The tool also comes with a 12V power cord so that the tool may be powered though a vehicle’s 12V power port. As an option, the user may purchase separately the DeWALT N557514 Inflator Power Supply (DeWALT Model Number DCC020IB; ASIN: B07MLJY3Y5). This accessory will allow the user to power the tool directly from a 110V AC power outlet. This tool is sold as a “Bare Tool” which means that the tool comes alone in a box without a battery, battery charger, or other optional accessories. This tool does come equipped with the 12VDC power cord mentioned above, stored in a special compartment with a door that latches closed on the left side of the tool. It also comes with a ball needle, Presta valve adapter, and a high pressure tapered nozzle that are snapped into retainers on the right side of the tool. Additionally, the tool has a built-in high-pressure inflation hose with threaded a chuck attached to the left side of the tool. It also has a low-pressure/high volume inflation hose that is stored on the right side of the tool. This hose must be attached to the appropriate port when its use is needed. In addition to the inflator capabilities of the tool, it also has a built-in LED light for use in tire inflation duties, if needed. The tool is equipped with a large carry handle for carrying the tool to where it is needed. This tool is equipped with a high-pressure air compressor that has with the capability to fill items that require high-pressure air such as pneumatic tires (auto, truck, trailer, bicycle, utility), sports balls, or well pressure tanks. The tool also has a low-pressure/high volume air pump with the capability to fill items such as air mattresses, inflatable tents, and children’s inflatable toy structures. The low-pressure/high volume air pump has the ability to both inflate and to deflate these items. The product has a control panel on the front of the tool where the user can select the air service that is needed, low-pressure or high-pressure. When the high-pressure service is selected, the user may select the pressure that tires and other high-pressure items are to be filled to. The pressure is displayed digitally and the selected pressure may be adjusted in 0.5PSI increments. The high-pressure service has an auto shut-off feature where the compressor will automatically shut-off when the set pressure is reached. This product’s Amazon page cites the noise produced by this tool to be 95dB. Personally, I did not think it was nearly that loud and I think it is much quieter than most other tire inflators I have seen and used. I waited quite a while before ordering this tool. Finally, it went on sale and I decided to go for it. I like the tool very much. It is very versatile and it works well to top up my tires to the desired pressure. I have used it with both the DeWALT 20V MAX batteries and the DeWALT FlexVolt batteries. I like that the tool has rubber feet so that it does not move around from the vibrations while a tire is being inflated. One thing I noted is that the high-pressure hose has a threaded chuck installed. I personally prefer to use the flip-lever or the lock-lever (also called a clamp-lever) type of chuck for filling tires. So, I installed a screw-on clamp-lever chuck (see ASIN: B0DM9D61TY) so that I can place or remove the chuck from the tire valve very quickly with little to no air loss. Problem solved. Also, I chose to acquire a case for this tool to have a safe place to store the tool, the batteries, and any additional accessories that I chose to add. The case has polyethylene foam that has been exactly cut to accept the tool, 20V MAX and/or FlexVolt batteries, and space is provided for the 110V AC adapter, should one decide to purchase that accessory. The case is available on Amazon (ASIN: B0DQ75VVMR) and it is made by Hosocase. Everything fits very well into the case, it is well sealed (IP67), and everything is safe from damage. I very much like this tool and I really like it in this setup. ... show more

  • Sometimes, Inflation is a Good Thing! (Great Tool!)
I convinced our small nonprofit to buy this inflator a couple of years ago and I got a lot of pushback over the price (we paid $130). Well, the other night, our Facilities Manager (an old friend) was using it on our company truck's tires. He was bent over this inflator for a full minute, his head bobbing around. I was watching from the darkness a few feet away, talking to another colleague, when I heard the FM say: "Wow." So I call out to him: "Something wrong?" "No," he said. "Actually, something's very RIGHT for a change. I'm just SO IMPRESSED with this tool! The design is beautiful… especially this display and minimalist buttons and this knob, see? …it's SUPER-easy to use… even has a light for when it's dark like this… Y'know, I hate to admit it, but you were right when you said it'd be worth it to pay extra for this thing instead of that cheapie one I was pushing for." Aaaannnd… there you have it, Folks. One of the most stubbornly opinionated guys I've ever had the genuine pleasure of working with recommends this. Look… if HE likes it -- and he's picky about all kinds of mechanical stuff -- then you will also like it. QED. DW really does put a lot of thought into how they design things and I'm betting they took in a lot of feedback to end up with something so ideal for use in both normal and adverse conditions… Remember: the moment you need to use this, it's very likely because the SHTF and you urgently need to blow something up (you fellas can read that however you like, oorah). Just reach for the easy-to-find "yellow thing" in the back of your vehicle and: hit the huge power button to turn it on (or the "light" button if it's dark); take a quick squint at the big, bright, super-understandable display that tells you how badly you let your tire get low; and spin the dial to set your target pressure. Then, just hit the "Play" button… (they really did make it look like a music "play" button… clever). Starting from the shape, like a little old-school lunchbox, it's got all the bells and whistles: there's a collection of different tips for inflating all kinds of things, from inflatable boats/rafts to {NSFW} dolls (as well as for DEFLATING things, like your camping mattress). They're all right there, firmly clipped to the end. And there's a little door on the other end for the power cord, in case you need to run it in your house or RV. The main air hose is sturdy and thick and it has a standard tip for car tires/etc that screws on really easily. When you take it off, it let's a tiny bit of air out as it releases, but don't worry: the inflator automagically inflates the tire juuuust a bit extra so the escaping air won't be a problem. When you stow the hose, it wraps around the unit and clips to itself very elegantly. The top handle makes this lightweight unit easy to carry and it contains the bright LED worklight (Ladies, take note: if you're stuck by the side of the road in a rainstorm with a low/flat tire, this is a gret tool). Last but not least, the unit is extremely portable (I recommend getting the soft-shell case) and powered by DeWalt's 20V batteries. So, it shares the same power source as all of (y)our DeWalt power tools and we can always pop one of those batteries in when necessary. When something is this good at what it's for, I just feel an urge to compliment the people who made it and encourage folks to get one so others can see what American ingenuity can produce. It might be made in China, but I'm pretty sure a team of Murrikins figgered it out and drew it all up. AI will not replace us if we keep on making cool gear like this. OK, maybe AI could make it 30% lighter and 3D print it, but I rest my case. Happy trails, y'all. ... show more
